BEST WESTERN El Sitio Hotel & Casino, Liberia

Me and my family stayed at this hotel for 1 night when we first got to Costa Rica before going to Tambor and then one night on the way out. The service was horrible - they had lost our reservation both times and we were charged different rates for each night even though we stayed in the same type of room. Not sure if staff chooses not to speak English or they actually don't know how to. Air conditioning did not work and with two very small children it made for long nights. I have been back from my trip now for almost two months and I looked at my Visa and they hotel has tried to charge me another $100.00 from a night that I wasn't even in Costa Rica and I confirmed that they already charged me for the two nights I was there. I really didn't feel safe staying in this hotel. I will never stay there again and if I was the Best Western I wouldn't want to have my name affiliated with them.

Now that Liberia airport has more flights, we decided to stay there the last night of our stay in Costa Rica. This was perhaps our 20th trip to CR in the past decade or so. This hotel should lose its Best Western name. The chain should be ashamed to have this property listed. The service was abysmal, the room shabby, air conditioner inoperative, no alarm clock or radio, loud construction noise early in the morning... and those were the GOOD things about the hotel. I've stayed in cold-water cabins in the mountains with better service and cleaner accomodations. I can't see myself ever staying at this property again. I'm just happy some new hotels are going up nearby.

I've stayed at lots of hotels all over Costa Rica and have never had such terrible service. From the very moment we walked up to the check in counter the staff was rude and unhelpful. We stayed two days. The first morning we were awaken at 6:30 by the maintence crew using a saw right outside of our window. The following morning we were awakened by the front desk calling to tell us our transport was leaving without us, they had arranged for the transport and had told us it was coming a 9am, then called at 8am to tell us that it was leaving. Also, our air conditioner did not work. Liberia is a neat little town. Very clean and modern. It is a shame that we spent our time there in that hotel. Next time we go we'll just stay somewhere else.

i loved i found the staff very nice. i stayed there for one week and enjoyed myself. i really like it. The service was great. I spole little spanish but we were able to compensate. I liked it

I've stayed at the Best Western El Sitio Hotel two to three times every year since 2002. I've been treated very well every time. The staff is kind and helpful. The rooms are nice and clean. The same hotel in New York would five times the price.

No one can deny this hotel is situated in a beautiful country. The landscaping appears very special, particularly if this is your first visit to Costa Rica. Living in Costa Rica for several years myself, and in the past bringing most of my family and friends to this hotel, I have enjoyed the convienence of this hotel as a "first night" hotel for many years. Unfortunately, the last two times have been terrible experiences. They lost my reservation 5 times in order to charge me the more expensive rates, presented itself as English/Multilingual speakers, which they are not, they tried to exchange money to colones at a quarter of the rate in the casino, and they were extremely rude and unhelpful. I speak fluent costa rican spanish and they still refused to speak with me. Unfortunately, this was my last attempt with this hotel. I'm very disappointed. Hopefully they will change staff and management. Please add your experiences if they are better than mine.
