Mountain Springs Cabins, Asheville

We were two families of 4 that stayed in two cabins at Mountain Springs. We were a little put off prior to arrival by the 5 page instruction sheet we received via email, but were hoping that in person the staff would be curteous and helpful. Wrong Wrong Wrong! The instruction sheet was duplicated upon arrival in the "Welcome Packet". The whole thing is peppered with warnings and advisories of how much can and will be charged to your account if the rules are not followed precisely. I appreciate that they may have been burned in the past, but this assumption of guilt was too much! It was certainly not welcoming. One of our cabins was FULL of cobwebs and spider webs and smelled of dust, their reaction - the cabins are clean, the cobwebs must have occured overnight. The staff were neither curteous nor helpful and preferred to refer our verbal questions on check-in to the info sheets we had received. It is clear that they are not building on return visitors and just hoping others fall in for the first time. If you read these reviews - do yourself a favor and stay in a motel - it's cleaner, cheaper and the staff is actually helpful!

For bad customer service consider Mountain Springs Cabins & Chalets (Emma's Cove Rd, Asheville, NC). My family (with 2 young children) had a reservation for 5 days from 4/2/07 � 4/7/07, which I had changed from earlier dates of 3/31 � 4/5. Because of a computer glitch or human error, our change in reservation didn�t show up on their computer. Despite showing them their own written confirmation of the change, they refused to honor our reservation. Upon discovering the discrepancy, the proprietor was immediately foul-mouthed, without any consideration that the mistake might be hers. This despite the fact that her computer was down, so she had no way of checking. A half hour later she apologized and offered us an upgrade on the cabin we had reserved. Three days later, seemingly very distressed over losing money, she recanted her generosity and accused me of �doctoring� the reservation�s written confirmation! She demanded we leave or pay more money for the cabin we had already paid for. Both sides called a sheriff�s officer in, who told us that Mountain Springs Cabins is essentially a hotel, and therefore, despite evidence of it�s breach of contract, we had no landlord/tenant legal recourse. Thus the proprieter had a right to kick us off of her property, and my only recourse was a civil suit. Throughout our experience, Mountain Spring�s reservation system and check-in procedures were sloppy and unprofessional. For example, the proprietor claimed that they �never take reservation change requests over the phone�. However, they did in our case, and never told us of their policy when we were booking the cabin. Another example: When we arrived, despite introducing myself, the proprietor assumed we were a different family and sent us off down the road to the wrong cabin. When she realized her mistake, she was immediately rude to us, apparently because she had expected our arrival 2 days earlier due to her sloppy reservation system. Facilities: The creek on the property is nice and the cabins small but quaint, although poorly maintained. The gas fire place in our cabin never worked, and the toilet over-flowed. Asheville has dozens of cabin resorts � have a relaxing vacation and stay away from Mountain Springs!

We wanted a private setting that was still within striking distance to Asheville and we were not disappointed. We stayed in the 'Cricket Cabin' and would happily stay there again. The creek outside was a perfect back drop when we had breakfast and dinner on the porch. The staff was warm , welcoming and helpful in guiding us through our first visit to the area. Each night that we returned to the cabin it felt like coming home to our own special little cabin! We will definitely be returning.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the cricket cabin at Mountain Springs this past November and had a fabulous time. Not only was the cabin clean, cozy, and fully furnished, but the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. They gave us great tips and recommendations for local restaurants and attractions. My boyfriend and I recently became engaged and couldn't think of a better place to host our wedding. We can't wait to share Mountain Springs with our friends and family.

We had a fantastic time – loved Mountain Springs cabins. Since I was in charge of planning activities for the family, I found the links on the website VERY helpful. A group of us went to Biltmore, many of us went whitewater rafting with French Broad rafting and a few of us went kayaking and hiking. Of course, there was lots of relaxing also. The staff was helpful in that they took our interests into account and helped plan and coordinate all of the day trips and meals for our big group. The cabins had just been renovated and though we liked what we saw online, what we found when we arrived was truly the icing on the cake. Everything was so clean and staff so helpful. Even found some good books in their library to read while sneaking away for some quiet time in the hammock by the stream. I give Mountain Springs a two thumbs up!!

Reviewed October 23, 2011 NEW Mountain Springs Cabins is a place that my wife and I look forward to every fall. This will be our seventh year coming here. Usually when you go on vacation and stay at a hotel, you never want to go back unless you have to. When you stay at Mountain Springs you dont mind spending the whole day relaxing. The best part of the day is in the morning. As you wake up to the tranqulity of the running stream, the the sun starts to brighten the sky and you here the faint sounds of roosters across the way. Another beautiful sight is watching the white ducks swim upstream. This year we got an added bonus, watching a baby cow nuzzling up to her mom. The cabin is very clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the HD television and wifi are more than adequate if you wish to use them. Kate and her staff are exceptional. They will help you plan your day if you wish. They know a lot about the area and can tell you great restaurants to go to and the amazing sites to see along the Blue Ridge Parkway and other sites that only locals know about. We will be back in 2012 and beyond.

We have just returned from a 7 day stay at Mtn Springs. We spent much of our time travelling the the winding roads on our motorcycles (put 1000 miles on them) and returning each night to our cosy cabin. The roads in the area are at the top of the list for motorcycle touring-literally and physically (rode to 6,035 ft up in the mtns.-unbelieveable scenery!!) The cabin-The Hummingbird (#7) rated up there as well! -Yes we did have a hummingbird visit as well as a Great Blue Heron fishing in the stream below our cabin. Another time a Pileated Woodpecker provided us with entertainment as we sat on the porch swing enjoying our morning coffee. Of course the resident white ducks were always waddling about too. The little farm across the stream had chickens and a rooster- yes he provided alarm clock service free! Even though the cabin was air conditioned we chose to have the windows open so that we could listen to the flowing water and birds chirping- such soothing sounds we slept very well. We did have difficulty getting our motorcycle trailers into the cabin area due to roadways being too narrow. Staff were very quick to help and provided an open area to park the trailers as well as an alternative roadway out of the property. The cabins were nicely decorated and the grounds kept very neat. Dirty towels were replaced simply by taking dirty ones to the office and picking up replacements. Staff were quick to fill our requests for additional coffee mugs and silverware, ideas for where to eat out and places to visit. Biltmore Estate was one of our favourites. We did cook at the cabin on the charcoal BBQ and were certainly rewarded with the flavour of our burgers and chicken. The Tupelo Honey Restaurant was an excellent recommendation for a night on the town! Motorcycists-if you want to experience the best biking roads in USA - you will find them here! Hwy 151 to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the road to Chimney Rock were challenging and made the Tail of The Dragon day trip a "walk in the park'!! Our cousins and ourselves are greatful to our daughter and son-in-law for being the biking tour directors and especially for finding this great little place to stay! Thanks Alicia (office staff) for all of your help and making this was one of our most memorable trips! We would loved to have slept in the hammock by the stream, enjoyed a camp fire or played volleyball or badmidton but time did not permit! Oh yes- we even found 4 - four leaf clovers and a 5 leaf one!

Worst customer service ever! Kate really takes the cake, The cabins are nice (and i didnt mind the self cleaning) but Kate's attitude needs to be adjusted. And she is out of sight out of mind, no follow up on requests. Not worth the very pricey rates for rustic and just not friendly place! Wish I could get my money back! We left a baby monitor and asked to have it mailed back, after six months- offers of credit card payment for her time and postage or fed-x , still no return to our USA address! (it was part of an expensive set that is now worthless). Not a nice lady!

We were greeted by Kate upon arrival. She was very friendly, and went out of her way to make us feel at home and welcome. Her customer service was above and beyond. The place is beautiful. There was a wide stream that runs by our cabin and we went to sleep at night listening to the sound of the peaceful stream. The rooms were furnished with items that bring you back in time and help you to focus on the simpler things in life. It is also just a few minutes away from Asheville where we found many incredible restaurants, some of which Kate recommended. She also let us borrow movies and gave us free popcorn one night when we told her we were staying in. The grounds are beautiful, flowers everywhere, birds chirping, grass perfectly cut, old relics (wagon wheels, things found in NC history) around the place with lovely flowers and many plant varieties growing around them. Places for kids to play (swing sets, nets etc). Put simply you feel very secluded and private. The cabin we stayed in was number 9. It had a huge jacuzzi tub with jets, and was high enough off the ground so that we could leave the windows open and see the surrounding fields and stars at night. My wife and I laid in hammocks (They are all over the place, I saw four just around our cabin.) And we sat by the stream and relaxed one day. We ran in to Kate several times and she was so friendly and did her best to make us feel at home, welcome, and just overall ...well...like family. We are going back again. I highly recommend this place. There are some great restaurants around the city of Asheville, and all sorts of different things to do in the city, as far as Art, Music, Entertainment, festivals...something is always going on in Asheville whenever we have visited, but now we feel like we have a second home, a place we can return to that feels away from the rest of the world.

I was a part of the family reunion my brother wrote about previously. I wanted to add my 2 cents as we are coming from two different viewpoints. He was right on with saying it was the best reunion spot ever. He has a large family & it did seem perfect for their needs. My husband & I don't have children yet and we stayed in the Chickadee cabin. It is in the adult or couples section of the property. It was away from the big gathering and recreation area, so my husband and I got to enjoy a good bit of quiet time alone and away from the group. It was wonderful. The cabin was perfect. Romantic. We could see the fire at night from our bed. Coming all the way across the country from Eugene, OR it was great that we did not have a drop of rain while we were there. Big note. If you are flying into Asheville from our part of the world and are going to rent a car, we found flying into Greenville, SC (GSP) was so much cheaper than flying into Charlotte and then onto Asheville. It was only about an hour drive and we saved several hundred dollars. Was worth the drive. The cabins we in an idyllic setting, mountains, pastures, horses, not to mention being on a stream. I can't think of a thing I would change. The staff took care of everything. My husband and I wanted to have more time to explore the area and stayed a few days longer than the rest. We were set up with all kinds of choices for our extra days there. The We did the historic trolley and got an idea of how Asheville was laid out, what we would want to come back to see later, went hiking at some great waterfalls, antique shopping (though I could not buy anything big to take back) She sent us to places we never found in any of the 4 travel guides we purchased in preparation for our trip. If you want to try something tasty and a with a little "Asheville West Side" culture be sure and go to "Sunny Point Cafe"!! There were so many great places to eat in downtown Asheville that have outdoor seating, we could have just spent a week going from one place to the next. All very different, and wonderful. The Pisgah Inn up on the Blue Ridge Parkway, just over our heads was also a wonderful place to eat after we had had a good day of hiking. If you are there on a Friday night. Check out the drum circle. In fact, if you stay at Mountain Springs, you won't have to worry about missing a thing. Just tell Kate what you're interested in and she will take care of the rest. We did try to pre-plan our trip with the guidebooks, but have to say we didn't do a thing we had on our list. Kate kept us so busy with things; we will just have to add some days to our next trip to do what we outlined in our books. I think one could easily spend two weeks in Asheville and not run out of things to do. And with us being at the cabins, we took time each day to relax from our running about and just chill with a glass of wine in the hammock by the stream. I wonder if they would just rent me a hammock?? In a nutshell, this is the place to go. The spring was great as we did not see allot of travelers and the trails and restaurants were not that busy. Though busy enough for me to see that folks are not freaking out about the economy scare and still traveling. That did my heart good to see. I like the idea of getting free nights for referrals and for coming back. It makes us feel like we count and we like that spoiled feeling they gave us. Here we felt special. I think all of their guest does, as we stayed longer than the bulk of our group and got to meet a few other guests at the bonfire one night. They had all been coming there for some time and felt the same way we did. They even gave us some more good ideas on where to go. When you book you can tell them that the Bradley clan referred you (give me some free time!!!) and know that you are in for a great mountain holiday!
