Hotel Karahe, Puerto Quepos

uncaring and unhelpful staff, bats and lizards in the room, the air conditioning barely worked and in a tropical forest u NEED cold air. The maids turned off the air whenever they came into our room and one night the unit began making awful noises that kept me up but the front desk never answered my calls so I got no sleep that night. The bkfst is minimal and not tasty, the beds are not comfy and the decor is outdated. We even got charged for drinks we didn't order and we had to have a mini trial to get the charge removed(the bar man testified). Stay somewhere else. The animals and beaches are super but both can be seen from other hotels.

Stayed at this place in Jan 08. We complained about the fact that there was no hot water for showers. The front desk promptly sent a repairman and he checked the hot water and agreed there was no hot water, explaining that they used a solar heating system and making some excuses for the total lack of hot water. The manager of the hotel also inspected the shower the next day and agreed - no hot water. No resolution & no discount was offered. The "buffet" breakfast in the morning was awful, a toaster that didn't work, some fake eggs, some beans and rice that had been sitting around for 2 hours, and some dried out fruit with a staff that sat around and talked amongst themselves. There is no pool-side or beach-side service from the adjacent restaurant due to the apathetic attitude of the staff. They won't even carry a lounge chair out to the beach for you like they do at ALL the other hotels further down on the beach. Don't expect to eat any meals here - you will have to go elsewhere. The rooms lack TV, and during the days we stayed at the hotel, the phone system was down too. The rooms were fairly clean and the cleaning staff has an artful way of arranging the towels into cute animal shapes. The bed was uncomfortable and there wasn't much else redeeming about the room besides the fact that the AC worked. The only saving grace about this place is the lovely landscaping, the pool, and the hotel's proximity to the beach and to the Manuel Antonio national park (about a 1K walk). In summary, avoid this dump, no good and overpriced. You will not get value for your $100+ here and the management and owners are unsympathetic. I am disputing the charge with my credit card company and hoping for some resolution.

The location of this hotel was just perfect: very close to the beach (in fact, the restaurant is right next to it), while most other, more expensive hotels, are way up. It is a very nice beach walk away from Manuel Antonio National Park. Every member of the staff was extremely nice and helpful, and went out of their way to make our stay pleasurable. They organized our tours and even found us a great deal for a car rental. Rooms were very spacious (no TV, though, but, who needs it?) and comfortable, and AC was very quiet. If we go back to the Quepos area, we are defintely staying there again. I am happy to recommend it to anyone who wants to spend a few quiet, or adventurous, days in Costa Rica.

It is just a great place, with a down to earth feeling and good prices. The people are warm, and the service is good. You have good nightlife near the hotel, but it is also a very nice place to go as a family.

What can you say, right on the beach, people are lovely, price is great, pretty clean. You must check this hotel out! Great overall experience for anyone.
