Sol Parque San Antonio, Puerto de la Cruz

We arrived having booked two rooms to share between three of us. The staff memeber at reception claimed our booking didn't include this and charged us for an extra room. However upon rechecking having arrived home our booking clearly did include it. Should have told him to forget in retrospect. We feel like they screwed us over. If you go, do not let them try and do the same to you! Apart from that our room was very noisy (even with windows closed) thanks to traffic from the main route outside. The dinner staff were quite rude to us also. The breakfast staff were very friendly though (every cloud eh?)

Our ground floor 3 bed room was the biggest ever, 28 feet long from front door to patio, it seemed newly refurbished as everything looked new. The maids had made a beautiful origami style swan out of a towel & placed it on the bed with flowers. Also a bowl of fruit & bottle of complimentary wine. We were well impressed to say the least altho not every room was like this apparently & some also face the road. Ask for room 112! Some revuers of this hotel complain of gloomy rooms & this certainly applied to ours as there was a tropical garden front & back with ferns & palms & an ornamental pool with ducks ten feet from the patio! & the ducks sometimes paid us a visit. Dating from the 1960's this hotel certainly doesn't look its age altho the trees have now mostly soared above rooftop height so if your window or balcony faces trees it will cut out the light but it beats looking at concrete any day & we thought it looked fantastic. Showing anyone photo's taken from the door of our room gives the impression that its in the middle east somewhere rather than Spain. The Restaurant takes getting used to, Definately avoid the first hour as there will be a big queue of Germans waiting for tables, an hour or so later & you will soon be shown to a table, the waiters work tirelessly to reset a table a soon as its vacated in order to get people seated as soon as possible. There are a number of pretty cats that live in the garden & these are not ferral but are cared for & fed properly, also caged parrots are wheeled out each day. All in all a very different hotel to others we have been in. Not suitable for children really, more for us oldies as were the majority of guests

We read quite a few reviews about the hotel and quite frankly were a little worried. Well all I can say is that we have just had the best holiday we have had in years!!!!!!! I will agree that there was a large german contingent not only at the hotel but in Puerto itself, but if you dig a little deeper into the history of Tenerife`s first holiday resort, you will find that Germany plays quite a part in it`s history so it didn`t bother us in the slightest. Our room was perfect; service second to none, we even tipped maid service. Meals were excellent - catering for every taste. Views of Teide were magnificent and changed on a daily basis. We had such a fabulous time, we have just booked to go back again!!!!!! WE CAN`T WAIT

I read many reviews having booked my holiday and was very sceptical when I left. HOWEVER I have to say I have had a fabulous time,whilst alot of the staff dont speak fluent English, they were helpful especially in the restaurant. This for me was a total selling point, I was travelling with two children and was concerned whether it would meet all our needs it certainly surpassed all expectations, with rolls and pastries cooked fresh on site each day, and such a vast selection to choose from. The grounds are fabulous a total contrast from some of the concrete resorts. It truly was beautiful. The views all around are spectacular, with snow still visible on Mount Tiede. There were not too many British or young children there so if you are going to party/socialise it isnt for you. It is a true chill out hotel. Downside is the road behind reception can be a little noisy, and take your own kettle if you want a brew in the room.
