Little Palm Island - I want to go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/10/09
My wife and I visited on our honeymoon in November 1989, so I can't comment on the current state of the facilities or food (they were wonderful when we went). We had a wonderful, romatic time. I instead wanted to talk about some of the comments about the island in other reviews. The island is little and you can walk around it in 5 minutes, and you probably won't run into anyone else. Like everywhere on the Gulf side, there isn't any surf. If there was, the island would have washed away years ago. There are sand flats off one end of the island so you can walk far out and the water will still be very shallow. On the other end, it is mangroves and looks out to a nearby mangrove island. On this end, I loved watching the fish in the water and the birds on the neighboring island. Little Palm is a fabulous place to escape the rest of the world. If you want to watch TV, or keep up with current events, or engage in people-watching, or practice your surfing skills, just don't go there. That's not what LPI offers. If you want the quiet and solitude, and you love the person you are going with, you will have a wonderful time in a beautiful location. Ever since we went, I am still looking for netting to put over our bedroom's ceiling fan so that it waves gently over the bed. I can't imagine something so simple giving such a romantic effect.

"Gilligan's Island meets The Ritz Carlton"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/10/09
My husband an I've traveled all over the world and stayed at some of the finest hotels. That being said, none compared to our experience to Little Palm Island! It was FABULOUS - literally a 10/10!! The beaches, spa, food & beverage, watersports and customer service was outstanding! Would highly recommend LPI to everyone ..... From the moment we arrived until the moments we left - THE BEST vacation experience ever! We will be back again and again and again!! - Jenifer & Ed Kiernan Naples, Florida

Forget the rest of the world!
By DeGrande, 06/10/09
We went there for one week. After 4 years of no vacation, this place recharged our batteries. Enjoying peace and quite, nature, just relaxing, doing nothing if you don't want to. Going with a waterplane to another island that's your own for a couple of hours, just fantastic. Great food, although we were happy to eat a regular burger when we got home. Really a place where you can forget the rest of the world. We had a baby at home and I thought I would have a hard time leaving him with grandma. All my worries were gone in a flash once we started to relax.

It is great if you are into your partner
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/10/09
I have been twice.... and the bottom line is... if you are there with someone you are into.... and having a great time with them.. the place is amazing... if you are just going to go... and your relationship is not the type where you can focus just on each other.. go somewhere else...I loved it... once.. not so good the other time.... for obvious reasons

Best Vacation Ever!!
By Matt, 04/30/09
My wife and I spent 4 days, 3 nights there and it was absoultely amazing. The peace and quiet you get is perfect for unwinding and relaxing. The staff is wonderful, they do anything you need but also give you all the privacy you want. The wildlife is amazing and the views are breathtaking. The resort might be expensive but it is well worth the money for everything the island offers. If you want a vacation with lots of stuff, don't go here, if you want a vacation to do nothing and enjoy every second this resort is perfect. No tv, no phone, no distractions just island life at its best. Those people that complain about cost, it is expensive but you know that going in, everything is expensive but if you want the most romantic place it will cost a little more. We thought the price was more than reasonable for having your own private island that seemed like you are the only people on it. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to rekindle that romance between you and your significant other. Best resort by far!!!

Overrated
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/08/09
I stayed 3 nights with my wife. We could not wait for the trip to be over. The bungalows are very dark inside, have absurdly poor lighting, dated bathroom facilities, and no view whatsoever. You have to stand on your deck and strain to see the water. Not offering televisions in the rooms at least upon request is silly as many people are used to relaxing while watching programs or movies. The breakfast's pancakes seemed like nuked frozen ones. Breakfast and lunch were overpriced and terrible. There are no other dining options. Lunch was terrible with some portions being small and others randomly were oversized like the hotdog which was served burned. There is a tiny beach where you are elbow to elbow with people. The workout room is cluttered and small. There is nothing to do when there is a small craft advisory as there is much of the winter which precludes water excursions. That means unless you drive to key west (which is charming for an hour or so), you either have to lay out like a seal or read. These are activities that most people can only do a few hours a day. The only memorable experience were the dinners and the fire-pits. Service is very slow but as there is nothing else to do anyway, at least it kills the night. This place needs to be spruced up, made more airy, and fixed. Having stayed in St. Barths and other expensive tropical destinations, this place does not even compare. This place has obvioulsy been getting by its name and exclusivity but it does not have the goods. Your $1,000 or more a night is best spent elsewhere.

The most romantic high end experience of the Keys
By KathyG, 01/05/09
We only had dinner but wished we were hotel guests. The atmosphere with tiki torches, a bonfire, open air seating, live music of jazz guitar with imaginative arrangements greeted us after a 10 minute boat ride to the island. The wait staff were professional and knew how to please without being overbearing. The food was excellent. A night to remember!

Little bit of Heaven on Earth!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/05/08
The Island is so beautiful with native wildlife and birds that can be seen few other places. I even got to see a Mangrove Cuckoo, a life bird for me. The Spa services were amazing, very tailored to the island setting, and the spa staff was the best, professional while friendly. Their attention to detail is amazing, everywhere you go they know your name and preferences! The hot stone massage was the ultimate in relaxation and the pedicure was the nicest I've ever had (loved the rose petals in the water)! A hairdresser came out to do a shampoo and blow dry just for me! I also indulged in a Signature facial and it was relaxing and refreshing. The food was amazing and very accessable, not only did we have room service the gal doing my pedicrue ordered a salad for me that was delivered right to the salon, now that's service! Sunday brunch is the ultimate. The kayaking is great, we went with a local boat flatts fishing and had a grand day. Hooked a tarpon, yellowtail, and a small shark. At night you can fish right from the front dock at the Island. The Gym is small but enough to give you a quick cardio workout. The library is wonderful and serene. The pool bar is beautiful and we even ate lunch there one day. All in all it is a wonderful place to regroup and refresh from the daily grind. We will most certainly go back as soon as we can. I like that it is so easy to get to and enjoy riding the launch out to the island. The other big draw for me is the star gazing, because it is so far from any ambient light. It was the first time I got to see the Southern Cross. So if you are in need of some "Mental Floss" as Jimmy Buffet says, it's just what the doctor ordered!

Luxurious Relaxation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/09/08
Little Palm Island is an amazing resort. The bungalow suites included beautiful furnishings befitting a luxury tropical resort. The bed was beautiful and romantic with mosquito netting and was extremely comfortable. The suite included many thoughtful touches - padded hangers, cotton pads/Q-tips, bath sponges, nice toiletries, robes and slippers, coffee maker, binoculars and bird-watching guide, ice brought to your suite each day. Each suite was very private. Dining at Little Palm is unbelievable. Fresh sea food, amazing sauces, perfectly cooked meats, fresh vegetables uniquely prepared, excellent wine list, exquisite presentation. The atmosphere too is incredible, on an ocean front deck or on the beach. You can also reserve private dining in a gazebo on a point (for a special service fee), or in your suite. I'm pretty picky about food, but this was by far the best dining experience I've ever had. The island is all about doing nothing, but there's a wonderful spa, complimentary kayaks, hobie cats, etc, a very nice pool, and lots of quite places to lounge on a chair or hammock. The service is quite attentive without being intrusive, and they will accommodate virtually any request, often with service fees. I will note that all this fine food, excellent service, and luxury surroundings does come with a price. Not a budget vacation by any means. Our only complaint when my husband and I vacationed here for our 10th anniversary is that one afternoon as we were relaxing and reading on our deck, we were disturbed by a loud, rowdy group of transient boaters who were at the pool bar. They were screaming and using vulgar language, which was very inconsistent with the atmosphere at the resort. After several attempts to reach the manager's office, and concierge, we finally got someone, who got control of the situation. But we felt that this situation should never have been allowed to occur. We also had a hard time reaching the offices by telephone most times that we tried. Other than that, the sunsets were beautiful and it was pure relaxation and luxury. We had a wonderful romantic getaway.

A True Paradise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/30/08
A wonderful getaway. If you're looking for surf and big beaches go elsewhere...but if you're looking for a romantic adventure you have to try Little Palm out at least once! The 15 minute boat ride out to the private island is a fun and very romantic at night, especially if there's a moon. The cabanas are nicely decorated though we did feel there were a few updates that could be had. But the BEST feature is that every cabana has its own private OUTDOOR SHOWER! Lots of FUN, if you know what I mean! The restaraunt is very nice (reviews on here saying it isn't are a lie--see Zagat for OUTSTANDING reviews!) and breakfast is better had through room service on your cabana's porch. Just a LOVELY place! Do NOT take into consideration the bonehead that gives it one star--OBVIOUSLY has something more against the place than meets the eye (possibly a disgruntled ex-employee perhaps)...do take into consideration that this isn't the place for you if you're looking for a ton of activities or you're light in the wallet, because this place is expensive...but if its peace and quiet and key deer walking up to you looking for snacks (which you're not supposed to do, but who can resist?) this place is for YOU!
