Description

Vogue Magazine, Travel+Leisure, and New York Magazine's pick for Mendocino lodging.Glendeven is a luxury, eight-acre, ocean-view farmstead overlooking ocean-view meadows and lush forests. Its four buildings are developed around a mint condition 1867 New England-style farmhouse where a typical room is a suite with wood-burning fireplace, ocean views, a view balcony, queen or king bed and a private bath. All rooms have featherbeds, well-lit reading areas, music players, hairdryers, luxury robes, and free WiFi. A full three-course hot breakfast is served in-room each morning, complimentary wine and hors d'eouvres are available in Glendeven's own Wine Bar[n] which is Mendocino's only wine purveyor serving and selling only local Anderson Valley wines by the glass and bottle. Glendeven is known for its fine antiques blended with contemporary art, a lounge-like ocean-view sitting room with games and a brick hearthed fireplace. Stunning botanical gardens, grazing llamas, and 50 laying hens contribute to Glendeven's feeling of a luxury ocean view farmstead. Enjoy this wonderful place to stay on Californias spectacular Mendocino coast.

Lovely Inn with great ambience, ocean views, very comfortable spacious elegant rooms, good bedding. Well maintained buildings and gardens with llamas and chickens! Exceptional breakfast delivered to your room at 9am. Excellent service and excellent location, Van Damme Park trail heads minutes nearby. Doubt it can get any better!

Charming cottage with gorgeous views
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/12/11
We loved everything about our stay at the Beach Trail Cottage starting with the yummy brownies and flowers left for us to enjoy upon arrival! The cottage is roomy, comfortable and the location to the beach and the views are the best! Within walking distance to the beautiful inn where we had a delicious breakfast and elegant and friendly wine tasting. The staff was very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Our favorite spot was the front porch of the cottage looking out at the ocean and then later at night in front of the fire! Very roomy bedroom upstairs with gorgeous views and a very comfortable bed. Was so quiet and relaxing we hated to leave! Would definately recommend and would love to go back! Lots of beautiful beaches and great hikes nearby.

Planning to return - exceeded all expectations
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/23/11
We stayed in the Briar Rose - highly recommend it. We'd open the french door and watch the Llamas while we at an amazing breakfast. Sat by the fire at night. Walked the grounds every day to visit the chickens, llamas, garden and ducks. The Wine Bar(n) is a great feature. We could relax, sip wine and meet other guests. I can't say enough about the attention to detail. They really do it right. I cannot think of anything that I did't like.

Post Ranch Inn has some Competition
By SteveSF, 2/15/11
Planning a trip to Mendocino? Look no further than Glendeven Inn for lodging. I love the fact that there are no in-room phones or TV's. For those needing connectivity to the outside world WIFI is provided in your room and adjacent community rooms. Theres a reason why GI was voted in for being in the top 10 Inn's for the US, exceptional service from start to finish. When you arrive, you're greeted with knowledgeable staff to introduce you to the Inn's amenities and surrounding businesses. A note from the owner is tied to a vase of fresh cut flowers with a wax seal. A real nice touch. The grounds are manicured and well kept with Llama's grazing in one of two large pastures. Most rooms have water and white water views. Mine was fantastic from the balcony. A great place to have morning coffee or a glass of wine before dinner. Around 5:30 each night, guests are invited to the reception area/gallery for complimentary wine and cheese plate. Selection of original art is tasteful and adds to the views and surroundings. The best word I can used to describe Glendeven is balance. Every detail from customer service to amenities to food/wine was perfect. Staff was able to secure dinner reservations at peak time when waits were more than one hour. Made me feel like a rock star. Breakfast is delivered to your door promptly at 9am. Fresh juice, baked goods and egg dish with coffee. All was delicious. Dinner at Glendeven Inn = +15 I had one of the best meals of my life here that rivaled the food that is found at The Post Ranch Inn at Big Sur. Dinner service is provided three nights a week and I was lucky to have stayed here when the guest chef created the most amazing dinner I have had in years. Starter: yogurt encased within a thin membrane with a special salt that must enter your mouth quickly or the membrane may burst. This followed with a glass of Scharffen Berger Brute was unforgettable. Soup was amazing, once again a balance of flavors in perfect harmony, served up with a crisp white. Salad of marinated portobello mushroom and fennel salad with a floral gewurztraminer - yummy and balanced. Then something really special: shaved ice with pomegranate and some other juice that escapes my mind with minced fruit: delightful. Main Course: I opted for the snapper set atop a puree of potato and roasted squash. Tender, flaky and cooked to perfection. Others had a hanger steak with a froth of celery that was so beautiful. This was served with a Baxter Syrah that was amazing. Desert consisted of a chocolate/caramel tart again with a special salt and a great pour of desert wine. I was fortunate to be seated next to the Baxter winemaker. Real nice folks. During dinner I was able to learn much about the different varieties in the region and what years tended to be best for several varieties. Before checking out I purchased several of the wines that I enjoyed the night before. All are sold at the same price that each winery sells for. Make sure you take some time to read guest books that have accumulated over the years in your room. Each is a small snapshot in time and what guest felt and did during their stay. I see these books as being a great start to a short story covering the history of any room. Glendeven is world class lodging and dining. I highly recommend them!

Northern California getaway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/25/10
We were on holiday from the UK in Northern California with our teenage sons for the first time. We are delighted that we stayed at the Glendeven Inn. The barn was perfect for our family both in size and quality, as well as the glorious advantage of having a wine bar below (open until 7pm). John, Mike and team gave us a warm welcome. John's local knowledge was crucial in us making the most of our time, in particular the lovely walks and interesting drives. We would certainly recommend the Inn and hope to return in the future.

Best choice for Mendicino area
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/13/10
Glendeven is a first rate bed and breakfast! We have stayed at bed and breakfast inns and homes in resort areas east and west and this is the best. The value for the price is amazing. Everything from start to finish was perfect. John and the staff were very helpful, recommendations were given freely and fitted us perfectly. We enjoyed the walks available right outside of the inn, the gardens and also would recommend the sea kayak trip. Having a private guide was very educational. Beyond the excellent service, accomodations and food, the location was ideal. Right across from the headland and next to Van Damme park and beach is amazing. Being a short way from the Mendocino downtown was a plus if you want to enjoy what coast and forests have to offer and have some peace and relaxation.

Charming
By Jennifer, 8/12/10
Since John & Mike have taken the place over 3 years ago the standard has come way up to being outstanding. Glendeven is a charming, beautiful B & B with manicured gardens, quaint rooms and animals that you can interact with. There is no phone, no tv but you dont even mind not having them because just to sit and relax or take a walk is the main reason for staying here. Yes they are sat back from the beach but it only takes a 15-20 min easy walk to reach it. The staff are all very friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have a nice stay. The gourmet breakfasts are great and homemade cookies available all day! Price is up there but the whole region of this part of California is expensive so they are right in line and even on the lower side compared to other B & B's there I would highly recommend Glendeven for a stay
