Surprise fee at check out
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/21/11
The hotel is nice and weel situated in toronto. However the 9$ surprise fee they charge when you check OUT is unacceptable. It should simply be part of the basic price for a room (when we are shooping for a hotel, we want to compare the full price of a room between different hotels). That is swindling. I will never go back there!

Big disappoitment
By Joe, 4/19/11
This hotel is not worth what it charges. The location is good. From outside it looks presentable but the quality of the rooms are that of a cheap motel. the rooms are very small, the carpets inside worn out. " high speed" internet seemed not working at all. There was a smell of dust and mildew from the heater. One day staff did not clean our room. (they forgot). On the way out extra charges $9.04 dollars per each day for facility fee, which i was not aware of. Do not be misled by it's name. I travel often, and I know what a good hotel is.

Iffy Service, Good Location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/20/10
First, I’ll highlight the positives. The hotel had quite a good location, within easy walking distance of Chinatown, the University, Yonge Street, the Theatre District, etc. The lobby was nice and the room was pretty. Now, onto the bad. We had a reservation and a confirmation number. Check-in was at 3 pm, and we were supposed to have a room with a queen bed. We arrived at 4 pm to find our room was not ready. The woman at the desk was not apologetic at all. I asked if there was something they could do to assist us (meaning, give us a discount or somehow compensate us otherwise). She said she could upgrade us to a luxury suite for $100 more. What a joke! Then, she compounded the situation by explaining there were a lot of European tourists stranded there due to the volcano in Iceland, and they were trying to check them back in to their "dirty" rooms and get the leftover rooms cleaned for the other guests asap. I can't believe she said that with a straight face! I do sympathize with the stranded tourists, but she basically explained to me she is giving precedence to guests who have already checked out rather than incoming guests who have actually reserved their rooms for that night. At the very least, it showed poor training/professionalism that she would actually explain that to us. On top of that, we asked how long it would be, and she said in an exasperated tone, it could be a half hour, could be an hour. My boyfriend and I had to basically go take a walk in the cold wind and rain for an hour to kill time. When we went back to the hotel around 5 pm, our room was finally ready. When we got into our room, it was nice, but very small. Plus, the bed was definitely a double! No way was that a queen size bed! We were exhausted so didn't bother complaining, but it was frustrating. The room was fairly clean and had a nice scent to it. Décor was slightly French-country. The shades did not block out the light as well as they could have. The bed was very noisy /rickety sounding for a hotel bed, which was pretty shocking! The walls were also thin. I could hear our next door neighbors pretty clearly. After we freshened up, we decided to venture back out into the city for dinner. The elevator took about 10 minutes! When we arrived in the lobby, we asked the woman at the front desk for a street map and some ideas for areas with lots of restaurants. She was nice and pointed out some routes we could take… so we took one of them. Well, she had us walking down what ended up being a district of office buildings. We walked for blocks and blocks with absolutely no restaurants except the occasional Tim Horton’s! We finally made our way to the Theatre District where there was a block of restaurants. The final blow was when we got a wake-up call that we had not requested at 7 am. Being awoken so early just made us go back to sleep and sleep in later than we would have. If I was able to get a really good deal, I would go back there again for the location… but if you are looking for a place with an emphasis on customer service, I would go elsewhere.

Disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/24/07
My husband and I stayed here in Sept 2007. I selected this hotel is because it is a member of the Preferred Hotels and Resorts. The guest rooms and bathrooms are extrememly small. We could barely open our suitcases on the floor. The bathroom does not have the appearance (it is very ugly) and the amenities you'd expect from a Preferred property. Fortunately, they allowed us to check out after one night (I booked three) without penalty.

Small rooms but great location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/8/06
The best thing about the Met is where it's situated -- about midway walking distance between Chinatown (Cafe 688 is a great restaurant) and Yonge Street (great shopping). When we got there, we were immediately upgraded to a nicer room -- which was a nice surprise. It was a corner room with a great view of Toronto. The room was small, but all the appointments were nicely done (even though there was a small stain on our fabric headboard). Even the elevators were nicely decorated with Asian fabrics encased in glass. In the evening, they turn down your bed (although there is no chocolate treat that they leave for you, as do some of the nicer hotels). My thinking is that if they're going to come into the room to make that effort, is a little piece of chocolate too much to ask? For the price, I recommend the Met. I do not, however, recommend parking your car (by yourself) in the parking garage. It's a winding maze with columns at every turn. Spring for the valet, it's worth it.

4 Stars
By Christian, 8/30/06
Stayed 2 nights and it was very nice, not the cleanest, but the service was great. The staff was very helpful on where to go and what to see in Toronto. The room was small, but cozy and the beds were very comfortable. The pool wasn't very deep and the health club was small with faulty machines, but the jacuzzi and sauna were very nice and relaxing.

Absolutely Disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/13/06
My boyfriend and I are both law students with loans, and as such were just delighted when we saw a great per night rate at a 4-star hotel in Toronto. Too good to be true? But, of course! Other than the hotel being basically in Chinatown, the check-in procedure was unnecessarily long and the staff was discourteous, inattentive, and uninformative throughout our entire stay. The rooms were extremely tiny, not exactly the cleanest, the iron & board were just strewn across the floor, the towels were rough, the linens were not as portrayed, the air conditioner shakes the room at night every time it restarts, and a staffer comes to check whether you have used the mini bar each morning around 8:30am. On to the pool area, let’s just say that we are hoping that the abundance of hair floating in the foam of the hot tub was chest hair. The electronic check-out did not work, and the staffer who checked us out was rude and did not ask us about nor thank us for our stay. BRAVO to the marketing staff for portraying this 1 star motel as a 4 star hotel. For those who decide to book anyway, parking was extra, the "complimentary limo service" only operates between 8am - 9am, and the walk to the Mill Street (the Distillery area) is not 20 mins.
