Our second trip and still happy with Barceló
By Rai, 4/11/12
This was our second stay in five years at this hotel. It prved to be just as good as the first. The property was kept immaculate. the pools were clean. the drinks were excellent and often delivered right to your beach or pool location. This time we had an ocean view from the sixth floor. We ate every meal in the central buffet. The variety was immense, the service was impeccable, and the hours were very convenient. We did have to rent a safe lock at 3.00 USD per day. The beach was soft sand and extended at least 100+ feet out into the ocean. The entertainment was quite loud but offered a complete variety all week long. We did not encounter nor see any rude behavior by guests. The employees were most gracious. I compiled a list of those who served us so well and will commend them in a letter to the management. We enjoyed the Pirate ship[ dinner cruise but would not recommend the snorkel trip as it was rushed and hardly worth the time and cost. Apple matched the hotel cost for the Pirate Ship Cruise and reduced the rate for the snorkel trip as we had our own gear.

Please do not stay at this resort
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/26/11
Safety was not a concern here. If you choose to stay here please be aware of your surroundings, do not go alone, know what you are drinking and be careful of how much money you carry on you.

First trip to Mexico & it was great!
By Amber, 7/5/10
Me, my boyfriend and one other couple stayed here for 4 glorious days. We had a great experience and for it being our first time to Mexico it was a great starter destination/hotel. The pool was awesome the beach was beautiful and the service was good. The hotel, pool and beach areas were clean and tidy and the staff was always straightening and cleaning. I totally recommend this place.

It was OK- not bad, not stellar
By Sara, 5/19/10
It was nice, but I don't think I would go back. The staff was nice, especially Maria who coordinated our vow renewal on the beach. The drinks were good and the bartenders were good. Our AC unit was noisy as hell and didn't cool very well. The maids were nice and did a good job. I wonder when our bed cover was last washed though, if you looked closely it had pen writing all over it. The food was so so. It didn't change much day to day. Actually it was just about the same every day. We all got sick at one point or another. And we were very careful about what we ate and drank (no water!). The pools were nice, the swim up bar was my favorite. Great for socializing, not as noisy as the main pool. The one on the roof is nice for early afternoons. The beach was clean and the ocean fun. Bring a small float with you to beat the waves. Next time I'm going to Playa, I hear it is much better. Figure on a minimum $10 USD for a taxi ride, but usually more. It is nice the mall is right across the road for pharmacy items. And the Tequila shop (?) in the mall, upstairs, has some of the best prices in town for souvenir items.

it was just okay
By Leanne, 2/23/10
After visiting this hotel for a spring break, I would probably not go back. The food was nasty, the service wasn't bad and the drinks were okay. I would choose another all inclusive hotel if you are going to make an expensive trip out of it. If you are just going for a few days just to get away, then it was a decent hotel, but to make a family vacation out of it, then no. The rooms were disgusting, the sink and toliet overflowed multiple times. The service and front desk were rude, almost called the cops because they thought a residence didn't belong and were going to arrest them for trespassing just because he didn't have his key to the room. Overall, it wasn't a good, but it wasn't a bad experience. But I more than likely would not come back to this hotel

Best HOTEL EVER!
By Richie, 1/19/10
I went to Cancun Mexico and stood in barcelo tucancun with the all inclusive plan for a week. I can't lie it was one of the best experiences i ever had. The service there was awesome everybody remembers your name and there is always something to do. They have the best show, pool entertainment/activities, and the food is great. Make sure you make reservation at night in all 3 restaurants. This hotel has 3 pools and many bars with many great bartenders. Everyone is very friendly at all times and will take that extra step for you. If i could i would live in this hotel that's how great it is. It is only a 10 minute bus ride from the strip and there is a huge shopping mall across the street. Make sure you check out the tequila factory across the street in the mall. They will get you and your friends drunk for free! .. I am definitely going back. VIVA MEXICO!

It was an amazing view but the food was so..so..
By david, 9/11/09
We really loved the view from the moment we stepped into the lobby! It sits on a quiet beach that has very little marine traffic. Enjoyed swimming in the ocean during the day and pool at night. We booked a lagoon view and ended up with a lagoon and ocean view due to the wrap around deck!!! It was wonderful and the room was beautiful and clean. The bed was soft and comfy and maid service was reliable. Do yourself a favor and say no to the timeshare people when you check in. We were told by other vacationers that it took nearly 2 hours and was high pressure. Use the bus, it is only .60 cents each way or 6.5 pecos. What a thrilling way to see the city. Also book your excursions through expedia before you go for only $50 US dollars each. You can chose the days to go when you check in. We would recommend going to Chichen Itza as it was a wonderful tour with a full lunch and a stop by a beautiful sink hole the size of texas that you can swim in! The mayan ruins are a must see. Back to the hotel, the food was ok (not as good as on a cruise) but nothing to write home about. We really enjoyed our stay here at this beautiful resort in Cancun.

Worth the money
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/9/09
The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful, especially at the breakfast buffet. The front desk staff, rude and not much help in any area. Food was good, as were the drinks. The mall across the street has great prices on souvenirs and liqour, liqour being a few dollars cheaper than at the dutyfree shop at the airport. The airconditioning in the rooms, and some of the restaurants was less than expected. I think they have everything turned up because of the fact that not even 1/3 of the hotel was occupied. We paid $400.00 per person, 3 nights all inclusive, including air from Philly.

It is very bad. Be careful do not take this hotel
By martin, 8/16/09
I am not kidding, I was there the first week of this month, august 2009. Just as an example of the nightmare, the weather was 37 outside and inside, because air conditioning did not work in the rooms, neither in the restaurants. It does not deserve any star, but fraudulently they show themselves as a 5 star hotel and they charge you on that basis.

Great price and very satisifed!
By cj, 8/12/09
Well after booking the trip I was reading up on the hotel and was a little apprehensive of the place due to many bad reviews. So I kept an open mind and with the amazing price, what could be so bad, right? I am a frequent traveler and have visited about four different counties other than the US so I feel I am well versed in many areas of expectations. So overall Barcelo Tucancun is a 4 out of 5 rating. The food was good ( I am a BIG food person) I do not eat meat though there was many selections for my diet. The down fall to the food was that food was always easily assessable at all times w/o having to sit down. As far as the service, it was excellent! All the employees went out of there way to help and answered ALL of our questions (one busman even helped us with our cancelled snorkeling trip & ensured we got on another one!) I believe in the Golden Rule and after reading the service was bad for others, I am now thinking it was them NOT the employees!! They wanted us to enjoy our stay and experience their Country! The room was nice and clean. The Pools were pretty but could have used a little more scrubbing on the tiles. We loved some of the bartenders such as Antonio and Jesus!! They took care of us esp. after we gave them a few extra $ for tip which after noticing, I saw no one else doing so! This helps for better service. As far as the entertainment, this is where I can say the hotel failed at. They had some actives in the afternoon then stopped till 9pm. I wish they had a band or more "Mexican" style music while we lodged at the pool! The beach was nice. I was expecting a little less beach however, we were pleased. The ocean is beautiful and I took many walks (best in the AM). I would visit again and go back to a Barcelo chain! Please do not listen to all the crappy comments. Go with no high expectations other than having a relaxed and enjoyable vacation!
