Had a Great Time
By ,
After reading the reviews I was so nervous that this hotel was horrible, but I was happy that its NOT!! Hubby and I had an amazing time! The food was good, the staff soo nice, our room was clean, the air condition worked just fine. The beach access was great!! There is only one complaint, im not sure how they do this at other hotels but the concierge service workers hound u endlessly about going to see the other hotels (Grand Oasis) and to sit through on of their presentations. DON"T DO IT!! Just tell them NO, its such a waste of your vaca time. Other then that had a great time and will go back to hotel. Great Location. Great fun.

BE WARNED! DONT LET THE PHOTOS FOOL YOU!
By ,
the lobby is beautiful and the view of the pool and ocean are too.HOWEVER..the a/c units do not work. room was always damp. funny smelling..the staff very rude and hardly spoke english. food is horrible, the drinks are watered down and they do not have name brands. you have to buy the wine if you want it unless you want the house wine? No entertainment, not even music in lobby..one bar opened, two resturants were closed most of the time. one place for breakfast and you had to walk down 35 stairs to get to it and then back up. room mini bar had 2 sodas and 1 beer and it took 6 calls per day to get any more. No coffee in room either. I had to beg for water and then ended up paying $6 in gift store. They charged me $34 for a bottle of panama jack tanning lotion. I asked them to take it back before i left the store and they would not. They act like americans are not supposed to be there. you have to pay to use the jacuzzi. pools are freezing cold so no one is swimming. when you try to get info from the conceirge they try to sell you something. we were supposed to get the anniversary package and renew our vows. we got nothing! the towels and shower curtain were stained and tatered.. this hotel needs to be shut down!

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
By ,
The hotel had its "grand opening" the day before we arrived. It should have stayed closed. Lobby looked great but we received are rude awakening when we hit the room. Paid for an upgrade for ocean view got weed view. Requested a room change got the "ocean view suite" view was amazing. room was what I would have expected at a motel 6 that had been opened and run down for 10 years. Found out that key lock was not working after a drunk used his key to enter our room at one in the morning. Moved to another "suite" TV did not work, phone did not work, shower did not work, tub did not drain, hair dryer blue up. Manager thinks all these things including a drunk entering our room in the middle of the night and getting angry when we tryed to push him out of the room. NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL IT SHOULD HAVE STAYED CLOSED IF YOU ASK ME THEY JUST OPENED THE DOORS AFTER IT HAD SAT UNUSED FOR A YEAR WITH OUT UPDATING OR ENSURING THAT EVERY THING WAS WORKING. Oh yeah, entertainment what entertainment. I think they should have paid me to stay there.

Average resort

This resort was okay, but if you have other resorts to compare it to then it's not too great. The grounds were nothing special and the pools were just average. Also, the food wasn't very good. I didn't get sick, but it just didn't taste too good and it wasn't open late if you got hungry after dinner. Some other places I've stayed had food at the buffet all night long, which is nice if you go out for the night and want to eat when you get back late.

NEVER stay at Grand Oasis Playa Cancun- MISTAKE!!
By ,
The employees are crooked and steal your towels so you have to pay for them at the end of your stay! When you check in everybody in your party gets a towel card..when you go down to the pool/beach you give your card to the towel holder, he then gives you your towel..when you are done at the end of the day you bring your towel back and and get your card back...well..2 out of our 5 towels were stolen and one of the employees we were chatting with for most of the day said "that he saw 2 suspious girls walk off with them"... If he saw them, why wouldn't an employee stop them? He knew they were our towels cause we had been sitting there and laying by the pool in that spot thee WHOLE DAY! At this hotel everybody just leaves their towels on their chair and that way people know that that chair is taken. We came up with it had to be an employee because he "couldn't remember what the girls looked like." We talked to the manager of the hotel about the issue, and he even responded with "there is nothing I can do for you!" It's $15 a towel. It's not the money factor..it's the honesty factor! So they would rather lose out on $5,000 for us to come back over $30 worth of towels?! We figured thats how they make their money. Almost every Front Desk employee was extremely rude, and very unhelpful. I'm not a hard person to please, and I can honestly say that I wouldn't suggest anybody stay at this hotel!!

place is better than what the others are saying
By ,
ok a lot of the reviews here must be from people who never left the country before, this is mexico , things will be a little different. 1. Food is good, just go to either the Chinese place , the grand buffet, or make a reservation for the mexican resteraunt ( best service is there by the way ) 2. Very very clean 3. Serive was great 4. People complain about the heat, its Mexico, come on, if you dont like the heat go back to Maine or Minnesota 5. Complaing about nothing to do !! ??? What do you want to do there ? Hotel is for eating , sleeping and relaxing by the pool, take a bus ( R1 ) down to the bar district and you will have more things to do there than any city in the US. Oh yeh the bus costs a $1 thats it. 6. Not all inclusive because they require you to pay rental for your safe ? SO WHAT it cost us $3 bucks for 3 days....... im not sure what people are thinking this is Mexico, its gonna be hot, some people might not understand you, just move on to the next person, this was a damn good place i recommend to everyone.

Stay somewhere else!
By ,
The hotel has an age restriction so if you want to stay at a place that doesn't have children around this is the place to go. The buffet is very large and has decent food although it got old after a few days as the selection didn't change much day to day. As for service, the bars are very understaffed, lots of waiting for a drink. Also you have to pay for a lock and key for the safe in the rooms which is aboslutely a joke as it is around 4 dollars a day. The hotel does not cover any loss to personal property unless it was in your safe. A couple from our group found out the hard way. They had 300 dollars cash hidden in their suitcase and had it stolen by the housekeeping. They went through their dirty clothes to find it, of course the hotel wouldn't do anything about it because it wasn't in the safe. Needless to say their were security guards accompanying the housekeeping staff the rest of the time we were there. Location of the hotel was great, nice beach and decent pool. We went to the sister resort, the Grand Oasis to check that out. Much better place, bigger pool and friendlier staff.

would never stay there again!!!!!!!
By ,
When i got there instead of ocean view i got a road view. My air cond leaked water all over floor after about hour running. They told me not to run it because it would mess it up. They claimed they were out of rooms and couldnt put me in another one. Everyday i had to ask for towels or washclothes. Food was terrible and waited for a hour one night to get my food. Drinks tasted terrible. Everyone that was staying there when i was there had nothing good to say about it. I have been to cancun about 15 times and this was the worst place i ever stayed. The only good thing about the trip was it was over Christmas and it was cold at home.

Not worth the moeny
By ,
This place is horrible. Nothing to do but sit around like old people, and i am 34 years old. No activities or fun stuff to do. The Gekko Bar was unattended everynight, the food was WAY out of the ordinary. I would never go back.

Get out of Dodge City
By ,
This is not a 5 star resort as advertised... dirty rooms, urine on toilet seats, loud air conditioners, mold on pillows and shower curtains, towels that you would use as rags, poor service and horrible food. Everyone in our party (4) all got violently ill and ended up checking out a day early which wasn't soon enough. Staff could care less... most times there wasn't a staff person around. At a five star resort, you would expect to get waited on, served drinks, something... never again.
