After 10 years away Im coming back.

My family started visiting Ridin Hy back in the mid 70's. We originally rented cabins near Lake George for a family reunion but looking for something more led us to Ridin Hy. We visited "The Ranch" on Columbus Day weekend every year but different family members also visited in the Summer and Winter. For 25 years our family reunion was the highlight of my year. From the time I was 5 years old until I was married and my wife pregnant with twins. After 10 years of family building, I am FINALLY bringing my children to the place I loved most as a child, teen and young adult. The fact that I am going back in November and writing about it now, in May, says something. I CANT WAIT.
I am the type of person that likes variety and prefers to explore new things rather than return to the same place over and over. I have Skiid in Lake Tahoe, Traveled the Pacific Coast Highway from SF to LA, I have been to Europe a few times, Disney, the Carribean and countless other places but NO OTHER PLACE ON EARTH has the same effect on me. Maybe I am partial because I spent so much time there as a kid or maybe because the group we went with (some years over 60 people) was so fun to be around. I dont know. I just know that I have just read all 77 reviews on here and the common theme in all of them is that people that go to Ridin Hy rarely go just one time.
I remember the old lodge, the one before the current one with the indoor pool, the temporary lodge at the bottom of the ski hill, and I remember when the "old motel units" were the nicest ones they had. The ranch has evolved over the years but some things never changed. The food is tasty and plentiful (and you cant beat the view from the dining room). The service is personal and friendly. The rooms are clean and the activities are endless.
Over the years I have fished, skiid, skated (on the tennis courts in winter), enjoyed boating (row, peddal and pontoon rides), swimming, riding, hiking, ping pong, tennis, softball, volley ball, archery, snow tubing. Rode quads, snow mobiles and even brought my own dirt bike and mountain bikes. At one time they even used to let the guests compete in barrel races at the rodeo (though I dont think they allow that anymore)
One advantage of going with a big group is that you can kind of take turns watching each others kids. If someone is going to the barn to see the animals you can send your kids with them, You want to go on the hike to the castle but your kids are too small someone else can watch them. I basically ran around this place by myself from the time I was 7 or 8 years old. I always caught up with my parents at meal times and even as a kid you know when meal times are because you see the people walking toward the lodge from every direction.
If you are looking for a safe, affordable, relaxing but not boring, family vacation this is the place.
