rate this place a negative -1
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/10
This is the first review I have ever posted, I just didn't want anyone else to be taken by the outside view of the grounds- the day and night we stayed the outside temperatures were 90 and above the inside of this room was like a suana- the metal roof is like putting a pie in to bake. Possibly about 3am - the room temp. got to about 75. The room was old looking, dirty and just in plain terms the kind of room you would never want to take your shoes off in, let alone sleep in the bed. When we told the man at the desk the problem with the air, he first didn't even look up from the computer and then he glanced up and said "well sorry about that"

Don't let the office fool you.
By Dan, 8/2/10
We checked in, went to our dark, dingy room and found that the sheets on the bed were not clean. The girl in the office gave us another room which did have clean sheets but a dirty towel was hanging on the hook on the back of the bathroom door. At bedtime when we turned the lights out, the roaches came out to greet us. The parking lot was not lit at all and some of the walkways were dark as well. Don't let the big, nice office fool you. This place is not nice at all. One night's stay was $102 with tax. It wouldn't have been a bargain at half that price. We were very, very disappointed and will not return to this motel.

Not worth the effort
By B P, 4/28/10
was given one price, and then when the weekend started tried to up the price. Walls are paper thin.. holes in the walls, paint peeling, complained to front desk, about noise. was hearing showers, and bathroom noises at 4am.. Had to have the air on to sleep.. Housekeeping was at best lousy.. very cheap... The grounds look great, obviously put all the money there, and in the new lodge.. Because they scrimp on everything else. Spoke to Visitors center, was given owners name, and called him.. Owner owns alot of property in Townsend.. when I explained that he had advertised a certain price, and was charged a higher price, he explained that there is free breakfast at his cafe down the street, and that takes $15.00 off the price of the room.. After hangin up several minutes later, General manager of lodge called me and was very upset that I had contacted the owner.. wanted to know how I got the phone number. Explained that I had requested to speak to him, prior, but receptionist would not give out that info.. Offered to move us, but since this was our last night declined.. Will stay at some of the better inns next time.. If you like cheap furniture, and cheaper service, stay here. otherwise keep looking

Great place for family reunion
By Lisa, 7/6/09
We had over 75 people of all ages stay for 3 nights for a family reunion. The layout and facilities were perfect for gathering and visiting . The teens and young children in our group loved the pools & the outdoor movie that was shown at night on the grounds. The owner made a bomb fire for our group every night and we used, a screened-in outdoor pavillion for meeting & eating. The rooms in building 3 & 4 that we reserved were charming, spacious & updated. The grounds have been beautifully upgraded & landscaped. The new lodge was not yet completed , but it will be equal or better to any 5 star rustic resort. The owners are still in the process of upgrades & renovations to all buildings & structures, but it did not interfere with our visit. Any problems or issues we encountered was immediately addressed by the owner & staff. I stayed there 2 years ago before many of the renovations. It is a much different hotel now. I look forward going back again once all the upgrades are complete.

Great Place for meetings
By TC, 9/2/08
I attended a motorcycle event at the Valley View. The grounds were spotless, the rooms clean and roomy, and the several meeting areas met our needs for meetings and meals. There were a few problems with the air conditioning and hot water in some of the rooms, but these were addressed promptly by the owner. Bugs were never a factor, and honestly noone ever brought upp that hey had any bug problem. Our group numbered over 350 in attendance. There was ample room to gather in groups or even find a "quiet" place if one so desired. My group was the 1st of several booked for 2008, and served as a learning exprerience for the hotel staff. Many of the attendees have said they will return to the Valley View when they are in the area. They loved the Lodge, the area, and the room to mingle among friends. There was plenty of parking, areas for vendor setup, and the facilities to be used by our caterer. There are so many rooms to choose from and are priced accordingly. We look to hold future events at the Valley View.

Great Place To Stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/14/08
Our family of five stayed at the Valley View Lodge April 5-11 2008. We stayed in a suite near the pool, our room was clean & ideal for a family! The staff was great, the grounds were beautiful! The price was very fair. We had a great time and we would definately stay there again! Bill & Lea Anne Bigelow Michigan

We loved it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/18/07
We rented a nice sized suite with a fireplace & Jacuzzi - mini-fridge & microwave as well for around $100 in the peak of the autumn season of 2004. The landscaping was beautiful & the sunrise view from the breakfast area was breath-taking. I am planning a return trip in a couple of weeks!

Some Good/Some Bad
By Anita, 6/24/07
We stayed in a Family Suite. For a family of 5 the size of the room is great. The room was clean but had a strange smell (stale like smell). The staff was nice. The room was cleaned daily in a timely manner. The motel is in a great location. It is quiet and the grounds are nice. Our room was on the back of the property so we heard very little traffic. The kids loved the 3 pools. We saw many rabbits, birds, and squirrels around the grounds. If you want the internet, don't stay here. They have no WiFi. You can get a weak signal if you sit outside but nothing if you are inside. Dial up looked good with what little signal I could get. Finding the office is a bit confusing. It looks as if this was 2 different motels at one time. If coming from the Cherokee, NC side, the first entrance is not where the office is located. IMO, they should tear that part of the roof off so it isn't as confusing. We ran out of toilet paper the first night as we only had half a roll to start. At 10:00, I went to the office to get more. They didn't have any there. So that I didn't have to wait 15-20 minutes to get a roll they gave me a partially used roll from the office. At least we got toilet paper. While the grounds are nice, they are dimly lit. It is hard to see where you are walking after dark. There appears to be many lights that just didn't work. The bathroom cabinets were screwed shut except for one. It appeared it had been screwed at one time. I have never seen that done anywhere. They could have put an extra roll of toilet paper there. ;) The remote in the front room with 2 beds did not work. The kids didn't complain and I didn't realize it till the last night. Our side had no remote. We didn't turn the TV much so it wasn't a major problem. The security lock on the door was half missing. The dead bolt at the back door didn't lock correctly. The bolt barely went in. The chain on the back door was also half missing. The light on the back "patio" was missing. The wiring was exposed and capped off. We noticed a light on the front a few doors down that was the same way (missing light and wire capped off). On the top of the TV armoire in the front area, we found an old paintbrush. On a shelf in the bathroom area, we found a glass shelf with a piece broken off. At the one open cabinet door in the bathroom we found a metal shelf with several screws. On the patio we found staples and screws. There was also some wood pieces that appeared to be from overhang. The room was fairly big. It would have been nice to have an AC unit in both halves. To cool the front half, the back half was too cool. Breakfast is just muffins and coffee. The most disturbing thing I saw was one night when I was sitting out front trying to access the internet. A family went to a room a few doors down and opened the door. They had just checked in. The problem was that someone else was already in that room. Those people were not in the room at the time but the "new" people saw their suitcases. Needless to say the new family was not happy as they had their arms full of suitcases and they were given an occupied room. They need to pay attention to the details. The prices are fair and I have stayed at worse places overall.

Bad experience at hotel.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/11/07
We liked the location of the hotel. They advertized that they had microwaves and refrigerators in each room, we found neither one, we called down to the office and were told that unfortunately they had not come in on time to be put in the room (could not refrigerate or cook the food we brought. This NEW ROOM had an old bathroom,it had dirt ground into the bottom of the tub,old cracked tile (bathroom was being worked) They claimed the room was new, it turned out that it was a redone room with an old bathroom. One thing they did right was, the air-conditioner quit and they fixed it quickly. We would not have chosen the hotel if we know it was not ready, bad experience
