We are going back again
By Clifford, 06/01/09
My wife and I stayed on the Delta King for 4 nights. My friends daughter that I had known since she was a little girl was getting married on the boat on a Sunday and we checked in on the friday before the wedding with most of the wedding Party. That friday we went to the Murder Mestery Dinner on the boat and had a great time. While the rooms are small, the charm and history of the boat made you forget all of that. If you want to have all of the ammenities of a 5 star hotel, this is not the place for you, but if you want to have a good time and take in the history of the Delta King and old town Sacramento which is right across the street, then by all means this is the place for you. The staff was friendly and helpfull, and the breakfest in the Captains Room was very good and at resonable prices. The boat was restored after sinking and being raised. It was originally used as a comutter ship from Sacramento to San Francisco and back (a twelve hour trip each way) so the rooms were no set up like a cruise ship. Being a carpenter and having restored wood boats in the past, this was a great experience for me checking out all of exceptional wood restoration that the ship has to offer. When my wife and I had breakfest one morning, overlooking the Sacramento river in the dining room, it was as though we had taken a step back in history. After having read some of the negative reviews, I just think that there are some people that will never be happy and look at what is wrong rather then taking in the charm of the bigger picture. Just my thoughts on the subject. We are going back again with some friends, however we are going to reserve the 2 bedroom suite. If you can stay mid-week the rates are cheaper, but the rates that were qoated when we stayed, unlike some of the other reviewers statements, were the rates that we were charged. Have fun, enjoy life, and complaine less, you will be a lot happier.

We had a very nice time!
By Carol B, 02/19/08
We got there and were greated by a very friendly valet who told us excatly where to check in. The desk staff were very nice and helpful. Our room, although small, was clean and really kind of interesting. The furnishings looked true to the period and the fixtures in the bathroom were definatly old! The hot and cold water were seperate and the hot water was HOT!(Hint: Use the plug). We went to the Suspects Murder Show and had a blast! Dinner was very good! Salad was served and the meyham began! Yes, it was a bit pricey, but it isn't something you do all the time and was a great expierence! Probally not the best place to stay with kids, but a great place for those looking for a romantic little get-away!

Avoid at all costs
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/15/08
The room was tiny. dusty, smelly, small, and low ceiling. We originally booked for 2 nights but we thought the hotel was so bad we did'nt even stay there. But they charged us for a night anyway. $150 down the drain. We ended up at a $115 a night new hotel off of I-80, it was a nice suite, we ended up staying for 2 nights and were so glad we did'nt stay on the boat.

Surprisingly Different
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/07
If you are used to boat stay you can expect the cabins to be small and cozy. For the price the rooms should have more to offer beside "View". Microwave and/or little refrigerator. Advertising is extremely off you should list pricing for each level of the rooms. One lady talks about "Bathtub" there are none unless she had a "Suite". Internet states from $90 and up. I called and got room for $199.00 on third level with riverfront view. What were the other rooms and aminities for? Not given your choices of rooms. $5 more could have stayed at Embasy Suites. Overpriced for Queen bed, 19 inch TV, iron/iron board; and shower only.

Will never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/21/07
First my online reservation said I was getting a river view room for a certain rate, when I got there it was $10.00 higher, but I could have a city view room for that rate, which I took. The first night I was there the front desk was robbed at gun point and the police were knocking on my door at 1:45AM. This is no fault of the the hotel, but it did make me a bit uneasy especially being a woman alone at the hotel. The room was small and the bathroom even smaller with only a shower. It was interesting, but I will not go back. I wore a pair of white socks one evening for about 10 minutes in the room and they were black on the bottom when I took them off. The carpet obviously was filthy.

fabulous find!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/23/07
So unique...an 80-year old wooden boat on the river! Very customer service oriented. Restaurant is super. The rooms aren't very big but they are a lot bigger than you would get on any other boat for the price!

Not what i expected!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/02/07
I took my husband here as a surprise for his birthday. As soon as we walked into the room we pretty much ran into the bed. The room was super small we kept bumping into each other, the bed was not a queen bed our shower was dirty and we heard eveyone talking and walking by. I guess our room was one that was not restored because the tables that the lamps were on were old and the paint was chipping away. Our TV was 20 inch screen resting on a itti bitty coffee table. When we peaked at the other rooms they were a little larger and nicer. And when I asked the clerk if we had been placed in a stateroom she said "all of my rooms are called staterooms" The only good part about this whole experience was the Murder suspect dinner. I will not return for the hotel and I dont recommend it to anyone.

Fun place to stay in Old Town Sacramento
By Tim B, 11/20/06
I have stayed on the Delta King on five different occasions. The boat is nice piece of history and is in a good location for checking out 'Old Town'. There is quite a variation in the size of the rooms with the smaller ones being extra cozy. On my last visit, there was a problem with the heating system in both my original room and the one to which I was transferred. The service from the staff was very good and mostly friendly. I understand there has been a recent management change and I think the staff were a little on edge. The beds have been comfortable. The location is not very quiet since it's a 'touristy' spot, subject to some partying, etc. but it wasn't bad during my most recent visits. I also chose this hotel because I could walk to our downtown Sacramento office. The wireless interenet connection was a gamble - worked in one room, not at all in the other.

Yahoo's problem
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/27/06
Delta King doesn't fake the rates-don't be a YAHOO! I stayed at The delta King and had a ball. You want Motel 6 rates then there you go!
