What sad news....
I was planning my next trip to the Oregon Coast, and was so lookin forward to staying at the Shamrock Lodgettes again....We had so much fun there last time that we stayed two extra days. Beautiful view, and nice to have the fireplace....So sad to hear that the Shamrock is gone...was to be one of the highlights of my trip...

So VERY sad.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/19/11
One of the best memories that I still have left regarding my Mom. She discovered the Logettes back in the mid 80's and it was her favorite place. Yeah they might not have been the most updated and a bit funky, but NO WHERE else would anyone find little log cabins on Oregon's beautiful coastline. My Mom painted the landscapes there and I remember the smell of her cooking and taking walks on the beach. Best of all she was finally clean and sober. I took my own daughter there too many years after Mom died. What a complete shock to discover them gone. My BEST memories now holes for new condos. The towns people said that some of the cabin had been moved and saved. I'am FOREVER sad.

What a travesty!!!!!
By Diane, 8/26/10
We used to go there so many times. It was beautiful. We could stay in a unit with an enclosed deck and our dogs would sleep outside. They could run on the beach at slow times because the beach was entirely enclosed. It was for sale the last time that we went, probably 2005, when the owners were trying to retire and couldn't get their kids to run the place. I guess they didn't get any buyers. CONDOS!!! It just makes me sick. I suppose I can't blame then, though. However, while I was looking for it on the Yachats website, I noticed that vacation houses were just $200,000 in 2000, but are now valued at $384,000. Which of us could have resisted a doubling of prices in just ten years? (Although prices SHOULD have dropped with the down economy in Oregon, I guess vacation property doesn't follow the same economic rules). The property was probably bought by someone from out of state who makes a whole lot more money than the typical worker and landowner in Oregon does. The loss of more of our state treasures to corporate (and probably Californian) America. The late great Tom McCall protected the beaches only, but not the land surrounding them. Signed, A forlorn fan

Sorry to hear they're gone
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/21/10
In 1980 my husband and I stayed there for the first time and fell in love with the Lodgettes and Yachats completely. We returned in 1992 with our 14 month old daughter and my mother. What a wonderful time we had. Yachats and the Shamrock Lodgettes will always hold very, very special memories for my family forever.

Going bck VERY soon
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/8/10
My wife, sister-in-law & I spent an extremely enjoyable time in cabin #1, 1950's style. Had a most enjoyable stay. The staff gave directions to a covered bridge that we'd never would have known about. Walking distance to town and meals. Able to fix our own meals also. Great, great time. Checking on availabilty for next visit. Mike from Tacoma

Outdated rooms, but nice location
By Melissa, 11/9/07
Outdated rooms and could be a little cleaner bathroom, but otherwise we had a nice time. The location is awesome. Great for walks on the beach, tidepools, and shell collecting. The town doesn't have a lot to offer, and the restaurants are a little strange, but it doesn't take long to drive up to Newport which is a very cute town with sea lions and great restaurants. The lodgettes are a good jumping off place for exploring the coast, north and south.
