Nice but...
By MB, 7/30/11
Let me start by saying this is right in the middle of everything in South Haven. The location couldn't be better. We could walk to everything, including the beach, and nothing was more than a ten minute walk, or less. The view of the river from our room was fantastic! I could have spent both days just watching all the action out on the river. Here comes the but...what we really wanted was a room with a view AND a deck where we could sit and watch everything; what we got was a small step-out balcony where the chairs could only be set up facing each other. It looked to me as though the only way we could have gotten the deck we were looking for was if we had chosen a room on the middle level of some of the buildings, and then we would have had to share with random tourists who also have access to those same decks. Also, only one of the nice doors leading to the balconies was functional, so we couldn't even prop open the doors and sit in the room and look out. The room itself was nice enough, but there was only one comfortable chair in the place. The futon was torture after 20 minutes or so. The bed was comfortable and I loved the pillows (in most hotels I have to ask for more). We were given a different room from the one we reserved because the work being done to the room we reserved wasn't quite finished. Surprising, since I was told when making the reservation that all it needed to be complete was a new bed. I would have thought 2 weeks would have been long enough to replace the bed but apparently not. The room was clean when we got there, but the second day of our stay someone came in and took all the dirty towels, cleaned the kitchen sink (left the cleaner!) and then left, leaving the room door open! We tried calling the front office but never got an answer. Since nothing of ours seemed to be missing, we locked up again and went out hoping to give someone a chance to come back and finish cleaning. That never happened. We had to go to the office to get fresh towels and report what had happened. The other complaint I had about the room was the shower. My shoulders touched both the shower curtain and the opposite wall as I was standing under the shower! All they need to do to fix that is move the shower curtain out a few inches! Makes for an uncomfortable shower in the morning! The last thing I want to talk about is the parking. There are several town lots that you are free to park in but be prepared to drive around looking for a space for a while, especially later in the day. Again, the lots are not that far from the Old Harbor Inn, but it is difficult to find a spot. We enjoyed our stay in South Haven but would have no matter where we stayed. In our opinion we overpaid for what we got. If we had been able to access the deck like we hoped it wouldn't have been an issue. But just to be in the middle of the action? Way too overpriced!

We Love this place
By Tucker, 7/8/11
Over the years we have stayed here every time we go to South Haven. True it can be hard to find parking but we have always been lucky enough to park right outside. The Idler is right outside which is one of our favorite places to go. Everything is convenient and within walking distance. The noise never bothered us at all. Being on the Black River is awesome.

Great Location, nice room
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/27/10
Had a nice street view room. Liked the fact there was a separate area with a table & chairs, sofa & coffee table. Had been told that the noise from the bar can be loud, which is why we booked a street view room. But we were not told when inquiring about the inn, that there really is no parking for the inn. Had to use public lot a block away. But that turned out OK. I would go back. The location can't be beat, close to everything. Liked the large counter top in the bathroom. Plenty of space to lay toiletries out. Staff was very helpful when I inquired about the rooms, other than the fact that lack of parking was not mentioned.

Not worth it.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/3/10
We got a cute room overlooking the river. No one told us that it was above a riverboat that had outdoor seating till about 2 am. We checked out and went across the street on the third night because we could not sleep. Refunds were not given....lol....they said it was in their small print.

Our room was wonderful, the view was great. The reviews were correct. We did not get much sleep. Our windows and bed rocked all night. No warning was given.

Very loud and horrible sleep
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/16/09
The view in our room was gorgeous. The room was nice. No one mentioned the fact that the hotel is above 2 bars that stay open till 2am. The entire area did not clear of drunk college students till about 3 am. We could not sleep the entire weekend.

Don't judge a book by its cover.
By Natalie Scott, 2/24/09
Don't jude a book by its cover. That sums it up. The Inn is adorable from the outsideand the location was great. The service from the check in staff was poor. They were neglectful and very matter-of-fact. The room was not fresh and we found hair both on the toilet and tub. Sorry. We also had to return lost items from previous guests to lobby desk. The Inn needs a new housekeeping and frontdesk staff.

Wonderful place to stay
By Kathy Johnson '79, 8/21/08
My husband and I stayed for a few nights at the Old Harbor Inn and loved it! It is on the river and has decks so you can sit and watch the boats come in from the lake. It is right in the downtown area, so pubs, restaurants and Lake MI are within walking distance. Even though the pubs were close by, we didn't have any issues with noise. The room we stayed in was spacious and had a jacuzzi tub in the main area. It was a "downtown view" but you could see the river and boat traffic out the window. We and a group of our friends go to South Haven overnight in December and we will be recommending staying at the Old Harbor Inn!

Fabulous Vacation!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/10/08
Our stay at the Old Harbour Inn was as perfect as it could get! We had a streetside room which was easy to get to, the view overlooked the Harbor Village and we were so close to everything in town. I understand that some rooms were close to restaurant could be noisy but we commented how quiet our room was. Everyone else we spoke to loved thier room too. The staff was so friendly and added to the quantness of South Haven. Our room really felt more like a charming apartment than a hotle room. A few steps outside the door and we had multiple fabulous view of the water and we were walking distance to dozens of shops, restaurants, the light house and the beach. We started every morning with a walk to the beach (followed by a fudge shop where they served chocolate covered strawberrys, incredible raspberry cheese cake with melted white chocolate sauce and L.A. French Toast, YUUMM!) and finished each day with a walk to the light house to watch the sunset! So beautiful! And of course the Blue Berries were the best! The only thing I can think of the was slightly not perfect was that the pool was smallish but with the view it has and so close to the beach- who cares. Everytime we peaked in at the pool there were families having fun so it was big enough. We were only supposed to stay 3 nights but we just had to stay for one more- we were just having tooooo much fun. The staff made us feel very welcome. Old Harbor Inn - We will be back and I can hardly wait!

good location yet poor quality
By Kenny King, 6/24/08
It was a very good location. Bathroom was not up to standard. It was not clean. Had to leave and go across the street. The harbor was indeed noisey. Too bad cause the room was nice looking....the noise just topped it off
