Low on dough, give it a go!

When I first booked my stay with the Haddon Hall Hotel through a third party group called SpringBreakDirect.com, I thought I had made the best decision in my life. I went down to South Beach Miami for Spring Break 2006. Then I read the previous 7 reviews, and I became a little weary about the money I spent on the hotel.
Once my friends and I came to the hotel, we were surprised that we had to pay a $50 refundable depoit per person (because I was told before by the desk attendants that it was just $50 per room). Anyways, all 5 of us paid the money, and moved into the room. Like the other people stated, the one-on-one customer service was pretty poor, because the people spoke broken english.
Once we came into our room, which was a Junior Lanai Suite, that had a pull out, queen couch bed, a King size bed, a separate kitchen area that had a full refrigerator, a stove, and sink, and a full bathroom, we were pretty happy about our situation. Our situation was that we each paid $315/person for 7 nights, which calculated out to $225 per night (this cost was kind of high because of the third party company).
Throughout our stay, we saw that other people did not get as lucky as we did. Some people who paid for their hotel weeks in advance would come to check in only to find out that the hotel was overbooked and there was no way for them to stay in the hotel for their break. I also was able to see the regular double rooms, which were not that bad either. These rooms had two queen size beds, a small stove, a refrigerator, and a bathroom. The hallways in the main part of the hotel were dimly lit, but the hotel in general did have an older feel. Come to find out, the hotel is considered a historical landmark, and are not hassled by the state government to make sure the hotel is clean.
The location of the hotel was also great. As soon as you walk out of the front on Collins Ave., you are in the middle of everything. There are hotels, restaurants, and stores up and down the strip. Along with a nice bar called The Lost Weekend on Espanola Way, which is on the same block as the hotel (just around the corner). When you walk on to Washington Ave, which is parallel to Collins Ave. there is this club on the same block as the Haddon Hall, called CroBar, which is pretty nice. The inside of the club is something you would see in a movie.
In general, I enjoyed my stay at the Haddon Hall Hotel. To be honest, if I wanted to stay at the Haddon Hall again, I would go through a third party like springbreakdirect.com because they have more pull than just one person, in terms of booking rooms. I know if my frineds and I went directly through the hotel, there was a great chance that we would not of had a room. If you are on a budget, I would suggest hotels like The Clevelander (on Ocean Ave.), which is a hotel, a restaurant, club and a bar. I suggest hotels on Ocean Avenue, which is directly on the beach, and Collins Avenue. Don't bring the family to the Haddon Hall, this is more of a Spring Breaker spot (for 21 year olds).
