NOT how we thought it would be.

First, let me say that the Bel Air has an amazing VIEW and the hotel is even beautiful- BUT the service was absolutely horrible for us.
We were really interested in the swim up bar, only to find out that EVERY single day, the bartender comes about every 30 minutes or so, stays for about 15 minutes to fix SOME people drinks, then leave for another 20-30 minutes again. This happens all day long. The way it was with us, we would get around 1 drink per hour. And if you asked for another drink, they acted like it was an annoyance to them. It was horrible. I guess thats how they make the money off of the "all inclusive"
Luckily I can speak some spanish, but if I wasnt there with my family I dont see how they wouldve been able to communiate with the staff. We were the only Americans there inclunding staff & guests. We had no clue that it was just a full out mexican hotel because a lot of places in Cancun have American workers & guests as well.
The "4 or 5" restaurants they talk about that they have- is just one restaurant. They have a 6-7 seater "sushi restaurant" in the hotel as well. We never went to that.
Also, it seems as if theres always someone trying to screw you out of money there. We had to go to some timeshare crap (because if we didnt go we would "lose" our stay) and the 90 minute session was actually 5 hours. 5 HOURS! Then when we got back people in the hotel were again trying to sell us scuba-diving, snoreling trips, etc that we WEREN'T interested in, but they could not understand the word "no" i guess. Those trips might have been an option for us, but by the 2nd day there we were so stressed that it actually didnt even seem like a vacation anymore.
Oh and the last day they tried pulling some crap that we did not sign a $40 tab a few days before, and if we didnt pay it then it would come out of the waiter's pay. We remembered signing it and the whole ordeal was just kind of odd & shady. Only trying to get more and more money from us.
Oh- and last but not least. After paying so much money for the room and all inclusive- we had to pay $100 per person for "taxes, tips, etc." But they told us that it was understood after we paid that we wouldnt have to pay ANYMORE- and if and when you went in the restaurants the waiters should know that tips are already included. Well within our first couple trips eating, the waiters acted mad when we didnt tip them, but i guess somewhere along the line they didnt understand that we had already paid $400 on tips.
HUGE waste of money. I definitely DO NOT recommend this hotel. I read these bad reviews before I left and thought maybe this trip would be different for us, but IT WASNT! So if you can get out of it, DO NOT GO TO BEL AIR.
