Best Place to Stay in Sister Bay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/1/07
We recently stayed at Helm's over Memorial Day weekend. If you're looking for an affordable waterfront hotel, this is the place to stay! It's located right downtown and convenient to the area restaurants and attractions. We parked our car all weekend and walked to almost everything we wanted to do. There's a great park located next door to this hotel (our kids loved the playground equipment)and we were only one block away from the restaurant with the goats on the roof.
Their location is second to none. The waterview from our room was spectacular! Our room had a private enclosed porch that faced the lake and we enjoyed starting our day with coffee on the porch. While the room a little dated (primarily a small bathroom), it was extemely clean. The hotel also serves a free breakfast each morning - nothing fancy but a better selection than most.
There is a large grassy lawn area between the building and the water's edge and our kids enjoyed running around feeding bread to the ducks and seagulls. They also enjoyed exploring the shore (which is primarily rock).
The hotel has a nice indoor pool and jacuzzi. The pool area is spacious and bright with lots of tables, lounges, chairs and a few video games. Our first night we carried out a pizza from the Northern Grille and ate it poolside (great pizza by the way if you like thin crust with lots of flavor). The only downside was that we needed to walk outside to get to the pool area (under a covered sidewalk - not a big deal considering the weather was nice). The hotel however does have many rooms that are pool side.
The staff we encountered were some of the most friendly and helpful we have ever experienced. It's nice to know that quality customer service still exists! We left the hotel feeling we were a valued customer.
We recommend this hotel to others and will definately stay here again.
