The Balboa Bay Club and Resort, Newport Beach

I have traveled A LOT and have stayed in more hotels than I can count! I can honestly say that this is probably the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The views, the staff, the decor, the feel, the yummy beds, everything was perfect and I cannot wait to go back! I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone! The location of the resort is beautiful as well. It is right on the water and you get to see all of the boats and people watch. Also, it is only a 5 minute drive from Balboa or if you like shopping, it is very close to Fashion Island. My opinion,,,,,,PERFECTLY LOVELY!

Beautiful hotel- customer service horrible. Fire alarm 3am - false alarm - continued to go off every 2 minutes for 3 hours - no apology or explanation when questioned. Room service - no response when called twice on a Sat. nite. Manager of "Dukes" no other way to describe him but a "bully". Manager Ok'd large party with children in the bar/restaurant for Sunday nite buffet but after spent approx $900 on food and drinks informed us kids had to leave. Multiple attempts to resolve issues with both Front desk manager and President of resort yielded one canned response from the front desk manager with promise of follow up that did not happen. President has letter of committment in all guest rooms stating he wants to assure all guest expectations are met, and wants to be contacted - multiple e-mails - no reponse. Extremely disappointing, expensive 5 nite stay !!!

The service was excellent. Rooms were very nice. My only complaint was our room faced the street. I would definitely recommend and stay there again.

It sounds so sophisticated in the internet, but wait till you get in there. I just want & tried their restaurant; the prize is way average for the menu I ordered. The taste is just average. The waitress service is slower than I expected, there's not that much customer when I went there. I waited for my food 1 hour.I was looking forward to eat and enjoy the view, but to my disappointment, my "ocean view" is blocked with this gigantic yachts.

the hotel was great. the room had a leak from the a/c on the roof in to our room. i had a fit. i went to the manger and told the problum and he said he will give me my money back.

After four visits, (including two before the big rebuild) we have never been dissatisfied with the accommodation or service at this one-off hotel. The waterfront location is special but a little confusing as to what is included in the package and what is part of the no-go club premises; meaning that most entertainment other than eating/drinking is off the premises requiring getting the valetted car out every time. Do you want to see the Beach? Enjoy Good food, GOOD music and Nice People All in the Most Beautiful Place in the world !Then Go to Balboa Beach and Peninsula. I lived there for 2 years they were the BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE!!! EVERY THING FROM A TO Z ALL IN ONE AREA!!! YOU CAN SHOP WHERE THE MOVIE STARS SHOP AND EAT AT SOME OF THE PLACES THEY EAT AT!!! SURF THE WAVES OR LEARN HOW BY LOCALS THAT ARE THE BEST!!! SIT BACK AND WATCH THE SUN SIT OR ENJOY THE NIGHT LIFE THAT IS SECOND TO NONE!!! SHOP SMALL LOCAL MERCHANTS TO FIND THOSE ONE OF A KIND PRIZES THAT JUST CANT BE BEAT OR SHOP AT FASHION ISLAND FOR AN EXPERIENCE OF A LIFE TIME!!! BALBOA IS A SMALL COMMUNAL OF THE GREATER L.A. AREA BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME FEEL TO IT!!! IT STANDS ALL BY ITS SELF AS GREATNESS!!! YOU MUST SEE IT TO BELEIVE!!!

The location of this hotel is perhaps not ideal for beach goers. While they do call themselves a "resort", i really didn't see anything that would give them such a qualification. The staff was for the most part helpful, the rooms were gorgeous, the views, well unless if your paying 600$, they are not great. The hotel is relatively small to call it a resort. The atmosphere was full of OLD white republican folks with golf shorts, and the restaurants were not as good as i heard. Try staying at the HYATT in Huntington Beach, it is much BIGGER, closer to the beach (across the street), friendlier, and less expensive and its less than a mile away!

This Hotel is gorgeous! Rooms are terrific and location is really nice.... BUT... This is a "BAYFRONT" hotel NOT "OCEANFRONT". That means the water is not the cleanest (to put it mildly). I've been here dozens of times for a variety of functions and the property is great, but you could not pay me to go into the Newport Bay to swim. You will need to drive to the Newport peninsula (the nearest beach) for the ocean. The peninsula is very close (1-2 miles) but parking there is very, very, VERY bad during the summer (unless you get there before about 10 AM weekdays 9 AM on weekends). The comparable class of "beachfront" hotels in Orange County are The Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel, Huntington Beach Hyatt, and the Montage in Laguna Beach.
