What a find!
My girlfriend and I just returned from out 1st vacation together - at the 1802 House in Kennebunkport, ME and it was perfect! The location of the inn was just close enough from town to easily access all the restaurants and shops and just distant enough (about a 3-minute drive from "downtown") to have complete peace and quiet (and a chance to see the stars at night). Everything about this B&B was first rate - the house was in impeccable condition, the breakfasts were wonderfully prepared, presented and varied during our three-night stay (blueberry pancakes from scratch, superb baked eggs with ham, chives and cheddar, and cinnamon french toast for the finale). Our hosts were friendly and informative providing us with maps, directions and recommendations throughout our stay.
We decided to make it a particularly memorable excursion by staying in the Sabago Suite, which featured a queen canopy bed, living room area with a full couch, electric fireplace and a jacuzzi room with a deck off of it to see the adjacent golf course (the deck was closed due to the weather). Additional features included a double-headed shower, heated bathroom floors, small tv/vcr combo and a stereo receiver which had speakers in both the living room and in the pool room. Having glanced at several of the other 5 rooms offered in the inn, we can say that each one of them had its own charm - some had wood-burning fire places, one had a window seat, and most had a jacuzzi bath in its bathroom- all immacuately maintained. Needless to say with these types of amenities, one might be inclined to skip the nearby sites altogether. Somehow we managed to enjoy some of the stellar nearby eateries (On the Marsh, Pier 77 and Alissons), as well as making our way to the beach and surrounding towns. It was always a pleasure to know that we would be returning at the end of the afternoon and evenings to our temporary abode at the 1802 House. We hope to spend more loving and romantic times together in this ideal hideaway from big city living. Highly recommeneded on all counts.
