Disappointed

The doorman who greets you, the clerk who checks you in and the concierge need to receive better training in how to handle consumers. The doorman doesn't get cab doors, etc. and you'd think he would as this hotel has automatic doors. The concierge is not well informed and has a limited knowledge of English though the clientele is mostly all from the English speaking world.
The set-up is lacking. Though design is attractive it is not useful. Closet doors bang into night tables and therefore don't fully open which severely limits use in a room (superior) which does not have enough closet space. The seating area which is two steps down is a plus and if it didn't take needed room away from the sleeping area would be perfect. The area with the bar and refrigerator is enclosed with beautiful mirrored doors which are very difficult to open. Most importantly the beautiful hardwood floors, combined with thin walls make this the noisiest hotel I've ever visited. Because of a couple having a huge argument in the room above ours which lasted all night we got absolutely no sleep. We called the front desk and went down. The person in charge stood outside the door and listened-informing us the next day that we were correct, there had been alot of noise and as their room had steps -alot of running up and down on uncarpeted steps. At this point they upgraded us to what they said was a quiet suite. It would have been if it wasn't next to the supply closet for the maids, an area which also doubled as the staging area for their carts and was also the entrance to the staff's stairway. So, though we were disturbed early we could sleep during the night.
This is clearly NOT a five star hotel. I do not know how it was rated as such.
