Very disappointing experience
By PAUL, 8/2/10
Upon arrival we were told that they would not be able to honor the rate that had been confirmed a month earlier via email due to long term guest having decided to stay over. We were told that the only room available was a larger more expensive rate.

Not worthy of the price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/14/09
The best thing is the location. They give you 24/7 shuttle service to the Huntington Metro station, which is really the best way to get around. Based on this stay and one at another Hampton on the same trip, I think Hampton Inns have slipped considerably from when I last stayed at them. The breakfast is good, but not great because they give you two hot options, rather than the full, choice of waffle batter, etc. We had a bit of a cleanliness issue at first. We were able to resolve it, but still it should not have happened, certainly not for a room that was $260 a night. Everything you might need as far as retail stores and common restaurants is a short drive. I would stay here agin, but not unless I could negotiate a way better rate since I now know what to expect from this hotel.

Love this hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/16/09
We had never stayed in a Hawthorn before and we found this to be the best hotel ever. Not only did we get breakfast, but dinner as well. The courtesy van took us where we wanted to go. The staff was professional and very nice. Our room was much like an apartment. We had more space than we needed. What a value. We're planning to find other Hawthorn Suites on ournext vacation.

NO REASONS TO COMPLAIN - FROM A SAVVY TRAVELER!
By DD, 10/6/08
I travel over 200 days a year with my job and I am in heaven everytime that I stay at the Hawthorne Suites in Alexandria. It is in close proximity to my place of business and to all of the DC nightlife has to offer. The rooms are huge (about the size of a 1 bedroom apartment), linen and fixtures top of the line, the managers reception is a great value and the free internet allows me to work...just as I need to be doing now. The billing has been done perfectly everytime and the bubbly staff is a nice addition.

Best value in DC area!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/14/08
It is the best place we have stayed in the last several years under $275/night. (We paid $145 plus taxes per night, AAA rate, 2 adults, 1 child.) Recently remodeled and very clean. Free internet. Staff friendly and helpful. Convenient location, right by 395 expressway, 10 minutes from Pentagon. Free parking, and free shuttle to Metro station. Large 46" HD flat screen TV in room gets 70 channels. Room included very comfortable king size bed, and complete kitchenette (stove, dishwasher, sink, refrigerator, microwave, tableware, cookwear, the works), also iron and board, hairdryer. Outdoor pool is nice, but shallow part is 4 1/2 feet deep, so small children must be swimmers or accompanied by adult. No restaurant on site. Very adequate free breakfast available (eggs, potatoes, both hot and dry cereal, donuts, bagels, muffins, toast, pancakes/syrup, juice, yogurt, coffee/tea, milk). Also during the week a free (but modest) dinner buffet for guests: We stayed two nights, when menu was fried chicken, fries and salad one night; and meatloaf and gravy, mashed potatoes, and salad the next. One night is free pizza. Will definitely try to stay there on our next trip to DC area. A totally non-smoking hotel (loved it!!)

Great Hotel
By Lori, 2/17/08
I have to say... the bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in at any hotel I've ever stayed!! I travel a lot with my company and have stayed at many hotels from 3-5 star and this hotel has it all!! Hands Down!! I travel to the area weekly and will be back!!They also had a complimentary Omelet station over the weekend that was a very nice touch!! I couldn't believe that everything from grocery service, shuttle, food and beer and wine came with the room. I'll be back!

Excellent!!!
By Lori, 1/1/08
I was amazed at this beautiful and comfortable hotel!! I must admit, after reading the comments below I was a little leary however my company only uses this hotel therefore I had no option. Let me say... I'm glad I did! This hotel was amazing! The staff made me feel like I was a part of the family, the free beer and food social at night was PERFECT after my long days at work! They even played Trivia persuit which was a blast! I didn't win but it was fun laughing and interacting with the other guests having fun. I will be back and wanted to let everyone know, I don't know what the other comments were referring to but they were so wrong! Thanks Hawthorn you made a believer out of me!! John

What a change! This hotel is very nice now
By TT Newton, 12/13/07
I stayed at this hotel last summer on a project for work. The client picked the hotel and it was not my favorite. I was not looking forward to this return trip, however I was delighted to see how the hotel has changed. It is not anything like the last time. Even though it was a work trip I enjoyed the stay. The hotel was comfortable, spotless and new. Everything is new, the rooms, the beds (I wanted to take the bed home)the carpet, bathroom, the furniture. The lobby lounge area is hip and trendy yet comfortable for hanging out with a beer after work and munching on the light dinner. My colleagues and I had quite a game of cards going one night. Even the staff seems to have improved. I was greeted by name and they even welcomed me back. They remembered that I was allergic to feather pillows. They have added a fitness room which seemed good it had nice new work out machines( I did not use them). There is a business center, Free WIFI everywhere and a little market for food/snack and items you forgot(I forgot my toothbrush). My favorite part was breakfast. Hot breakfast with many choices including coffee all day, yogurt and fruit. Plus I found out that I can get Hyatt gold passport points. Don't be scared off by the old reviews this is not the same hotel. I am looking forward to follow up meeting in Alexandria. I may bring the kids and do DC.

Do NOT stay at Here!
I recommend you do NOT book at the Hawthorne Suites Alexandria or you will be sorry. There is currently NO/NO restaurant facilities as they are undergoing a renovation. They recently were using 2 rooms as a temporary dining room. Unfortunately, they didn't have a license to do that, (unofficially heard this) and the local authorities found out. Now, breakfast has been cancelled. And, instead of the promised food on the daily menu they offered only cold pizza tonight as they can't cook on premises anymore. My room was filthy dirty with major stains throughout, and many dead bugs visable. The maid continually would remove items from my room without replacing them. The elevator shaft continually makes loud noises like a jackhammer/drill. The hotel rooms are very noisy no matter where you are. .the I-395 highway in the front and busy Van Dorn Street in the back. There also was a problem with water pressure in the room. The room was very worn out, old, and lighting was bad. There also were some bad smells in the hotel. Management has a real attitude problem. Overall, a horrible value. I would rate the Hawthorne Suites Alexandria 10 steps below the worst motel you've ever stayed at.
