GREAT DEAL
By ,
The hotel is in an amazing location, just two blocks from the beach. The staff was very professional and accomodating to our needs. I definitely reccomend this hotel if you are looking for a good bargain. You are right next to beach but can avoid the hustle and bustle of waikiki's pedestrian traffic. Also, we were informed that the carpets are being changed within the next month. I will definitely be staying at ewa hotel on my next trip to hawaii!

This hotel has bed bugs
By ,
While the staff here were very nice, we were clearly lied to when we asked if they had ever had, or were currently experiencing a problem with bed bugs in the rooms. Bed bugs bit our children at this hotel. The location is beautiful, but the DO have BUGS.

Low Cost for Waikiki; Don't Expect Much
By ,
I'm not that picky when it comes to hotel rooms in Hawaii and will usually book the least expensive room in a decent location. This has worked well in the past, but was taken aback when I first saw the standard room at this hotel. It was on the small size, with dirty-looking carpet, and dirty-looking walls. The queen-sized bed took up about 1/3 of the total area aside from the bathroom section. The sheets and bedspread look/feel clean, and the bathroom also looked clean. Carpets are really off-putting, and must be 10 years old or more. Outside hallway carpet is the same, and is loose, with some edges held down with good old duct tape. Elevator feels unclean. Amenities are sparse. There is a small, dorm-room-sized refrigerator, 19" TV (I had to program the remote), armoire, two matching nightstands (one used for the TV stand), and a hairdryer. Bathroom is small with a tub and toilet just fitting with perhaps a phonebooth-sized space once the door is closed. Bath towels are tiny. No table to put things on so the top of the small fridge has to serve this purpose- or the top of the TV. The bed was quite comfortable though. Service was OK. Staff was nice enough. Glasses were never changed out; bathrooms were cleaned well (green stains in the toilet notwithstanding); and nothing was taken. Parking is an additional $10/day so make sure to factor that in. No in-room safe, but this could be because ours was just a standard room. There is a sundeck on the 8th floor, and coffee/tea and donut holes are served daily on the 2nd floor lounge area where there are also two computers for Internet access. I was only able to get a 11Mbps connection through the wireless- could not get a reliable connection on the sundeck. Location isn't bad if you don't mind walking a bit. Beach is close by, and the International Market is a 10 minute walk. The road it's on is more like a wide alley, but seems safe enough. All in all, I would likely not stay in this hotel again unless it was significantly less expensive than other options. Once over the initial disappointment, it is passable, but nothing to write home about! If you spend much time in your room, I would avoid this hotel.

If you don't care where you sleep..
By ,
.. than this is the place for you. I guess we got a good rate for a hotel that's a few blocks from the beach- around $100. I don't have anything positive to say about it. It's old, needs A LOT of remodeling to bring it to-date, and noisy. I wouldn't walk barefoot on the carpet as it looks pretty old and dirty. Good location but try to find a better place.

Don't go by other reviews. A very cheap hotel..
By ,
The biggest mistake I did was going by the other reviews posted here and booking this hotel. Infact I booked their deluxe studio expecting it to be decent. I wasn't expecting 4*, 5* comfort and just had some reasonable expecations. The hotel turned out to be very cheap looking, filthy at places (a very bad carpet that my wife won't let our kid down without the shoes), the occupancy is just for 2 (with 2 single beds that they call double beds) while it promised for 4, stinky corridors, just one person manning the front desk with a standard answer "manager not in town. come tomorrow sir". As another review says, only japanese stay in the hotel. With all due respect, probably it works out for them with their very moderate expectations/rates and adaptability I guess. But, in general for travelers looking for a decent hotel, this is definitely not the one. It spoils your hawaii vacation. I ended up staying here only 1 night, booked another hotel overnight (with the free internet, which is the only positive thing about the hotel I must say) and moved on. For this hotel's rates (around 100-125 a night), definitely the nearby resortquest hotel, renew hotel etc are better deals. Even better is booking a marriott or a hyatt thru priceline bidding for almost the same rates. Location wise, yes it is 2 blocks away from the beach, but the rooms absolutely have no view whatsoever. All you can see is the balconies of the surrounding hotels.

THE ALHOLA SPIRIT PREVAILS
By ,
We heard of this hotel from our son who convinced us to stay. The staff really do make this hotel work. Improvements to the outside and inside were in progress when we stayed. New beds were being installed and I understand painting and carpeting are on the menu for 2007. Great location makes this property ideal. Ideally priced and affordable for a long term stay. The extras like a paper with coffee and donut in the morning with the internet cafe available at a min. charge are great. We enjoyed this hotel so much that we have planned a return for a months stay. Dave and Marian Gallant

The perfect quiet, little hotel!
By ,
Not glitzy or fancy, this hotel was a perfect place to stay for us while attending a family wedding and vacationing. The service was friendly and efficient. The rooms are unpretentious, but just what you need to rest and sleep. And it's far enough away from the beach strip to be quiet, but within a very short walking distance. We'd go back.

Stayed here 3 different times; for two weeks; for one month; again for one month!
By ,
We are a married, retired, couple and we are "world travelers". This is a very good, budget hotel; it has the best prices anywhere in Waikiki. Though the hallways are a bit dim and most of the carpet probably should be replaced, we still think it is a decent place to stay. The room furnishings are somewhat outdated, but is sturdy and clean. The hotel staff is friendly and courteous. The maid service is every other day, so you don't get fresh new towels each day, but there is a washer & dryer on every other floor. I usually bring a couple towels from home. The rooms with two beds are fairly good sized; some of them have a small fridge, and a cooktop.(cooktop may, or may not, work) No microwaves, coffee makers, toasters, ricemakers, etc.are included. You can rent small appliances from the hotel. They charge $60 a month for a coffee maker. Don't know the daily charge. We went to Long's Drugstore and bought a coffee maker on sale for $12.00; we just left the coffee maker behind when we checked out after our one month stay at the hotel. Most of the rooms facing the street have lanais with a little table and two chairs; they are a little higher priced than the rooms without lanais. There is a nice Internet Cafe on the 2nd floor. There is a parking garage at the hotel that charges a nominal daily fee. The location is excellent; Kapiolani Park and Diamond Head are very nearby, Waikiki Beach just a couple of blocks. They have a nice rooftop terrace with lounge chairs and tables and a nice sunset view. There are many good restaurants nearby. We couldn't ask for more than what we get at this hotel, especially considering the price. We look forward to returning again and again.
