Very sad and disappointed....

We have been staying at Tiny Town for over 30 years. It was owned by a family until a few years ago when it was purchased by Trout Haven. The cabins were never fancy, but were always neat, clean and well stocked.
This was our first visit since the family sold Tiny Town. The cabins were run by a husband and wife who took great pride in keeping the place in good shape. It was such a disappointment to see what has happened to these cabins since Trout Haven has taken them over. The first thing we noticed was that there is now a tree that has practically grown through the roof of our cabin. It is pushing the roof away from the base of the cabin. All it would take was a little pruning to take care of something that will destroy the cabin if let go.
The furnishings in the cabin are the same they have been for over 25 years. It sure could stand a refurbishing. We have cooked many meals for our family in the years we have stayed there. Not time time! The fridge was not clean. There was sticky stuff all over the shelves and there were bags of something (?) left in the freezer. I did not open them to see what was in them. The drawer containing the silverware was not clean either. It made us uneasy and we washed each piece of flatware before we used it. I did use the toaster once and it burned the bread on one side while doing nothing to the other side. There used to be an abundance of plates, glasses and cooking utensils. The place is now very poorly stocked with these things.
Over all, I was very unhappy with the cleanliness of the cabin. As I said before, it was alway very basic in the past, but I always felt that it was as clean as it could be. On this trip, the tops of the tables were dusted, but the shelves and legs were so covered in dust that you could write your initials. It was like someone gave the tops a quick dusting, but did not go to any trouble to really clean further. I put something on a window will only to find that the sill was thick with dust as was the mantle of the fireplace.
There were no bedside tables in the bedroom. I picked up a small table in the living room to use beside the bed. The top of the table came off in my hands and the bottom fell to the floor.
The temperature got below freezing during our stay. There is only one wall heater in the cabin in the living room. The bedroom, kitchen and bathroom were absolutely freezing cold until the sun came up and warmed the place. There was only one tiny roll of toilet paper in the bathroom and no soap. We made a trip to the corner store before we settled in.
We talked to some of the previous owners of these cabins during our stay. They say that the new owners basically are just going through the motions of trying to keep these older cabins open until the economy improves then they intend to tear them down and build more modern structures. The location along the river very near to the park entrance is good. There is a lot of acreage around these cabins. If they do tear them down, I am sure they will build many more than they now have and I guess it will be more profitable.
We have so many wonderful family memories from our stays at Tiny Town. It is a shame that the new owners are not even trying to do a decent job of upkeep until they rebuild. It was so sad to have to tell our friends and relatives that the place had changed so much.
