A GREAT PLACE
By ,
It is truely a destination for special occasions or for a great meal and view. The owners are very involved in the business and make sure you are well taken care of. Even the two sons work in the business. The location on the river is perfect day or night. The bar is fun and the game is always on. Dining outside on the large deck is fantastic, and in the spring i am told the white water rafting trips start from here and are exciting to watch. The rooms are nice and comfortable and only 200 yards from the enterance to Sequoia National Park. We will be back often!

Would certainly go here again
By ,
The setting was great!!! Had dinner outside at the restaurant and it was very good. Dessert was outstanding. There was a tightrope walker while we enjoyed dinner out on the balcony. (no bugs)..... and it was very entertaining.(was very cool really)... Views were great from the table and just very relaxing. Rooms were clean and had coffee pots for AM coffee. We were next to the road and it was no problem. No traffic after about 8:30... Sat outside and saw 5 cars from 7 to 8.... Room was somewhat small but we were not spending a week there.... very adequate for the evening. shower was clean and soap etc all there. Parked right in front of room... easy in and out. WI-FI available as well. AC worked fine, actually had to turn DOWN to vent only... got to cold. EASY drive to park..... People and staff were excellent.... we checked room before staying... no worries.... Definitely go back!!!

way over priced
By ,
The room was OK nothing fancy. We had coffee there but no sugar or cream (Yuck). We ate dinner there and I was SO disappointed. The way it was advertised I expected so much more. We didn't even get any complimentary rolls or bread with our meal. We were not full at all and the food looked and tasted old. Especially the twice baked potato. We paid over 50$ for just the two of us. The things I did like were friendly people and they did give us a bottle of champagne to celebrate our anniversary. The views were beautiful from our room and during dinner. one more disappointment, no complimentary breakfast. As much as we paid I expected that. I paid less in other places and got a whole breakfast bar. I will not be staying again unless they make some changes.

Been going here for years!
By ,
We love going up to the Gateway for a little vacation. We have been going there for about 7 years now and are still just as satisfied it keeps getting better. The restaurant has great food and is right on the creek! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone of my friends, and have!

A week end in heaven for two.
By ,
We visited the great trees in Sequoia National forest and had very hospitable service at the Gateway lodge and restaraunt. We hit the season end right on and the food quality and service at the restaraunt was over the top good. In terms of our timing of visit to the area, the crowds were done and gone and of course the wait for service was little to none. During the height of the busy busy summer season, it would and should be understandable that there may be little bit or so of a wait, and the air temp.'s were extreamly high and of course ware on both customers and staff. Our stay in the lodge was good, romantcally tadly rustic in a sense, but very accomodating in comfort with good air conditioning and coffe maker, and refrigerator and microwave.

Very Disappointing-Never Again
By ,
An aquarium so dirty the fish couldn't be seen. Dead flies on the windowsill. Over-priced food. Lousy food. Need I say more?

Read reviews and trust them....

Terribly disappointing. Service was very slow. Food very overpriced for the quality and quantity of what you received. The atmosphere was beautiful, but with what you pay for the meals you would think they could have at least something better than plastic chairs to sit and dine on. A bit tacky as far as we were concerned. Will not be visiting again in this lifetime.

The View's as Awesome as the Food is Awful
By ,
My first meal here was cold and awful. As if they'd simply opened a cold jar of Ragu and dumped it on the limp, overboiled pasta. It wasn't even heated enough to melt the shredded parmesan cheese (also from a plastic container.) But the view of the raging river from the dining deck is so spectacular, I had to take my dad there this year. Same cold Ragu poured on bland, overboiled ravioli! For $28.00+!! The wine selection was decent, but pricey. My pa reported his filet mignon was nothing special and cold. The hot bread rolls they brought out with the foil-wrapped pats of butter were really the only good part of the meal. This is a great place to stop for the view. I recommend bringing your own bottle of wine, paying the corkage fee, and sharing the least expensive appetizer you find, just so you can enjoy this spectacular view without having to endure such horrible food. The service was competent, and the staff friendly, but the food reminds one of a Swanson's TV dinner, served cold.
