Shangrai-La Motel, Saugatuck

I want to share our experience at the Shangrai-La Motel on 07/30/10. The pictures from the website are obviously old and very misleading. Our visit was spontaenous so accommodations were difficult to find. From the pictures available on the website, this looked like a very nice place to spend the night. When we arrived in the evening, we were very disappointed with the appearance of the motel. It was very run down, and poorly kept. The outside pool was filthy with mold and green scum. The rooms smelled musty and the wallpaper was peeling away from the walls. The shower smelled, and also had mold growing in the corners. When we turned down the sheets on the bed, there was body hair and what appeared to be small chips of wood. Obviously these sheets had not been changed from the person renting the room before us. I immediately reported the findings to the front desk, and was offered a changing of sheets. I was disgusted but knew there was no other available lodging in the area, so had no other option to sleep here overnight with my sister and 2 children. Upon my insistence to compensate us for this inconvenience, we were credited $25 of our $125 bill. This motel desperately needs cleaning and remodeling. I will post my experience on every available website, so other don't have this horrible experience!

This place is great, it is clean and quiet. It is maintained very well and looking forward to staying here next year. I don't know about the 80's and 90's, but it certainely is a relaxing place to stay.
