Never again!!
We wish we had read the most recent reviews before leaving on our trip!! We had read some wonderful reviews of this place LAST year so decided to do something "different" from the traditional motel thing. We should have checked back before leaving home!
When we arrived at 4 PM after a 5+ hour drive from the other end of Arizona, we were assigned trailer #208 but when we went there we could see through the glass sliding door that there was a pile of dirty towels on the floor in front of the door. We opened the slightly open and unlocked glass door and called in just in case someone was still there. We entered and found the place an absolute PIG STY! It had not been cleaned. There was food and garbage all over the counters, table top, and even the floor. The garbage containers were full, the sink was full of dirty dishes, the beds unmade, the fridge full of food, etc. We called the front office and they apologized profusely that the room had been missed in error. This place suffers from lack of general cleaning and maintenance. First night there I bought a big can of Lysol spray and sprayed everything! Curtains were tattered. The furnishings looked 10X worse than stuff you find in the Salvation Army stores - no offense to them! The carpets looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months - maybe longer. The sliding glass patio door would hardly slide due to all the dirt and stuff in the track, ditto with the screen. And if you closed the sliding screen door first, you couldn't close and lock the glass door. The vertical blinds that were supposed to cover the sliding entry door had so many slats missing there was really not much point to closing them at all. At night cold air literally came through the wall above the bed where I slept. This was a 2 bedroom unit, which we had thought was to be a two BED unit. Each bed in the 2 tiny bedrooms was a double, so hubby and I slept in separate rooms....no way we could share one double bed and get any sleep. Beds were terrible....old, springy and hard. The fridge motor ran most of the time - loudly - and when it finally shut off, usually in the middle of the night, it rattled the walls. The place was just plain NOISY on many levels!! Airplanes (it's near the airport), military helicopters (it's near the Marine Station), trucks, motorcycles...all the sounds seemed to be magnified in this little metal box we were trying to make into our home. The hot water heater made such noise every time we used any hot water. It crackled and popped and sounded so awful. The front steps into the unit were creaky and the green carpeting was FILTHY and old. It certainly gave us a clue as to what to expect inside.
Two pluses: the place was very close to the venue where the car show was being held, and there were lots of fresh grapefruit to pick from the trees.
We're wondering if this place changed ownership since the really positive reviews of 2006. We never checked out the pool/spa or any of the other "ammenities" the place might have had. There seemed to be some very nice-looking mobile units on the property that seemed to be occupied long term, so we're wondering if the one we stayed in was pawned off on the unsuspecting overnighters. We would have tried to move to another motel/hotel, but there were several big events going on in town and rooms were not available. But we will certainly NEVER come back to this place!
