Owned and operated by a big wave surfer named Max, this hotel provides basic accommodations at incredibly low rates. During low season, you can get a one-bedroom unit with a kitchen for around $50 a night. If you're going with friends, it makes sense to get a one-bedroom, since up to four people can sleep in it. Rooms are simply furnished, with TVs and refrigerators. Ala Moana Center is a half-block away, and there are two beach parks within two blocks of the hotel.
The most terrible hotel I have ever stayed in! It was SO DIRTY!! No a/c. and it had a terrible smell. My husband and I sad to each other that we could'nt stay here, not for one night!! Fortunately we got our money back and found another hotel near by.
ALoha, My name is Kapana and I live in Honolulu on Palani Street.
BE WARNED... WHOEVER WROTE THE PREVIOUS REVIEWS ARE EMPLOYED BY THIS DUMP! DO NOT BE MISLED!!! THEY WANT YOUR MONEY
I know about almost every hotel on Oahu.
So why not spend your hard earned money here? Well...
The rooms are FILTHY and have exposed electrical and other wires! Roaches scurry across everyone trying to sleep, all night. A friend woke up with one flattened to his forehead. It looked like a brown Hindu dot with legs!!!
Sheets are changed maybe once a month. Threre are mulitudeds of stains on them if you know what I mean. NO GUESTS ARE ALLOWED and paying guests are treated so rudely it's shocking.
The absolute most terrifying thing to me though is It is a FIRETRAP with no esapes or stairs and a rickity slow elevator.
I have stayed in many other hotels here on the island and can honestly say that I have no axe to grind with this terrible place. I want travelers to have a great time in a great hotel on my island. Rather than arrive at this pit and being very disappointed, choose another... any other hotel, and avoid the disappointment.
To be fair the good points are that it is just a walk across Ala Wai Canal (Ala Canal) to the Mall, aross the street is Alamoana Park (Ala Park has lots of Iceheads so be careful) and the location is right on a bus stop(called "The Bus"). However, to get to Waikiki, it is a 15 minute ride, which in Honolulu is way outta the way unless you are used to "Hawaiian Time."
In summary, stay away from this place unless you want to suffer and end up spending HUGE dollars, yen... whatever to change hotels. Memories are all you will have after your trip so make them fantastic!!!
I wrote this as honestly as possible. If you don't believe me, just try it for a night... but have another room booked as insurance.
We saved so much money at this hotel. It was clean and cheap! Our suite had a full kitchen which was important to us because we like to cook. Restaurants in Hawaii are SO expensive. Especially in Waikiki. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a 4 star hotel, but it was great for what we needed and the staff was friendly. I'd definitely stay here again.
I loved the fact I could walk five minutes to beach and the shopping center and restaurants! The room had a complete kitchen and two patios, one oceanside and the other mountainside. The front desk was simple, but the staff was nice! I recommend this hotel!!
At first my boyfriend and I were worried a little about staying here but when we got here, we were very surprised. The staff was really nice. They're family run and are sooo sweet. The elevator is new, our room was clean, also our bathroom, our bedding was fine... we were pleasantly surprised. We'd definitely come back. The price was great! We saved so much money.
Big Surf was dirty (bits of tomato left in dish drain from previous renter?! hair in tub? eww! Blanket had holes in it too) but for my 66 dollars, i got a hotel along the bus line, was able to walk to the mall, and room was larger than most hotel rooms. If you are looking for posh, this is definitely NOT IT but if you just need a place to crash that is cheap and good location, you got it.
when i got there i couldn't get the lamp on (the only light source in the room!) and had to call for help to get it on. we had to unplug the microwave to be able to plug the lamp in. and the sheets were sooo stiff and itchy. but at least they moved us to another room, which was a little better than the first one.
