Probably the best value in the St. Paul area
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/3/10
Convenient to I 694 and I 35E, many stores/restaurants near by. Good, adequate accomodation for most people. I would recomment it to travelers who have no need for a pool and who are looking for a reasonably priced place. Free breakfast is not "first class" but room rate does not justify anything more than what you get.

Clean, Friendly Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/13/10
We stay in maplewood once every year and they have done a good job on remodeling this place. It looks lot clean and the lobby is great. Free Wi-Fi and everything. Close to the mall and restaurants (walking distance). We would definately come back and stay here. Rates are great too.

Great value and very clean!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/15/09
I liked this place...I stayed here over the new years of 2008. It was beautiful and the location was great. As far as for the value, it was much better than most places in the area. Be careful though, the price changed daily though when I was there. I figured it was the holidays. If you're going to stay over a week get the weekly rates it's worth it. I recommend if you're going to stay there, ask for one of the 5 rooms that are on the right side of the buildings. (Right side assuming you're facing the front from the parking lot) They are much bigger and for the same price. The bathroom are much more spacious too. I stayed in both designs, I hated the smaller rooms. Has free wifi but the signal was a little weak overall. Hmmm...vending machines sucked so make sure you bring your own food. They do have a microwave and a frig so you won't have to worry about that. Also if you like baths, they have both baths and showers. Overall, I give it a 4 out of 5. This is the only place I stay when I travel to St. Paul.

We can't go back!
By Jeffrey W, 2/4/09
Stayed there twice while a relative flew in from out of state. The first time was before we took a drive to see relatives in another state - the shower leaked water and had no knob to turn it off; the heater blew cool air when we needed heat (it was 10 below zero outside that night) and the room didn't heat up by the time we came back from dinner so we requested a room change. The new room had a working shower but the heater blew marginally warm air and not much of an improvement there. The next time was when we returned from our two week trip before my relative flew home. We had a similar experience with the heat although the temperature was about 15 degrees ABOVE zero that night so it wasnt as bad to tolerate. This wouldn't be such a bad place with either a little bit of upkeep to warrant the price the high rate they charged, or a price reduction commensurate with the value - like $30 a night instead of $70. I've stayed at the Emerald Inn frequently over the past 20 years. Back in 1989 and 1990 it was a wonderful little nook with friendly staff, reasonable prices and great accomodations. It was always clean, everything worked and there were no complaints. The only good thing I like is the location is wonderful. It would be a hidden gem if the ownership only knew that. Today, it is practically falling apart and would not stay there again unless I am reassured a lot of changes are made.

Good place to stay
By Seph, 1/10/09
As far as the room was, some of the bathroom fixtures were old looking, but they were clean. I stayed here about a year ago, and since then they've remodeled the room and added a fridge and microwave, which is nice. As for service, I needed an extra few pillows and an extra bed for my buddy and they brought it right up. They also had free Wi-Fi and coffee 24/7. This is a nice location, within walking distance of the mall and the rock nightclub, for the price it's a good place to stay.

Location was excellent. Mall and restaurants nearby. Hotel was clean and couldn't find anything in the area for less than $60 except this place. It had everything we needed and it was cofortable.

I am a regular
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/22/08
Which says a lot. They now have WIFI.. but its not free. The first couple times I had minimal to no complaints. When I had an extended stay (10 days) I requested a microwave and frig, I received both. The cable for the TV's (the literal cable) always needs a good jiggle to get good reception, no matter the room. My last stay I changed rooms twice, once because my bathroom light was out, the other because the heater was broke, no discount for the late night inconvenience. If they were ten dollars less on a daily basis, and didn't raise the rate for weekends this place just might be worth the cost. They are the only place to stay around the northern part of Maplewood, their only saving grace I would say.

Overrated hotel
By Andrea, 1/4/08
The check-in lady was very rude, crabbing about the staff's competence right in front of us and whining about our request for extra towels. The rooms were freezing when we got there, freezing when we left...the heaters barely worked. The hallways were worse. The shower had the pressure of a light drizzle, which either froze you or scorched you. There was no happy medium. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place. The location may be great, but you'd be better off driving a little more than staying here.

Don't go to this hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/08
This is one of the worst hotels I have ever been to. The rooms were filthy, the toilet seat looked like it had been there for years and we couldn't even sit on it, there were several burn holes in the carpet, and absolutely NO customer service. The only good thing about this hotel was the location. I would not reccomend this hotel to anyone.
