Great place - Been going for nearly 30 years
By Mary, 2/11/12
This is an amazing place for the entire family. Our family & many of our friends have been going the same time each year while our families were growing up. The kids liked it better than Disney World. The owners are delightful, warm & friendly. Food tasty and rooms comfortable & clean. Can't say enough good things about it. Now our kids are grown and we go back for the warm feeling we get as soon as we pull up to the Inn. Should be rated more than 2 stars as a general hotel rating.

A piece of homespun and a very good deal
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/11/11
The grounds are historic and very well presented. The location to other sites like downtown, hiking, golf courses is very convenient. The cost is quite reasonable especially since the rates include 2 daily meals. The food choices were limited but tasty for the most part. The fitness center needs a thorough cleaning and the investment in a few pieces of equipment would improve amenities. The staff is absolutely the most pleasant I have ever encountered!

Incredible!
By Angeliki, 6/3/10
I am in love with the Thompson House. I’ve just returned from my 3rd trip there. Eric and Debbie are immensely pleasant; if you have any questions, they are more than helpful. The atmosphere is laid back and very relaxing (especially when you’re used to the hustle and bustle of NYC). During the spring/summer seasons, they provide evening entertainment; I really do get a kick out of it because it truly is enjoyable! The area and the rooms are very charming; if you paid for the meal plan, you will not be let down. I work in Manhattan and it’s hard to come across a good cup of coffee and a meal that doesn’t taste as if it was made the day before; at the Thompson House, your meals are fresh, home cooked and absolutely delicious. If you want to burn some calories, the town is not far and in walking distance. Now, I’m 32 years old and grew up with arcades and games; I was surprised to find their game room which has pinball, ping pong, foosball, a pool table, chess tables and more. Let’s talk about their pool – it ranges from 3 feet to 8 feet and is quiet large and clean! Let’s be honest, it’s nice not to find dead insects in a pool. If you enjoy the country scenery, Windham, NY is the place to be; if you want a great place to stay, then head over to the “Thompson House” :)

Our Home away from Home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/5/08
We've been going to the Thompson House every summer for more than 10 years, sometimes for two weeks or more at a time - obviously, we love it! The owners/staff could not be more welcoming and attentive - it's almost like visiting family on that annual visit. The rooms are comfortable, spotless and have beautiful views, especially those overlooking the adjacent golf course. The meals (breakfast and dinner) are delicious and plentiful - there are several selections at each meal, so there is something for everyone - sometimes the toughest thing is choosing which great meal to have - and the desserts at dinner are fabulous. If you really need to eat after that big breakfast, for lunch there is the very reasonable coffee shop on the grounds, or there are many restaurants in the area. There are many games and activities each day, but no pressure - lazing the day away by the pool or under the pines (where there really is a breeze all the time) is a perfectly wonderful way to relax. There are often "field trips" to points of interest in the area, and the house bus goes into town at least twice a week. There are loads of things to do in the immediate area - hiking, biking, golf, mini-golf, shopping, movies, a winery - to name just a few of the things that we enjoy. The Thompson House also provides varied entertainment every night - from bingo, to horse racing, to magicians, to bands - or you can find your own entertainment. It is our hope and intention to continue to visit our friends at the Thompson House for many more summers to come. - K&T M.

It is our most anticipated vacation! We are already looking forward to next year!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/8/07
My husband's family has been going to The Thompson House for many years with ours being the third generation to enjoy this wonderful place. Nestled in the beautiful Catskills the trip up Rt. 23 is always a calming experience. We use our yearly trek to the Thompson House as a family reunion and a time to re-connect with friends. Our family is now spread from NC to Connecticut- with a few in between- our week at Thompson house gives us the perfect setting to meet in one place. In addition to family,we have established friendships with other guests, who return year after year during the same week. The personal service and incredible comfort of the Thompson House makes the week we spend in Windam my favorite. As a Mom, nothing beats having breakfast and dinner taken care of and maid service every day!!The rooms are beautifully appointed and immaculate. The food was fantastic-with tasty adult offerings and a children's menu. (Did I mention the dessert tray?) There are planned activities for both children and adults through out each day,you can become as involved as you choose-or just relax! The safe,self- contained grounds are perfect for families, with plenty to do. The grounds are beautifully designed and maintained, creating a relaxing atmosphere. We take other vacations, but none equal the anticipation (by adults and children alike!), and satisfaction of our week in Windham. We are hoping to visit again this winter to enjoy Windham Mountain. I highly recommend a visit to Thompson House-I'm sure you'll be hooked!

A wonderful place to get away
By WilliamD, 7/26/07
Going to the Thompson House each summer was an integral part of my childhood and my relationship with my parents and grandparents, who frequently took me there when I was young. While families change and new generations take over, the one thing that hasn't changed is the wonderful hospitality that has existed at the Thompson House since my family first started going there over 60 years ago. For the ultimate laid back, relaxing vacation with the family who seeks to find the glorious charm of a bygone era, I highly recommend it. The memories we have and share with our family and friends are endless.

same time next year!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/16/07
My family started vacationing at the Thompson House in 1939! My mother has wonderful memories of all her vacations here. We still go every year - the same week and we meet our dearest friends from New Jersey, Long Island, Manhattan, Albany and different parts of the area. Our family and friends enjoy getting together every summer. The Thompson House has wonderful food and the rooms are immaculate! The pool is our place where we gather to sit and enjoy all the stories from the past year. The children always have a grand time with all the other children. If it rains, we still have a good time. We play shuffleboard or cards in the game room. Or there's always shopping! Or a movie and the boys like going to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The entertainment at night is fun - bingo and other games or dances. The Thompson House is a family hotel and we love our time there!!! We give it a "10".

Five Generations
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/14/07
Our family has had five generations visit the Thompson House. I was part of the third and my grandchildren the fifth. Young or old one cannot find a better vacation spot than this well run, clean and friendly home away from home. The golf course while offering some challenges(slow play) is a scenic wonder, the people just delightful.

Always delightful
By Mike, 3/1/06
Clean, comfortable, friendly, modern and luxurious. Meet new friends or reconnect with old ones, the Thompson House is the place to go. New chef has spiced up the menu a bit. Looking forward to returning in summer of 2006.

We go back every year....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/20/05
The Thompson House is a great retreat, and close to the golf course. The management there make every attempt to assure your comfort and enjoyment. The help is wonderful and the rooms are comfortable. It is a great value. The only improvement I would suggest is to make the dinner menu a little more exciting. Breakfast is great but dinner is often bland, catering to the oldest and youngest guests. But there are plenty of good restaurant nearby.
