WIRELESS INTERNET? Umm..... NOT HERE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/19/08
I've been to Unicoi Lodge many times. I love this lodge but the one time I brought my wireless computer to do some work I could never get a wireless connection. I asked the front desk clerk about it and she said no one could ever get a WIFI connection. She suggested I go up to the 2nd floor by the restaurant to get close to the router. I tried that but was unsuccessful. I emailed the Georgia State Park Service when I returned home but they did not respond. If you want to just get away from it all, Unicoi is the place to go. If you need internet services, choose someplace else. I definitely will go back to Unicoi but not when I need the internet.

Going back as soon as possible!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/07
We stayed there a few years back when my family was on vacation during Octoberfest and it an amazing experience. The rooms were very spacious and the staff was very courteous and willing to help. We also dined in their fabulous restaurant and everything was delicious and appetizing.

Amazing in the Mountains
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/07
My boyfriend and I decided that we would take a trip to the mountains on the spur of the moment. I called and a friendly woman answered and set us up quickly with a room for our arrival in 1.5 hours (we live in Atlanta). If you are looking for a lush, fancy-pants place to stay then this isn't your place: remember, it is a lodge at a state park and the rooms are cheap! We had a room with two double beds, it was the only option for the lodge. We went to Helen that night for dinner, ate at a cute Mexican place and then we back to the park for a drive. The park is beautiful, laying under the stars and being a way from the city was great for the night. For an escape in the woods, choose here!

we would definately stay there again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/10/07
we stayed at the unicoi lodge having tried everywhere else bt that was the only place with a room, we were given a reduction when they found out my husband was in a wheelchair, our room was spacious, clean, with plenty of towels etc, we particularly liked the soap etc being in a dispensor, which made it less messy, we had lunch there and what food was left was pretty good but we were rushed, I went to the gift shop while my husband finished eating and when I tried to go back to him was stopped by the cashiertelling me they had stopped serving, she was really annoying, I told her I had eaten and if she didn't mind I anted to get my husband who was in a wheelchair, she felt silly, that was the only problem we had and I have to say the food i the cheapest and most edible in Helen.

typical government inefficiency
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/08/07
The setting was great, which is not unusual for a state park. Everything else is mediocre at best, typical of a government run facility that has no incentive to be profitible: unmotivated service, sub-standard cleanliness, lack of updated features, etc. Product selection is uninspired from giftshop to food to wine was awful-cafeteria-style plonk. Accomodations were bland, with no flair, and cleanliness was below commercial standards for a resort. Without incentives of location and taxpayer funded goverment-booked worker retreats, I'd suspect this place would be out of business!

We are coming back, again and again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/06
Over the past five years, I have hosted four events for groups numbering from 75 to nearly 200. These events lasted five days each. Every aspect of the Unicoi Lodge was impeccable. While everything was clean and comfortable, the food was outstanding ! The service, particularly the restaurant wait staff, was absolutely fantastic. Many of the nearly 200 attendees reside north of the Mason-Dixon line, and even they were so happy with everything. Many of them are inviting their friends to our next event in April of 2007. I just cannot say enough nice things about Unicoi. Try it - you'll love it too !

Breakfast service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/19/05
We recently have breakfast at the lodge, and to say it was an experince is an understatement. There were 6 in our party, and the waitress asked if 2 tables would be ok. I asked if they would mind pushing the tables together, which I helped do. The food bar was nearly empty and to be honest it was 9:25, and they stopped serving breakfast at 10:00. I had finished my plate when the waitress came to get my plate and placed her fingers on the fork I was eating from. When the check was brought there was a 15% gratutity on all three tickets. My ticket was for my family of four, and two friends with us had seperate checks which were charged 15% a piece also. When I asked them why the gratutity charge, I was told it was because we were a party of six. When I disagreed with the waitress, she informed me she had been doing this a long time and was not wrong. The other waitress chimed in to say they did not over charge us,*that would be illegal*. If we were to ever return then I would certainly not ask for the tables to be pushed together so there would not be a party of 6 or more there and not be talked to like I was a brainless idiot.
