Excellent
By greenthumb, 08/11/08
Origanally I had stayed across town at the Springhill, they where very rude so I left the next day to stay at the Waterside they were absolutly amazing they bent over backwards to make sure I had a relaxing stay. I wish I could name some of the folks that deserve some recognition for their wonderful and professional service, I will say that the front desk manager is one of the most understanding and nicest person. I will return and would recommend anybody to stay here. The parking may be overpriced but that is expected but the friendly staff makes up for it, every chance they get. However, the staff in the gift shop, that woman was rude as can be, so becareful in the gift shop.

No Transportation!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/20/07
I will be attending a conference at this hotel and asked about transportation from the airport. I was astounded that a hotel of this class did not provide transportation for guests to and from the airport! When I have a choice I will stay somewhere else!

I will return
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/14/07
It was my birthday weekend. The hotel was very clean and decorated nicely. The beds were very plush. This hotel is conveniently located to most everything. I walked to the Spirit of Norfolk and also attended the Jazz Festival. I also enjoyed the breakfast. The staff was very pleasant to talk to. People should stop commenting badly about the parking. It was fine, just like any city you have to pay to park, so get over it. I will stay at the Marriot Waterside again.

What you would expect
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/06/07
Typical downtown hotel. Typical Marriot level of service (allways very good to outstanding). As with all Marriotts, this is now a smoke free hotel. My room was a 'converted' smoking room and the room still had the telltale odor of smoke. If this is a problem for you I would make a special request at check in. Also - daily parking charge is a little high for this market but as I understand it the city is to blame for that.

Great Stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/14/06
I recently attended a conference and stayed at the Waterside Marriott in Norfolk, Virginia. I found the hotel to be clean, food was actually very good, and the staff couldn't have been more professional and friendly at the same time. The location is excellent, and I was lucky enough to have a room with a wonderful view! Only one critcism, I think they need additional people on the front desk but those who were staffing that area were most professional and I throughly enjoyed our interations. I would recommend this hotel for anyone going to Norfolk. By the way, the hotel is within walking distance of a mall, the art museum, Nautical Museum and the USS Wisconsin, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

An unusual experience...
By Claudia, 05/15/06
The Marriott Waterside is always a nice hotel to stay in. I have stayed here many times over the years. This time was unusual in that partying throughout the hotel occurred all night. When we tried to contact the front desk, no one would answer the phone. People where running from floor to floor, screaming, throwing glasses and breaking them by the elevator doors. This went on all night, on all different floors of the hotel. When I went down to check out the next morning, nothing was said about the noise & damage throughout the hotel. I went to pay my bill, still nothing. When I asked what type of compensation would we receive for a night of no sleep, the front desk took my bill and credited our account. No money due and no explnation was given, which was nice, but had I not asked we would have been charged in full. This was an isolated incident however I think for the paying customers who had to put up with such disruption, they should have been compensated without having to request it.

I couldn't wait to leave!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/07/06
The TV generally didn't work-I got it going for 15 minutes. The hotel staff got it up and running for an hour or so. I was there for a conference. During a lunch meeting, I had to specifically request silverware from a rather disinterested waiter. During the same lunch, the staff vanished-I had to go to the kitchen to get my own coffee cup. Otherwise, the room was clean and the location was nice (near Nauticus, waterfront, restaurants). The service was good at Shula's, but the steak was mediocre-the vegetables served with the steak turned out to be a few onions. Well overpriced for what you received. Go to one of the restaurants on Granby (?) Street-half the price, better food.

Excellent Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/05
An excellent hotel that knows how to cater to the traveling business executive. The rooms and staff are brilliant. The Shullas Steak house is one of the nation's best.

Wonderful, but pricey
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/03/05
Service is wonderful. Decor is fantastic with dark wood and a cozy fire place at the second floor lounge. For those who prefer a more modern lounge, the downstair restaurant/bar will suit your taste. Location is perfect as it is one block from the waterfront, two blocks in the other direction to the mall and restaurants all around. My only negative is the lack of convenient parking, which almost demands you use valet; though typical for a downtown hotel. By far, the best hotel in downtown Norfolk (and I've been to most of them).
