Otter Inn, Monterey

We loved The OtterInn, great location, great beds,great staff and FREE parking. The seaguls are loud ,however if you want to be near the ocean you have to accept the birds. We always enjoy our stay and always come back

We paid $99 on a Sunday night in September and were in walking distance to Cannery Row. The rooms were clean and the value was exceptional. Couldn't touch the price in the area. We'd stay again.

The Otter in is in an excellent location, within a few blocks of the Aquarium and Cannery Row. The prices are very affordable for this area. (We are staying here as I write.) We have the 2 bedroom suite on the 4th floor. This hotel is kid friendly. The refrigerator, furniture, bathroom, carpet, bed linens, & curtains, are all clean---though they are mismatched. The wallpaper shows sign of wear. The bathroom has a nice granite countertop, nice sink fixture (though it squeaks), and it looks like marble on the floor. The tub/shower is an insert (also shows wear) with an upgraded shower head. The downside of the bathroom is that the grout they used is dark so it looks dirty. The two room suite we have has 2 tvs, free wireless internet connection, a coffee maker, refrigerator, and phone. Make sure to bring earplugs if you stay here because there are A LoT of seagulls and they are loud all night long. They run across the roof of the hotel and "cry" all night. (Seagull party or something!) Also, on the lower floors there is a lot of street noise and you can really hear the people walking above you. The hotel gives each guestroom a generous little basket of snacks: 2 breakfast bars, nuts, 4 Svenhard's danishes, & chex mix. The biggest negatives that I see are, the noise, and the bed is too hard for my taste. We've stayed here before and will continue to because of the location and price. If you want more of a luxury hotel, the Montery Hotel Plaza & Spa is great, but costs $$$$.

The Otter Inn was an experience. We walked into our room and could not stand the smell of the air freshener/cleanser that was sprayed in excess. You could hear all the guests staying around you through the walls. We were on the second floor and thought whomever was staying above us might fall through the ceiling at any moment. It was loud at night with guests playing rap music and our upstairs neighbor pacing the floor with squeaks and creaks. Overall, the location was good, but we wouldn't go back.

THE BEST THING I COULD HAVE DONE WAS GET OUT OF THERE. WE DID NOT EVEN GET A CHANCE TO CHECK IN BECAUSE OF THE HORRIBLE ATTITUDE OF THE WORKERS. IF YOU ARE IN MONTEREY CHECK OUT THE BEST WESTERN JUST UP THE STREET. NOW THAT'S A NICE PLACE TO STAY AND WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY YOU PAY FOR IT

I have been staying at the otter for over 5 years. I read the reviews below and seriously question if these people stayed at the same place. I find it hard to believe that anyone would have 2 rooms for 2 nights and hate the hotel so much that they wouldn't ask for their money back. I love the otter, great location, great staff, and a good buy for your money. I decided to post this because 75% that are upset about their stay will go out of their way to post a bad review only 10& who loved their stay will post a positive.

We left after one night, and didn't even ask for our refund for the second. We were just glad to leave! Dirty, rundown, out-of-date, crummy place. Packaged crackers are not what I call a "continental breakfast!" We put chairs under the door knobs for safety, and heard suspicious "rustling" noises in the night after the lights were off. We had two rooms. It was so bad, we laughed ourselves silly on the way out at the absurdity of this place!

The Otter Inn was one of the worst hotels that we have ever stayed in,The room smelled,the decor was terrible,outdated, nothing matched,looked like they got their bedspread from a thrift store,The rooms seemed dirty,will never stay here again!! And for the amount of money,clearly overpriced, the location is the only plus,walking distance to Cannery Row.Stay elswhere!!Alot of better accomadations nearby.

Kids love the queen beds and large TV; I like the hot tub; free parking; walk to aquarium and other sights of Cannery Row; best deal for the location

I have never seen such a horrible place. I reserved my room based on the fact that I had a king size bed and a Jacuzzi tub. When I called, I asked for a king size bed. When we arrived we got a king size bed. The room stunk, the "fireplace" was a box with fake flames and a "heater" on top that did not work. The other heater looked like it was from the 1940's and had not been maintained in who knows how long. When I called and asked if the "fireplace" heater was suppose to work she said she would have someone come up and fix it, but maintenance was not there. I asked if they had other rooms and I was told they could move us to a room with two queen size beds. We moved to another "non-smoking" room and it smelled like an ashtray. I was then told that I was upgraded to a king size room when I asked if they had anyother king size rooms. The Manager was incredible rude and very unprofessional. I would never recommend this place to anyone!!!!!!!!!!
