BEST WESTERN PLUS Dockside Waterfront Inn, Mackinaw City

Positives: Facility was beautiful, rooms nice and clean-location was perfect. Beds very comfortable and the staff were very nice. Negatives: took FOREVER for the water to get warm enough for a shower-- we were on the 4th floor ok, but for the price you pay, this shouldn't be an issue. Parking was very limited--you better plan to get back there early if you are driving anywhere because alot of people were left with no space. Toilet backed up the last day we were there, I know things happen, it was reported and when we checked out, we still hadn't seen anyone to fix it. Breakfast was not very good, great idea just too small for so many people. Once you got to the food, it wasn't too bad. Pretty standard for continental breakfast.

Arrive after a 12 hr drive and they are doing construction on the unit above, every 15 seconds a very loud noise and could not sleep, paper thin walls could hear the guy snoring in the next room and every ten minutes the heater would kick on and make a really loud noise, had to turn it off and try to sleep in the cold. Staff was horribly rude

The hotel was close to downtown and the ferries. Also a good value for the price. However the staff was extremely rude. Will not stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel for the second year in a row and enjoyed our stay. The location is probably its best attraction, as it's an easy walk to downtown restaurants & stores, jet boat launches, nice beach, etc. We traveled with another family, and got the two-room suite, which are two adjoining rooms, with kind of its own lobby -no in-room door - good for kids, but also good for privacy at night. Normally, I would say this hotel is overpriced, but we stayed Sun - Thursday when the rates are about half standard rate. Our rooms were clean on arrival and when returning at night, good bed/linens, nice, newer TV, good space; however, the A/C unit could use a new filter, cleaning, or upgrade due to the stale odor. Luckily, cool, crisp northern Michigan air is in abundance, so we kept the windows open day & night which was much better anyway. Pool/hot tub area, although a bit crowded, was relaxing at end of the day. Breakfast bar in morning is busy, but provided everyone a good meal to start long day. I would likely stay here again on future trips and also would recommend staying here vs the island, if with small children. There's a lot more to do in Mack. City for kids at night than the island (putt-putt, kid stores/attractions, fort, & other activities). Overall good value and base camp for daily ecscursions around area, to the island, UP, etc.

We arrived and got our room, no problems. At 4am our 7 year old got up to use the bathroom (number 1) and the toilet overflowed all over the bathroom floor. The rest of the stay was uneventful, cleaning lady was nice, same name as my mother in law. My 3 year olds pullup leaked overnight so our bed had to be stripped so I bundled it all up for her and she threw it all in the bag. Trip ends, we tip the maid pretty well. Get home and we are missing a new bottle of motrin, several high end hair products, but of course have no proof that it was stolen. Then, we have a 15 dollar charge on our acct in addition to the hotel room charge. The staff claimed we were short a pillow, there were 8 in the room and only 7 were left. We explained perhaps the pillow was in the bedding that was changed when my son had an accident:we did not take the pillow (gross) it must've got lost in the laundry. In the end, they accused us of stealing the pillow, would not give us our money back. Ill never stay there again! As a consumer you don't have a leg to stand on in this arguement of the missing pillow. And to think I tipped the maid in addition to the pillow charge! The only reason I booked this hotel over the Hamilton was the location. The Hamilton is only a few hotels down, looks far on the map but once you're there it really isn't far at all. And the dock you're next to is not the dock for the boat trip to the island, that was another reason we stayed there. After speaking with the staff, it was clear that even though we told them they would be losing a customer over a 15 dollar pillow they didn't care. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

We loved the location. The room was nice, standard but clean and neat. It was close to the restraunts and shopping and Mackinaw Island Ferry's. The free breakfast was standard, something for everyone . The staff was pleasant and courteous. We would go there again.

The people are very rude that operate this motel and do not deliver the type of room agreed on. The room was filthy and I also saw bugs! Very expensive... you can get a clean room over the bridge for half the price.

It`s a great place for vacation.Rooms very clean and the breakfast very delicious.We don´t want to stay anywhere else.We had a lakefront room with balcony and if we need help with the internet the deskfront help us with their own laptop.They all very friendly and helpful at all time.Thank you

We were told that our reserved room at the Hamilton Inn Select was not available. The motel sent us to this Best Western. Not only we were told no jacuzzi rooms were available above the 1st floor, we were charged $239 for a room that was, at best, only $169. The room was dirty and smelly. There was trash and cobwebs on the patio area. The "hot breakfast" was not staffed, and again, was not kept clean. Buyer beware of this hotel and the Hamilton Inn Select. I would NEVER stay here again! Oh, and both hotels are owned by the same family.
