Voucher, no room available ! Join the crowd
By ,
We had a paid voucher booking for the hotel through Wingz travel agent after confirming directly by phone that renovations had been completed (warning from websites). At Luxor airport we found we were moved to a lower star hotel with no explanation. On trawling around various Luxor hotels we found others from the Sheraton and reports of 25 angry groups at the Sheraton all complaining about overbooking at the Sheraton. Very unprofessional and I would strongly recommend avoiding the Luxor Sheraton and Wingz Holidays if possible. Bruce Hooper.

Not great at the moment
By ,
August 2006 The building work that is going on at the moment has reduced the facilities and range of services and the constant noise in very annoying. When comparing the hotel to those in the local area it is at a major disadvantage. There is no air-conditioned bar, poor evening entertainment and high prices compared to local hotels. I would not mind the prices if the facilities were of the high standards that other reviewers have experienced. Hopefully, when the work is completed and the hotel is back to normal, the standards of facilities etc will also improve.

Beware renovations!
By ,
Our agent told us that only the restaurant was being renovated but it turned out to be the whole ground floor. The Karnak restaurant has been relocated to a respectable enough room (although you have to go out of the hotel first to get to this room), but the Indian restaurant 'appears' by the pool in the evenings next to the bar area and the lobby/reception area is very small, dark and makeshift. The bungalow grounds are being dug up to lay pipes, and when we went to have a look at the floodlit tennis court it was in total darkness, and because of the digging, not a very pleasant or safe walk to reach the court. During the day there is a lot of banging and drilling so not a place to relax. There is nowhere to go in the evenings either unless you want to sit by the pool. The rooms were very tatty so I expect the renovations will continue upwards. Wait till the work is completed before booking this hotel - I'm sure it'll be wonderful when it is finished!

we may come back after renovations
By ,
we were not informed by our travel agent that there would be renovation works taken place when we arrived. this meant the karnak resaurant was closed, thelounge bar and the lobby / reception. there was nowhere to relax and enjoy a drink in the evening. workmen were hammering all day so we could not spend time in the apartment. we paid for a nile view, but the view from our balcony on the first floor was obscured by the wide roof of the (restaurant) overall for the price and amenities i would not class this hotel as a5 star

sunny egypt
By ,
i have been to the sheraton hotel twice and i am going back there to see my egyptian friends in september. the hotel is fantastic i love the country the people are so friendly the staff in the hotel put thereselves out for you they are fantastic the hotel is well spacious get a nile view room its worth paying that bit extra you can see the felucas sailing on the nile mind blowing. go up in the hot air balloon its amazing you have to be up by 4am so you can get coach to go in balloon you go up about 5am and when your up there you see children lying in there beds with no roofs on there houses waving up at you in the balloon f.a.n.t.a.s.t.i.c. Believe me!the valley of the kings is worth visiting so much to explore take a hat and a bottle of water gets very hot walking around. Also go to the egyptian night book through your rep they have a snake charmer and you get a galaber to dress up in. Also if you get the chance go to bannana island were they have loads of baby bannanas and meet mr lovely who owns the island he is so funny. You do get a lot of hassle in egypt but you have got to ignore them and keep walking they soon leave you alone. I would also recomend to go in a feluca its so relaxing. the food in the sheraton is lovely and the pool is also nice to relax i would give this hotel ten out of 10 go and see for yourself!there is not much night life so it would be no good for teenagers or young ones this is an exploring holiday so take a comfy pair of shoes or lounge by the pool the choice is yours.

We ARE going back!
By ,
This is the best hotel in Luxor. It's not as expensive as Movenpick, nor as famous as the Winter Palace. It doesn't have the largest swimming pool. And it is at the end of the road. But it has three excellent restaurants (including the only Indian restaurant in the town), superb views of the Nile and of the Theban Hills, and staff that have always been friendly, efficient, and caring for us as customers. Planning our fourth holiday in Luxor after a three year break, my wife said: "There's only one hotel for me - the Sheraton." The barside snacks are the best in the area. What's more, it is within easy reach of the other restaurants, hotels and visitor areas, whether you go by the hotel minibus, use the local buses, walk or sail. And if you are looking for a good boat and an exceptional crew, ask anyone along the Corniche for El Moussa. he's as straight as the sun's flight, he won't rip you off, you'll have an experienced English-speaking crew, and a great day - if you choose the full package. Oh - and do tell him Alan and Sylvia will see him next August!
