Cherotel Grand Mariner Hotel, Lake Jackson

I recently stayed at this property. I rented the larger "Jacuzzi Suite", which consisted of two rooms, one with a king bed, fridge, microwave and the other an old couch and a 2 person garden style corner tub. The tub was in good shape and the jets worked ok, so I was pleased with it. The room was clean and the bed a typical hotel bed. There was no functional desk/work area, and I noted a few lap top users in the bar. I was not on business, so I don't know if there was wireless/wired internet. Nothing was advertised anywhere. I rented on a Friday night, but there were not many people on the property. Unfortunately, my room door (an interior door as all are in this hotel) was facing the bar. Yes, the bar is in an open atrium. They had a piano 5 FEET FROM MY DOOR. That's right. I could read the pianist's sheet music through my peep-hole!!! They played til about 8 pm, at which time I was able to start hearing my television. I was promised he'd stop playing by 7.... That piano should not have been there at all. Sorry, you need a seperate bar for that, NOT A BAR OUTSIDE MY DOOR! Overall, the property felt old. And it smelt...like it had been flooded. Almost a moldy smell. The rooms have window unit A/Cs. Of course, you have to find a way to pin back the drapes to allow the air to enter the room or you'll be keep your window cool all night. There were no hotel information cards or booklets: nothing to tell you what the property had or offered. The desk told me 0 on check in. Ask about everything. Evidently, they had a breakfast bar which was not advertised to me until after I went to a local restaurant. There was only one working ice machine...of course, it was on the second floor. The staff didn't seem concerned about the piano issue. I spoke again to the front during checkout, but their attitude was more like "Well, we already got your money, so we don't really care". I did find out there was an ownership change in October 2011, so maybe there are some transitional issues still. There are numerous newer and/or cheaper properties in the Clute/Lake Jackson area. I believe this property USED to have a restaurant and room service, but they do not anymore. So, there is really no reason not to go to a newer, modern property like a Comfort Suites or a Hampton Inn in town. I will not stay again.

Nice clean room, quiet surroundings, great large entrance with comfortable seating. Excellent service by employees and helpful information given when needed. Will definitely return.

We stayed there as part of a wedding party planned months in advance, reservations made, and secured with a credit card. When the members of the wedding party checked in all of the reservations were wrong and the confirmation number ment nothing.

I like the entrance. The waterfall looks nice from the front. The front desk help are very sweet, but when it comes to making decisions all they can do is move you to another room.You really have to watch the bar tender, considering you are given a drink ticket (call drinks or beer)as a guest.She will see you sitting at the table and suggests expensive drinks. She brings them to you, then asks you to pay and, asks "Are you going to use your drink tickets tonight?" The free breakfast is not too bad if you like eggs, bacon, and a pancake. There are no biscuits are toast, and there is no juice for the kids unless you pay $2.00. The rooms are not clean at all & there are no cups for the coffee maker. Why have a coffee maker if you can't drink it in a cup.

At our recent N.A. Convention I had the pleasure staying at the hotel. Walking through the front doors I was greeted with smiling faces and a beautiful view of the waterfall that sits in the middle of the hotel. Everyone involved with the N.A. Convention had rooms at the hotel-so the staff was busy checking everyone in. They still took the time to assist every person with directions, suggestions, and any items they needed. Most would not have taken the extra steps that they did. Being involved with N.A. I do travel around the states to attend meetings, I would say that this hotel is on my top 10 list of favorites. To be in a small town-this place has some quality staff and personalities. My room was a nice size. Breakfast was good. The hotel itself is not one of the newer ones on the highway but, you are not going to find better people to help you. Only thing that I can even say that was not a "positive" was the older style of room decor. If you want to stay at a nice comfortable place, this is the hotel to stay at, if you want "art deco" go to another hotel. It is just a clean, comfortable, helpful, and quite hotel. I can't say really anything negative about it. Congrats to the manager-you have a nice place and a well trained staff. Everyone was very friendly there.

When I arrived at the hotel I was shocked at how the front desk clerk was dressed or shall I say under dressed. I was truly shocked that a nice hotel would staff such scantly dressed worker until the manager (i think she was the manager) came from one of the back rooms. I felt I had just walked into to a gentleman's club. I should have trusted my 1st instincts and walked out, but I didn't. I took my key and went to my room. The A/C was broken, so i was given another room. About an hour in the room, I found that the toilet in the 2nd room was broken. I was then given another room where, unforetuneatley the room smelt like someone had just gotten sick in it. I should have just asked for a refund and left but I didn't. I received a 4th room which finally everything worked and it didn't smell. I decided to walk around, while walking around I felt like I being watched, I was I was being watched by a security guard highered by the hotel I guess. Now I was getting a little worried. So I quickly returned to my room. The next morning I went to the restaurant, I was quite impressed by the buffet meal and not a continental breakfast. I believe you are trying to get a class of people in your establishment it starts by the ones that are face to face with your customers. Then you really need to make sure everything works in a room prior to giving a key.

I enjoy coming here. The front desk staff are very polite and helpful. The housekeeping also keeps the rooms very clean. The two lady managers go above and beyond to help get issues resolved. I recomend this place to all who need a nice friendly enviornment w/polite front desk staff. Who ever does the training there must be an awsome employee and knows how to keep the front desk in line. I was not going to stay there, but the price was in my budget so I went ahead and made reservations even though I read these reviews. When I arrived...WOW I was amazed. This place is really nice. The people who work there are great. I got a free drink when I checked in...I needed it after driving in Houston! But the rooms are really nice. The bed was great, and the room had everything in it. TV was old, but I had a fridge and microwave, coffee pot, real towels, blow dryer and more than one pillow on my bed! (4) of them!!! There is a good place to eat there. It is like a bar but I did see kids in there. It was very clean and BEAUTIFUL inside where the waterfall is. I did not swim but the lady at the desk said there was a heated pool. I am really happy I stayed there. I think it is a really friendly place and everyone there made me feel welcome.

The hotel staff was kind of friendly. That's about it. I booked this hotel for an overnight stay on business. Thank God my family wasn't with me! The hotel was undergoing some type of renovation, but short of tearing it down and rebuilding a new hotel, I can't see where it will be any better. The huge lobby was dank and smelled of mildew and stale cigerettes. The room made me wish I had brought latex gloves so I wouldn't have to touch anything. The towels were dark green, who knows if they were stained. The furniture was scuffed, the A/C unit was loud, the TV had a poor picture and the dark blue carpet made it hard to tell if it was clean. The hotel backed up to a seedy looking apartment complex that had loud music coming from it. I was concerned my car was going to get broken into. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone with the exception of single guys looking for cheap accomidations.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for my friend's wedding party. When we first arrived, there were numerous amounts of room service plates left out of the hotel rooms which is understandable, but not when we left two hours later to go to the wedding and they were still there. When we came back to our room, it smelled like smoke and was very humid. At the receptition the bride asked why it was so hot and they informed her that the AC had been "simi" broken for the past 3 days. The front desk attendants were very nice and the room was clean, but I will not be going back anytime soon.
