10 reviews for San Juan Inn, San Juan Bautista
Pleasant Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/06/08
My companion and I have been coming here for La Posada (December) since it was new and have always been treated well. Our room had been redecorated and had new tile in the bathroom. The drapes were new as well. This is a 2-3 Star MOTEL, in a small town, so if you are expecting the Ritz, you will be disappointed. What you DO get is a good, clean reasonably priced motel just a three block walk from historic San Juan Bautista.

Could be great, but isn't
By SuzyQ, 11/05/07
I stayed here this past weekend and was very surprised by the cigarette smell in the room, the dirty carpet and the dirty toilette (which I had to clean myself). While all of the rooms are now non-smoking, my jammies reeked of old stale smoke when I took them out of the suitcase at home. This place could be great with a minimal makeover. The old dirty carpet needs to be torn out and replaced, the drapes need to be replaced and it needs a fresh coat of paint. The stale smoke smell would be gone if these things were done. The grounds are now nice with grass, cactus and pepper trees. I would stay here again if they made these changes; otherwise NOT ever again.

Did the job
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/14/07
The San Juan Inn was just ok. It needs serious updating but did seem to be fairly clean. There was no fluff or frills. One big problem was the lighting. EVERY bulb was replaced with the energy saving type that don't give off much light. It was very hard to see anything in your room at night or even with the drapes closed in the morning. The Inn is close to the San Juan downtown area, just across the road.

Dingy and Dark...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/05/07
I had reserved rooms here for out-of-town guests for my spring wedding after reading some positive reviews. I have no idea why people have such great things to say about this motel. It's dingy, dirty and dark. I am so glad we came down and checked out the rooms instead of relying on internet reviews. Very dark carpet and wallpaper. The bathroom was dingy. I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable walking around barefoot. The landscaping is nothing but weeds and the pool was far from inviting (I came to check out the hotel in mid-summer '06 when the pool should have been used most). This hotel is located right on a busy highway. Downtown is walking distance, but you must cross the busy highway. There are only two hotels to choose from in San Juan, so I guess beggars can't be choosers.

Great hotel!
By egm, 01/07/07
I heard that there was one other hotel in this very small, quaint town but after visiting it, it doesn't compare to the overall ambience that the San Juan Inn provides. If you're looking for a five-star accomodation with butlers and expensive decor, then you need to go to another town like San Francisco. I saw some of the complaints about this hotel and it seems that the comments are related to another hotel. Perhaps those reviewers were intoxicated, high on drugs and/or just plain rude. People in small towns are friendly but they won't put up with beligerant behavior that some suburban or urban visitors sometimes exhibit. I've traveled all over California and many parts of the world; I usually travel twice a year overseas. Traveling is about sharing new experiences and adapting to new changes. If you try to push your suburban/city culture on the locals, then you will be in for a rude awakening. Better to stay in your nice, neat home rather than complain about silly little things. The nicest thing about this hotel is that nobody bothers you. It's very quiet and the staff are friendly. Everything is also in working order. Wireless internet (WiFi) is also provided for FREE. A perfect place to get away from it all: the rat race, plastic lifestyles and monotony found in suburbs and especially cities. I am very grateful for the accomodations and service. I'll definitely return when I travel throughout the area.

Very anxious to return to the San Juan Inn.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/09/06
It is nestled in a rural agricultural area, near mountains, away from the noise of traffic congestions and people. Clean comfortable rooms, wall surrounded outside pool and Spa, good outside lighting and cameras, professional personnel, tranquility, a few minutes drive to San Juan Bautista's historical area, restaurants and shops. I have invited family and friends to stay at the San Juan Inn.

Worst Hotel Ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/15/06
I travel a lot. This place is an absolute dump. The first review was written by the hotel, by the way. They are incredibly rude on the phone. They went back and forth about the price. Instead of the $79 it turned out to be $159. Don't stay at this motel!

A Fair Value
By , 11/14/05
The place was clean and felt comfortable. Got a good night's sleep. There was a little road noise and rural morning noise but it was bearable. The room and the motel are dated but comfortable. Everything worked, the room was sunny. A fair value.

what a dump!
By Deborah, 07/12/05
I have stayed here at least 4 or 5 times before, and can say that it has gone to the birds. The landscaping is a bunch of weeds, the paint is in disrepair, the sink was almost completely clogged (30 minutes to drain), the shower drain was slow, the pillow cases and towels had stains (at least I hope they were stains, and not just that they hadn't been washed). I was only "allowed" one extra pillow (asked for 2 since I am preggo, and our son wanted one). We were shorted towels after the first night. They took the dirty ones off the floor and didn't replace them, so my son had to re-use mine, and we only had one washcloth and a couple hand towels. Two Roosters crowed all night long all 3 nights we were there. There are no clocks in the room (but they have a microwave - go figure). Oh, and the bed was like sleeping on a layer of cardboard over box springs (I compare it to sleeping in a tent on the ground with twigs poking you). It was hard as a rock and the springs poke through. I actually found the hida-bed more comfortable. Never even bothered with the pool, as I figured it would disgust me.

Adorable rest stop.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/02/05
The hotel's atmosphere is very soothing. The pool is a bit cold in the early morning, but is great fun for anyone who wants to play, and the spa is perfect for relaxing. The hotel is just a short walk from very nice dining establishments, as well as adorable botiques that can fill anyone's shopping pleasure.
