What a DUMP
By sherlini, 8/3/09
this hotel is very old, unsafe and staff rude. Thefts from the vehicles happens on the compound and the hotel says they are not responsible. This is so rude and irresponsible. I think someone should shut them down, or else someone might just sue them, big time.

Not Worth It
By nillava, 12/22/08
The women at the front desk were very nice. However, my entire stay was not worth the $162 that I had paid for the night. Around 9:21pm, I was on the phone trying to verify a new flight reservation, as my international flight into JFK had made me miss my domestic flight to SFO, therefore I was staying the night at the Ramada JFK. While on the phone, there was a knock at my door. As I was on my way, a man opens my hotel room door. He apologized and said he was doing a housekeeping check. Forgive my being direct, but isn't housekeeping supposed to keep records of this vs. a man opening doors? Next, at 10:38 pm, I'm brushing my teeth for bed, and a man knocks on my door. I open it with a toothbrush in my mouth and he says he's doing a "room check" and walks away. Again, isn't the front desk supposed to keep track of this vs. a man knocking on the door? Then, at 11:30pm, while I'm in bed half asleep, my room fills with cigarette smoke. I call to the front desk, and they say that I can change rooms. My room was supposed to be non-smoking as I'm a recovering cancer survivor and should not be exposed to carcinogens. I'm exhausted after already traveling from London and having missed my flight home, to SFO. So, I reluctantly get out of bed and go downstairs to try to do a room change. The line at the front desk had at least 20 people, so I find a man nearby and tell him that I came to change my room because it filled with smoke. His name is Richard Skippings. Richard takes me to the front desk. As we're waiting there, I started to explain to Richard the cause of the cigarette smoke, but he won't listen to me. He started talking to me like I'm trying to start trouble and I'm not accepting his help. Surely, he must not have understood what I'm trying to say, so I tried to explain again. He still treated me the same. I was upset and frustrated, as he did not seem to care or to understand. So I tried to tell him again that I thought it was an engineering problem, as the smoke is coming through the vent. He then walks away and says that I could help myself. I couldn't believe that. I worked at a hotel for 1.5 years, a 5 star hotel. That was horrible customer service from Richard Skippings, especially considering all I had been through. Also, at my old hotel, we cared about fixing problems. I also didn't want some other weary or distressed traveler to have to go through what I had gone through. In two trips, I moved my stuff (on my own) to my new room. Luckily, the new room was better. However, I needed to go downstairs to return my room key. I ended up sharing the elevator with Richard Skippings again. I had told him "it's my friend", as I turned to select the proper floor. I also said that I was trying to help, to explain and he wouldn't listen. He plugs his ears and mockingly crouches in the corner, saying that he "we get that problem all the time", like he knows what I'm going to say before I say it. If this is the case, why isn't the problem fixed? I must say that I was quite upset. He tells me "somebody's had an education", whatever that means. And I said that he was a "jerk". I have never, in my life received such rude behavior as a customer, nor have I ever called a total stranger a jerk. The next day, as I was boarding the Ramada shuttle to the airport, there were more people than there were seats on the shuttle. I did manage to cram in there, sitting on my carry-on. However, as we were about to leave, the driver had taken my suitcase out and put it on the curb! Luckily, I made sure it made it back on the shuttle. Next time, if I'm ever in the same situation, I will just opt to spend the night in the airport.

this was the worst hotel i'd ever stayed at
By Lea, 8/14/08
this hotel was pure garbage i couldn't even check in and pay cash for my room the check in hotel staff was extremeley rude and very unpleasant all but one person there she was the nicest person we met there but in general the hotel is garbage!! alot of people go there but they get bullied by the staff there!! the rooms don't get cleaned daily like most hotels do! there was an awful stinky smell constant near the factories in this place, it was pathetic i'll never go back to this hotel again! a lady i met there she told me and my husband that when she checked into a hotel room there were 2 people already checked into that room! i'd never heard anything like this in all my life! they don't offer free internet like they say online people must pay $1.00 for 5 minutes or use their credit cards to use the internet! even after we paid for our room they never registered us at check in, so our key we couldn't access too they almost put me and my husband on the streets because their computers had crashed for 4 solid days, all they kept saying at check in was "our computers were down!!" they tried to rip me off by nearly $100.00 more than the price i was quoted on the phone!! i don't recommend this hotel to anyone even the shuttle to this hotel was in bad condition no air conditionning it's always crowded all the time the staff at this hotel are all very unpleasant and very rude all the time and very hostile i wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone!!

What a DUMP!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/10/08
The worst hotel I every stayed at. Dirty and dingy rooms, lobby in dire need of remodel. Staff not very pleasant and restaurant outrageously high!!! Housekeeping does not even clean rooms on a daily basis, even if you call them, they don't come in and change beds, towels, etc. Do not stay there.

Mold and Mildew in the Rooms
By Chareese, 7/27/08
The Ramada Plaza JFK Airport was an awful experience. My friends and I checked into the Ramada for 4 days to attend a conference. The Ramada was the host hotel for the conference. When we walked into our room, the smell of mildew was evident that there was mold in the room. The room was damp. There was mold on the valance over the window. Two of my friends got ill. One of my friends woke up the next morning and could barely breathe. Another friend lost her voice. We did not check out the next morning because we had a long day with the conference. When we returned to the hotel at night, we were determined to check out. When I walked into the hotel lobby, it was filled with people. It was chaotic. I waited in line for 25 minutes until I realized that smoke had been reported on the sixth floor. No one from the hotel was sharing information. People kept jumping on the broken down elevator. Then the fire department arrived. No one evacuated the building it was crazy. We left to find another hotel, but all the airport hotels were booked due to flight cancellations. We had no choice but to stay another night. My friend with asthma had to sleep with a facemask because of her fear of having an asthma attack. We slept in that filthy room and woke up alive. We spoke with the manager but she said there was nothing she could do. We checked out immediately without any compensation.

Dirty Dump!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/1/08
The shuttle bus on the way to the hotel set my alarm bells ringing, there was no air con and it was dirty, but after an exhausting day of traveling with two toddlers and being refused a flight home by delta - who booked us into this dump, we decided to give it the benefit of doubt - how wrong! when we arrived there was queue to get checked in - this took nearly an hour - then we could only be allocated a smoking room as they said there was nothing else available - again we thought it was better than nothing; then when we got to the 3rd floor the smell nearly made me throw up - it smelt like a sewer mixed with old smoke. i was in tears, the place was discusting and that is the truth. when i went to make a phone call they said i needed to leave a $50 deposit at reception, so as my husband bathed the kids in the cold water in a dingy bathroom i left the room to go down to the reception. on my way to the lift i passed by a few rooms with the door opened and to my amazement saw that there was foods being kept in the rooms. it took half an hour to get to the reception as the queue of people waiting to get checked in was to the front door. as for Mosquito’s, there were millions around the hotel, inside and out!!! i could list another 100 reasons why i would never recommed this hotel to anyone, please under no circumstance ever stay at this kip, a barn truly would be better!!

Just awful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/28/07
Overpriced, dumpy, was recommended by American Airlines website ... says a lot about where AA is headed. Read the restaurant bills if you pay with a credit card ... tip is already on the bill but staff will keep mum present a credit card slip with space for additional tip. Avoid at any price.

Disgusting
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/07
I stayed there with my family. The room service was AWFUL! I paid $40 for a cold, burnt hamburger and a carafe of the cheapest box wine available. We stayed in a non-smoking room that was suddenly full of smoke from the people around us. The coffee machine did not work. This was without question the worst hotel experience of my life. i feel as if I was robbed of the $180 I paid for this "experience"! I would sooner sleep in the street than stay at this dump again.

WILL NEVER COME BACK
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/31/07
WE WAITED TO GET CHECKED IN FOR OVER 4 HOURS AND THEN NO APOLOGIZES WERE MADE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. MY FAMILY WAS TRAPPED IN THE ELEVATOR FOR OVER 45 MINUTES AND MANAGEMENT DID NOT WANT TO CALL THE RESCUE SQUAD TO HELP GET THEM OUT.

MY BACK ITCHED BECAUSE OF THE UNCLEAN BED! DO NOT STAY HERE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/24/07
The reason for my stay at this hotel was for a party function so I cannot rate the location and convenience from JFK airport. This hotel was not clean. The lobby is not an accurate representation of the rooms provided. I stayed on the 6th floor and one of the four bed legs was being held up by a piece of "wood." This was not a temporay fix to a broken bed leg since there was a hole at the top of the piece of wood to make sure the bed leg remained steady. The bed was not covered with a fitted sheet. The cleaning crew only used a flat sheet to cover the bare mattress. DISGUSTING. If you are a sleeper who moves around a lot in your sleep, you will wake up on a bare mattress. THE SHEETS AND MATRESS WERE NOT CLEAN. MY BACK KEPT ITCHING ME ALL NIGHT LONG. THIS IS IN ALL HONESTY. I KEPT SCRATCHING MY BACK. I DONT KNOW IF THE MATRESS HAD DUST MITES OR IF THE SHEETS WERE NOT CHANGED. I HAVE VERY SENSITIVE SKIN AND THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED TO ME AT ANY OTHER HOTEL. The ac/heat unit did not work and the room's smell had a smoker's smell. The walls looked old and the front desk staff was not the most friendly. I waited about 45 minutes to get checked in as there was a line out the door. The hotel also does not have vallet parking, which was extremly inconvenient since we had a car. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STAY HERE, PLEASE DONT. I am aware that a few of my family's friend who were staying at the hotel for this party function as well had a horrible experience too. If one person complains, it may be true. However, if more than one person complains, its true. IF YOU DONT HAVE TO STAY HERE, PLEASE DO NOT.
