Grand Aleutian Hotel, Dutch Harbor

Dutch Harbor is not exactly on the way to anywhere (I was there for the Whiskered Auklets). The hotel has adequate rooms, fair to good service outside the dining room. But the FOOD!! I've done a lot of fine dining over the last 40 years including New York, New Orleans, Dallas and Europe and the food in the main dining room at The Grand Aleutian is among the best I've ever had anywhere. The service is friendly and attentive without being overdone. Also a truly great breakfast.

Views from the room are pretty, watery, birdy. Lobby is dramatic and I liked it in the morning for coffee and reading the paper. In the room, they were stingy with towels and washcloths, and we had to pester staff in January for more linens. But the big deal here is the FOOD. It is generous, beautiful, fresh, and delicious. Dining room service is top notch. I will always remember the staff in the restuarant here. And the fabulous cuisine, prepared with care and knowledge.

Oh my goodness the food was top notch. Better than some high end places in D.C. I go bak in a heartbeat.
