What a travesty!!!!!
We used to go there so many times. It was beautiful. We could stay in a unit with an enclosed deck and our dogs would sleep outside. They could run on the beach at slow times because the beach was entirely enclosed. It was for sale the last time that we went, probably 2005, when the owners were trying to retire and couldn't get their kids to run the place. I guess they didn't get any buyers. CONDOS!!! It just makes me sick. I suppose I can't blame then, though. However, while I was looking for it on the Yachats website, I noticed that vacation houses were just $200,000 in 2000, but are now valued at $384,000. Which of us could have resisted a doubling of prices in just ten years? (Although prices SHOULD have dropped with the down economy in Oregon, I guess vacation property doesn't follow the same economic rules). The property was probably bought by someone from out of state who makes a whole lot more money than the typical worker and landowner in Oregon does. The loss of more of our state treasures to corporate (and probably Californian) America. The late great Tom McCall protected the beaches only, but not the land surrounding them. Signed, A forlorn fan
