Description

The Carroll Villa offers a wonderful combination of a grand, historic building with an unpretentious and creative atmosphere. Built in 1882 as a seaside escape for families, the Carroll Villa was built in the Italian villa or American bracketed villa style. The Carroll Villa is on the cover of the Cape May handbook as an architectural example of this style, which presents an imposing, sweeping porch, tall front windows, a symmetrical facade, and often a cupola, as does the Carroll Villa. The Carroll Villa is located in the heart of Cape May, the most southern resort in New Jersey, USA on historic Jackson Street, just half a block away from the beach and half a block away from the heart of the town, Washington Street Mall. Breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner are served on the European style front porch, garden terrace, and sky lit dining room. It is recommended by Frommers, Fodors, NY Times, and Philadelphia Inquirer. Best Brunch and Lunch New Jersey Monthly. The hotel and restaurant has also received the New Jerseys Governors award for being a state destination point. The hotel and restaurant is a great place to hold a wedding, rehearsal dinner, birthday or celebration. We are close to the nature preserves, lighthouse and US Coast Guard Base.

DO NOT STAY HERE: OVERPRICED AND TERRIBLE SERVICE
By Doug, 8/1/10
There are two sections of this place. There is the quaint, historic side, and then there is the "Annex." Both are the same price. Unfortunately, guests still have to pay top dollar for the "Annex." In my opinion, the halls are narrow, dingy, and you have to climb a lot of stairs to get there. The staff were not responsive to my complaints, and there was no owner/manager on duty on a Saturday during high season, which I think it unacceptable. When I finally spoke with the owner hours later, he called me "mean spirited." Regardless of how I behaved, when I'm paying $295/night to stay at this place, and the staff aren't helping me with my needs, I don't deserved to be called names. Our toilet just overflowed because it's an old building with terrible plumbing. There's fecal matter all over our bathroom, and it smells like a dump. Nevertheless, we're still paying $295/night. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!! Don't be a patsy like us. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU STAY HERE!!! YOU WILL PROBABLY GET BOOKED WITH THE "ANNEX," AND THE STAFF/OWNERS WILL NOT CARE!!!

Great relaxing time!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/27/06
WE had never been to Cape May before, so my husband had found this place online. We had a small room on the third floor, but it was clean, and we had our own bath. One drawback was the bathroom for the floor was across the hall, and it got quite a bit of activity the next morning. The room includes a gift certificate for breakfast in the Mad Batter restaraunt. The food and service was top notch. We had such a nice time we went back the following week. We will be returning with our family in June too.

I want to come back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/24/05
The Carrol Villa is a lovely place to stay, reasonably priced, and the gourmet breakfast is incredible! My favorite was the orange almond French Toast, but there are also salmon and swiss cheese omelets, and crab meat and gruyere omelets, and several other items I didn't get to try. Dinner came with a 30% discount if you stayed at the B&B - and that was also gourmet! Loved the filet mignon with delectable crab cake, and the white chocolate mousse and Irish Creme Broulee were to die for! I want to go back just for another meal on the canopied veranda, with the breeze blowing.

Great Value
By Virtualscouser, 8/8/04
We were looking for a place to stay in Cape May for 3 nights at the height of their season. The motels/hotels that did not have minimum night stays cost as much as the BnBs. We paid $170 for the lowest priced queen bed. We'd recommend this inn highly to anyone with the exception of someone who can't climb stairs (we were on the 3rd floor at the end of narrow stairs and hallways)

The location of the inn is perfect, a block away from the main shopping and the beach. The parking is pretty far and out of the way but it is guaranteed off-street parking. This was an inn and not a bnb, so personalized service was not necessary, but it could use some improvement. The room was very comfortable, good to have a personal a/c and fan. They had pump shower toilettries - ingeneous, cheep, and environmentally-friendly.

The breakfasts were excellent, great variety for all and new things to try like the seafood omletes. We were to take the ferry on the morning we checked out. We weren't able to book anything before the 9:30am ferry, which we had to be there an hour early for, which meant we'd be leaving when the restuarant was open. We did have to debate whether we would have enough time for a sit down breakfast or if we'd just have to ask for a basket and go since the parking was complicated (we had to bring our car over from the parking lot, load it up, and if we were going to stay for breakfast, park it at a meter or take it back to the lot and then bring back the parking pass). We had to wait about 20 minutes, but it was worth the wait for the big bag full of fruit breads and fresh fruit we were able to munch on for the day.

If we go back to Cape May again, this is definitely where we're staying!

The staff is great. The food at the mad batter is great, but pricey. I would love to come again and again.
