Grant Hills Motel, Galena

I've been staying at this motel for 7 years every September for Ladies Get-a-way Weekend and always found the rooms clean. I really like what the new owners did to the place. The mini frigs and microwaves add just what we needed. We'll continue to stay here for every Ladies Get-a-Way.

We found the staff (owners?) to be VERY friendly and helpful. We showed up quite late at night and were given the 'triple' family room for a single price as thats all they had left. We were told to watch for clouds and if storms threatened, to park our motorcycles beneath the overhanging roof out front. It's an older motel, but well worth the stay! Usually we would stay at the Country Inn, but they've priced themselves out of the market, if you ask me. Going back to Grant Hills next month!

The bathroom tile is great for little accidents. Stuff just comes right off the floor, almost like it was sprayed with pam.

I was a little leery of staying here after reading other reviews, but the price was right and so we gave it a shot. The managers were new and I guess had made a lot of changes like new carpeting and bedding and new paint on the walls and furniture so everything was incredibly clean and nice. My girlfriend usually won't even use the bathrooms in motels and SHE thought it was clean. We had to pay $10 extra for the dog, but I'm not sure if anyone else in town allows dogs. Main Street was close enough to walk to, and the managers had given us some good reccomendations for restaurants (which I'm to write reviews for once I'm done here...). All in all, it was excellent and we only spent $85.

New owners and a new manager have brought fresh updates to this value-priced motel! Enjoyed the new decor and the extra little touches--including in-room hair dryers and microwave & mini fridge in our family suite(3 double beds). Budget & family friendly--no smoking & pet friendly. Plus, we could park right outside of our room. No lugging suitcases down hallways. Very friendly & helpful! Will stay again!!

The room's decore was from the 70s and I think that's the last time it was cleaned. It had dark paneling on the walls, filthy carpeting, a bright blue toilet, sink & shower (complete with squashed bugs). This room should have cost about $30 but cost us $75 instead. The complimentary cofee in the office was one pot for 33 rooms to share. There was no shampoo or other amenities in the room except for soap. The water pressure in our room was good but our friends in a room on the other end of the Motel had barely a trickle of water in their shower. If this is your only option for a place to stay you'd be better off pitching a tent.

The owner is unfriendly and belligerent. My wife and I were one of three couples who stayed at the Grant Hills Motel in june. We are all in our 40's and 50's and were touring on Honda motorcycles. Despite being nearly devoid of other motel patrons the owner refused to let us push our motorcycles under the motel awning during a thunder storm. We will not again stay at the Grant Hills under any circumstances.

love to stay here when in town visiting my frined, since we live 5 hrs apart and he works in galena, driving a dodge wich looks like a fire truck in all the senses lol

This family-run motel is within a healthy walk of downtown Galena and directly across U.S. Route 20 from a family restaurant on the east side of Galena. Our room was clean and comfortable with telephone and cable TV but no in-room amenities such as a small refrigerator, ironing board, hair dryer or coffee pot. Ironing boards and irons are available from the office by request, and fresh coffee and sweet rolls were available each morning in the office. It is almost always possible to park directly outside ones room, and the grounds and views from front and back of the motel are quite nice. Proprietors are friendly and helpful. We have stayed there twice and plan to do so again.
