Reluctant about our stay
By ,
Always tell myself I will read reviews before booking and always forget. Really hoping we have a pleasant stay this coming weekend. By the sounds of some reviews I have read, sounds that if you appear to have money you will be treated better. Will make a point to give opinion after our stay.

Hotel in windy city blows
By ,
WHAT I LIKED: Most staff were friendly (maids, porters, waitstaff in Arcade level restaurant) but front desk people 'looked down their noses' & sniffed at the guests. Room was quiet & bed had hard matress (which I like). Full-sized refrigerator in room. Great location in city, just one block from Michigan Ave where the action is. WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: $48 per day parking fee. FORTY EIGHT DOLLARS TO PARK THE CAR!!! Carpet in room was old & needs replacement. Tiny lobby and no complimentary coffee nor daily newspaper. Dingy room lighting & unable to read in bed because of it. Having booked the 'breakfast package' = room & breakfast for 2 = $145 per night (plus tax), it breaks down to $22.50 per person for a skimpy couple eggs, strips of bacon, deep-fried potatoes, and coffee. TIP: Book the parking package = $145 per night includes the parking fee. You can find breakfast a block away for under $6 per person. It's one of the cheapest hotels located in the center of the city so for that you can't beat it. But be prepared to get what you pay for. Most Holiday Inn & Comfort Inn motels I've stayed at were far better than the acouterments offered by this run-down establishment.

going back
By ,
Okay so I was not overwhemling impressed but I send 50-60 nights a yer on the road. However my room was clean, it is chic shabby. This is an old apartment building so base everything on that. The furniture is comfortable beds were great. Was in town for a trade show had 8 associates in the suite after the show and had tons of room. Other than needing a little TLC I thought it was great for the price paid and given what it is I rate it highly. Within walkking distance of many things on the Mile.

you get what you pay for...
By ,
I don't know if its because I paid a cheap price on orbitz or what but this hotel is HORRIBLE. I state IS because I'm currently on my first night here. I had to call down because I could hear the entertainment from the bar at 11 on a Thursday night, THEN i discovered I didn't have noisy neighbors, but my room is next to the laundry/BREAKROOM!. I called (@ 2 in the morning - I'm currently awake) to see if I could change rooms and the front desk person stated, "I'll make a note of it and see." OH, and the sheets are so cheap, I have to lay one of my tee-shirts over my pillow because they are so rough on my face. DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL.

LOVED The Seneca!
By ,
My best friend and I stayed Aug 12 & 13 and had a very pleasant stay. The hotel had a lot of charm and a touch of class. We had a deluxe room with a queen bed (which I believe is the smallest room you can get) and it was plenty of space for us. We were blown away by the fact that we had a full kitchen! Regular size fridge, mini stove/oven, microwave, sink, electric can opener, toaster, utensils, cookware, everything! The bathroom was a little small but enough to move around, yet quaint. The shower was huge. One of the soaps they leave is an almond and oatmeal face and body bar which is amazing. (You'll love it ladies!) The bed was comfy and I loved the pillows. The only down side was there were some untouched areas (some cobwebs) and a few minor cosmetic problems and the carpet was bunched up some in a few spots. It's a great deal and you CAN NOT beat the location, right next to the Hancock Building and about 2 blocks east of Michigan Avenue. We'll definitely be staying there again when I'm up to Chicago!

Very Disappointed
By ,
This was our third stay at the Seneca Hotel. We stayed from 4/30/2008 to 5/3/2008 and was extremely disappointed with the following: Room was run down and dirty. We were stuck in the elevator for approx 10 minutes, which seemed longer. Not even an apology. Staff was rude with an I don't care attitude. We had a suite however neither TV worked. The color kept fading in and out. One Remote control didn't have a battery. Dining area was so small that the chairs didn't fit. Waited a very long time for bell hop to bring our luggage and we almost missed our train. We will NEVER stay their again! I do have to say "only" the doormen that greeted you were awesome and friendly.

Excellent Value... A Gem!
By ,
My husband and I recently stayed 3 nights at The Seneca. Great hotel, friendly, quick, and efficient staff. Our room was basically an apartment: large bedroom with a California King bed; bathroom; seperate living room/dinig combo; full kitchen; 2 walk-in closets. It felt homey, and it was in a great location. All of this for $85 a night (we were in the off-season though). The restaurant downstairs is good for breakfast, and the 200 Culb downstairs is nice for a drink and some bar snacks a little later at night. We would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommended!

Loved this hotel
By ,
This hotel is not a 4-star hotel but I was very impressed with the service and the room. My boyfriend and I booked a suite with a king-size bed and was very surprised to find that it was bigger than most apartments I've seen. We had a full kitchen stocked with dishes, fridge, microwave, stove, and dishwasher! A dining room, living room area, desk, and separate bedroom and bathroom. Also, 2 walkin closets and a coat closet. Not to mention, the location was absolutely excellent. There was a few drawbacks, the hotel is obviously a little weathered and could have used some updating in some areas but they try to keep it up as much as they could. The door was hard to open with the key provided, no easy security card access.

we'll be back
By ,
I have stayed at many hotels in Chicago and The Seneca is by far the best for the money. We had a beautiful room although it is a bit small but when you are in Chicago who cares! The staff was very helpful. It is also a very quiet hotel. It is so close to everything. We used CTA transportation and the staff was helpful with route info. After reading many of the negative reviews I wasn't quite sure what to expect but this is a great hotel. We will definately stay here again!

The place to stay in Chicago
This place was a real jewel! Kitchen in every room, plenty of closet space, helpful staff with good sense of humor. And the location can't be beat: between Lakeshore Drive and Michigan Avenue, and right across the street from Watertower Shopping Mall. Four sisters-in-law (I was one) stayed there for three nights, ate breakfast in the coffee shop daily, pestered the front desk for all sorts of information--which they gladly gave, and generally enjoyed ourselves. Remember the rule of real estate, which this hotel has in spades: Location, location, location! And so much more.
