Never again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/26/09
My experience at the Haddon Hall was a diaster. Me and my friends came early hoping to check in, that absolutely didn't happen. There was no early check in, and everyone that was waiting to check in were sleep in the lobby. It was very old and a dirty. The toilet at the restaurant down the street was cleaning. Don't give this hotel a chance!!

a nightmare experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/24/07
it is a very nasty hotel. the room is very very dirty. the bed is dirty. the towels have hair and stains on them. air condition is old fashioned (mounted on wall), very dirty and loud. you have to be very careful with toilet. otherwise, it floods. the personels are totally not professional, rude and unresponsive. i would give it a minus 2 stars if possible.

The Shadiest Place on Earth
By n, 10/09/06
Seriously, I went as a college student on spring break. naturally, as you can imagine my standards for lodging were less than the average consumer. Even I, mr. bud light, passed-out-on-the-beach, need-a-place-to-hang-my-towel, was taken aback. First impressions are everthing right? it was late March and there was still a Christmas tree on full display. I think they were even proud of it. During the course of the week, I was offered drugs by the other "patrons," witnessed a gang fight at the pool, was unable to scale the perimeter to retrieve a football due to the prison-style barbed wire topping the wall, and robbed by a hobo when passed out by the pool (my camera and blanket were taken). So you, Mr. economy shopper, look elsewhere to take sally and little mike. But you, Mr. dope-fiend.... you've found home. (also recommended for college spring breaks. i had a blast, just don't expect much)

Low on dough, give it a go!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/13/06
When I first booked my stay with the Haddon Hall Hotel through a third party group called SpringBreakDirect.com, I thought I had made the best decision in my life. I went down to South Beach Miami for Spring Break 2006. Then I read the previous 7 reviews, and I became a little weary about the money I spent on the hotel. Once my friends and I came to the hotel, we were surprised that we had to pay a $50 refundable depoit per person (because I was told before by the desk attendants that it was just $50 per room). Anyways, all 5 of us paid the money, and moved into the room. Like the other people stated, the one-on-one customer service was pretty poor, because the people spoke broken english. Once we came into our room, which was a Junior Lanai Suite, that had a pull out, queen couch bed, a King size bed, a separate kitchen area that had a full refrigerator, a stove, and sink, and a full bathroom, we were pretty happy about our situation. Our situation was that we each paid $315/person for 7 nights, which calculated out to $225 per night (this cost was kind of high because of the third party company). Throughout our stay, we saw that other people did not get as lucky as we did. Some people who paid for their hotel weeks in advance would come to check in only to find out that the hotel was overbooked and there was no way for them to stay in the hotel for their break. I also was able to see the regular double rooms, which were not that bad either. These rooms had two queen size beds, a small stove, a refrigerator, and a bathroom. The hallways in the main part of the hotel were dimly lit, but the hotel in general did have an older feel. Come to find out, the hotel is considered a historical landmark, and are not hassled by the state government to make sure the hotel is clean. The location of the hotel was also great. As soon as you walk out of the front on Collins Ave., you are in the middle of everything. There are hotels, restaurants, and stores up and down the strip. Along with a nice bar called The Lost Weekend on Espanola Way, which is on the same block as the hotel (just around the corner). When you walk on to Washington Ave, which is parallel to Collins Ave. there is this club on the same block as the Haddon Hall, called CroBar, which is pretty nice. The inside of the club is something you would see in a movie. In general, I enjoyed my stay at the Haddon Hall Hotel. To be honest, if I wanted to stay at the Haddon Hall again, I would go through a third party like springbreakdirect.com because they have more pull than just one person, in terms of booking rooms. I know if my frineds and I went directly through the hotel, there was a great chance that we would not of had a room. If you are on a budget, I would suggest hotels like The Clevelander (on Ocean Ave.), which is a hotel, a restaurant, club and a bar. I suggest hotels on Ocean Avenue, which is directly on the beach, and Collins Avenue. Don't bring the family to the Haddon Hall, this is more of a Spring Breaker spot (for 21 year olds).

Dirty, smelly & unsanitary
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/30/06
The staff at Haddon Hall are simply unfriendly and not at all accomodating. There were no smiles or hellos as we checked in. Once we got into our hotel lobby we noticed unsanitary, old and stained carpets. The walls were stained and it just felt as if we were in a cheap run down motel. Once we got to our rooms we were assigned we noticed a do not disturb sign on our door. Still we managed to walk in only to discover that our beds were not made and the covers were all off. Immediately we called front desk and were assigned another room on a different floor. This room was not any better. The carpets were too dirty and stained. I did not walk on the carpets with my barefoot because I was scared to. The beds had worn out covers and my pillow had a stain. The bathrooms are old and dirty. Its just plain pathetic!!! The amount they charge for a night is ridiculous to what you are getting in return. Haddon Hall does not even provide parking for their guests so you have to find a public park. Don't plan on feeling safe when you walk in late at night either as their security is basically non existant. I am surprised that the hotel has not shut down due to unsanitary and unsafe conditions. I definitely do not recommend Haddon Hall hotel to anyone. Luckily we only had to spend one night there and my husband managed to find another hotel where we could stay. My recommendation is to stick to hotel chains you know rather than finding no namers like Haddon Hall because they have no standards.

Worst hotel ever: avoid it by any means possible
By Eduard_Chekmenev, 11/16/05
This was not my first stay at South Miami Beach. This is a bad hotel with one exception: its location - it is close to the beach and local restaurants. That's it. We did a check on this hotel as well as other hotels around 1500 block on Ocean drive. They all are really bad mismanaged places. So, we booked our stay with hotels.com at a relatively good place: Chesterfield Hotel. When we were arriving music was playing loud in the hall of the Chesterfield and we got really excited about our little vacation. When I got to the front desk, I was told that my reservation was transferred to Haddon Hall due to a hurricane Katrina (which was 1 month ago). Next morning we were told a different story that it was hotels.com who transferred us to Haddon Hall. In any case, we arrive to Haddon Hall and we quickly realize that a three star hotel does not offer any stars. To start with: every transaction is done manually, so it is very difficult to trace something down if necessary. Then there is a $50 deposit, which makes you think. We had our deposit back during checkout, which was lengthy (since they had to do a manual transaction with a credit card). We get to our room: smelly, small room. One may easily noticed that the floor is old and dirty. It is not sanitary to walk barefoot there. Everything was small there, including towels and beds as if it was designed to maximize profit rather than provide services. Everything had a sign, that is was worn off and was living a second or third life. There is no central A/C and a small A/C unit mounted in the wall did not have a thermo-regulator, so one has to choose either to sweat during the evening or freeze during the night. There is no complimentary breakfast or parking. If you want a place to sleep and do not care about the room at all, this is a place for you since you get a decent price. Other than that, pay more and stay somewhere else. Of course, our vacation was ruined since two of the people traveling with me barely could sleep in such a room. Once I got back home and I called hotels.com. They denied that they transferred me to Haddon Hall first and I had to fax them the security deposit transaction at Haddon Hall so that they can believe me. Once I faxed it they did not call me back. Instead they sent me $80 gift certificate for my troubles (1/3 of the price I paid for hotel), while I was trying to get the refund. It turned out that they sent a confirmation to Chesterfield hotel to do a transfer to a sister hotel with an upgrade. Chesterfield in turn moved us to Haddon Hall, which was not a sister hotel, but apparently it is cheaper for them to do it, so that they can profit and get money from naive tourists. The lessons of my story are the following: 1) Avoid third parties such as hotels.com at least in South Miami Beach. Pay more and get more from retailers. If choosing hotels.com get the room from a hotel chain rather than a small private one. 2) If dealing with places like hotels.com, then beware of my comments. If you end up in the situation like mine, this is scam and call them immediately to clear it up. 3) Avoid Haddon Hall hotel by any means. Parisian Hotel and Geneva in the same block are as bad as this one.

Pleasant stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/26/05
After reading some reviews, I was skeptical about this hotel. I had a great experience at Haddon Hall. The pool is beautiful, the staff were friendly and courteous. They didn't speak the best English which is why people may have found them stand-offish but they were nothing but gracious and pleasant. It was myself and a friend of mine (25 and 26 year old females), and I never felt unsafe. The worst I can say is that the room and bathroom were a bit small. I would totally recommend this to people like me, travelling on a budget.
