Worst Hotel Experience

After years of travel, this was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. My flight was arriving after midnight the day I booked my reservation and (despite the fact that my reservation said they would hold the room until 7 am the next day) I called twice to confirm it, once right before getting on the plane. When I got off the plane, I had a voicemail from the same person I had just spoken with saying my reservation was canceled because I was a "no show" and my card was already charged for the night!! The night person settled it and said he would charge me only for 2 nights as compensation and got me a room, but told me this happens a lot with this particular employee. The room was missing an ashtray and had no extra pillows or towels and the neighborhood was sketchy, but we managed. Then at checkout, the same employee denied he did it, refused to apologize and called me a liar. Then he told me he would be charging me for 3 nights and reversing the adjustment. I told him I wanted to speak to the manager first because even if he credited my card afterwards, the credit wouldn't show for 24 hours and my card wouldn't be available for my car rental. He charged my card anyway. I explained the manager the errors that were made but rather than apologize he defended his employee and while all this was happening, the employee began arguing with my husband and threatened to fight him. The manager heard my husband and threatened to call the police, calling me a liar when I told him his employee made the threats!! He then assured me that my card would not be charged until I called and told him the amount I thought we should pay. However, my card WAS charged immediately after, preventing me from being able to pay for my car!! It was credited the next day, but then charged a THIRD time a week later, for 3 nights, despite his promise to wait for my authorization!! Needless to say, I am contesting the charge and will never stay at a Choice Hotel again!
