disappointing
By Corina, 1/16/06
Location for shopping and nightlife is good, but they don't have a gym, there is very little to do at the resort other than drink sleep and eat. Still under major renovation/construction so expect to hear jackhammers. Beaches are very eroded. Room service can take up to an hour for coffee. The spa is overpriced. The food is mostly decent. For the price this is not worth the money. Tours are expensive. You're better off renting a car and going places on your own. The wireless internet was very convenient.

AMAZING!
By April, 8/18/09
Absolutely fantastic in every way. We were married during our stay here and the wedding turned out perfect. They resort staff tended to our every need and took great care with every detail. I was even thrilled with the laundry service, who did a wonderful job cleaning my gown after the wedding for a much lower price than anyone in the U.S. would have charged. The food was delicious, every staff member very pleasant, and the accommodations beautiful. It was tranquil and serene, yet just a walk from nightlife and a ferry to Cozumel. I cannot rave enough about it. We just scheduled our return trip for our 1st anniversary; however, we are going to try out the couples only Palace resort down the way - Aventura Spa Palace. They offer shuttle service to Playacar Palace and since we have all access to all Palace Resorts, we thought we'd try a new one this time. We will probably stay in the Palace Resorts for every Cancun vacation from here on out. We loved it!!!

Great Location - Terrible Customer Service
By Adam, 2/4/10
Loved being right next to the main shopping street. Also, very close from two best attractions Xcaret and Xplor. Both are expensive but not to be missed. Service from staff at Playacar Palace was always pleasant but front desk, spa and gold desk and guest relations supervisors were horrible. They kept changing their story every day as to what was included in our package. When we booked amenities based upon their suggestions, then they would tell us the next day that it was not included. Wasted about four hours of our time arguing. Most of the time the desk personal were arguing in Spanish with supervisors while they kept us waiting endlessly. After watching this happen to other while we were there, we realized this was a a well planned bait and switch scheme by management who purposefully keeps guests and staff guessing and ends up nickel and diming guests on everything they had been told was included. They threatened to call the police and prevent us from leaving when we refused to pay $20 we were told was included. Real nice customer service....not!! Stay away, not worth the hassle.

Refunds are hard to come by
By Tica, 8/31/12
Now its August 31. It has been 170 days, 24 weeks since I requested a refund from this place. They now say they have sent it to an office in Florida, but that was a week ago & still no response. Countless emails.. While I'm sure this is a lovely resort...I have had an impossible time receiving a refund from this place. I made reservations to attend a wedding here that ended up being moved to St. Thomas. I gave my notice well ahead of the 45 days they asked for a cancellation. I was provided with an email to communicate this cancellation. It was a few days before anyone responded. Then they said, ok, it will be about 6-8 weeks for you to receive your refund becuase it is international. After those weeks passed & still did not receive a refund to my credit card, I inquired again. We can't refund your credit card because its been too long. (?) but if you send us your banking information, via a non-secure email, we are happy to refund your bank. No, I'm not sending all my banking account information to you in an email. My friend whose wedding it was received a check 7 weeks after she cancelled. Can you send me a check? Yes, I've checked with my credit manager we can send you a check. I waited 7 weeks to receive this check & nothing! They asked again for me to send my bank account information via email. Again I forwarded the email in which they promised to send a check, which was June 18. Its now August 9 & I'm still out $800! Shame on you Hector Ruben Klassen Villa, Michelle Farinas, Dora Abril Reyes Munoz, Pablo Augusto Keb Canche, Maria del Carmen Ruiz...None of these people have been able to resolve this issue in a timely manner & will hear from me from this day forward EVERYDAY until this is dealt with. So if you are positive in every way you're going great....if not be forewarned you will have to fight tooth & nail to receive your refund!

It does not get much better than this
By TerryB, 7/30/09
The Playacar Palace is a wonderful place to stay if you traveling to the Mexican Rivera. Central to Playa De Carmen, the resort gives you luxury, location and above all personal service that will make you never want to leave, or want to return as soon as possible next year. The staff makes Playacar Palace stand out from the rest of the myrid of hotel options available in this area. A part of the Mexican owned Palace resort chain, the staff go above and beyond to make you feel like family. The food choices are excellent, (try the staff's recommendations or local favorites). This is not a cheap all inclusive that kills you with marginal food served in a buffet. The rooms will spoil you. The Beach is small -if you are looking to lie on the beach the entire time. All rooms have an ocean view; it is wonderful to watch the sun come up sipping coffee as you wait to start your day. The hotel is big enough to have everything you want in a hotel but small enough that you can develop a relationship with the staff, like remembering your names and drink favorites. I cannot say enough times how wonderful the staff at Playacar Palace is. The location is very nearby the great local attractions such as Xcaret, Xel-Ha and Akumal Bay (driving from the Cancun hotel zone would be at least a 90 min drive each way to these popular sights). Playa De Carmen is a great place to hang out, have fun and relax. Playa is also the ferry point for the Cozumel Ferry. Playa is a great dive and fishing location as well. Playa is tourist friendly. I strongly recommend Playacar Palace and Playa as THE place to go when you are considering Cancun or the Mexican Riveria. They will try to get you to join Palace as a member. It's an interesting low pressure pitch and if you bargin well enough you can get a very, very good deal. If you don't want to hear the pitch - just say no. If you do...wait till the 3'd manager speaks to you- he has the very best deal. Don't sign early.

Website is deceiving! As well as prices
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/27/06
The Playacar Palace website is deceiving and presents the hotel as if it were in a lush excluded area...WRONG. It is about 50 feet from the ferry dock and shares the same "driveway." Upon arrival the front desk woman changed the prices of the rooms that were posted to be more expensive, even though we extensively contested her claims. Upon check up the same woman increased the overall price again! She threatened to not allow us to leave the country. The food was good and the waitstaff was wonderful. Do not attend unless you bring a lawyer!

Absolutely Fantastic
By Sandor, 6/6/06
My wife and I couldnt have asked for a better stay. The staff is awsome, very friendly, the name brand booze is always available and it was the first time we actually RELAXED on vacation. I wouldnt bring teenagers to this place, but for us it was ideal.

First time in Mexico
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/18/08
Well we were here May 5 2007 for 6 days and it was our first time in Mexico. This was the best vacation ever!Even our 2 teenagers loved it. The resort is first class, very very clean, food is excellent, workers are the nicest people you will ever meet. I was surprised when the maids would say hello to us every time you walked by in the morning, you don't find that here in the states. We went to Cozumel to the other Palace resort and snorkeled, that was wonderful and beautiful! It is a must! I have no complaints, not one, everything was perfect! We are now planing our second trip for May 2008 with more people. I can't wait!!

Fun place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/24/06
The rooms are spacious, but ours only had a sheet to separate the bathroom sink area from the toilet and shower. The once eroded beach is now back, so that's not an issue. The pool area was well tended and you definitely will not go thirsty! It's also right next to Ave 5 for shopping and the ferry to Cozumel, so no need for a cab ever. I wish they would do a better job enforcing the dress code at the "nicer" restaurants. It would really add to the ambiance. I've been to several resorts in Playacar and have not found a bad one yet. The formula of lots of food and lots of alcohol on a beautiful coast seems to work across the board. Tell Victor, the bartender, that his Novia says Hi!
