10 reviews for Mountain Springs Cabins, Asheville
Excellent customer service, beautiful, relaxing
By meh, 06/07/09
We were greeted by Kate upon arrival. She was very friendly, and went out of her way to make us feel at home and welcome. Her customer service was above and beyond. The place is beautiful. There was a wide stream that runs by our cabin and we went to sleep at night listening to the sound of the peaceful stream. The rooms were furnished with items that bring you back in time and help you to focus on the simpler things in life. It is also just a few minutes away from Asheville where we found many incredible restaurants, some of which Kate recommended. She also let us borrow movies and gave us free popcorn one night when we told her we were staying in. The grounds are beautiful, flowers everywhere, birds chirping, grass perfectly cut, old relics (wagon wheels, things found in NC history) around the place with lovely flowers and many plant varieties growing around them. Places for kids to play (swing sets, nets etc). Put simply you feel very secluded and private. The cabin we stayed in was number 9. It had a huge jacuzzi tub with jets, and was high enough off the ground so that we could leave the windows open and see the surrounding fields and stars at night. My wife and I laid in hammocks (They are all over the place, I saw four just around our cabin.) And we sat by the stream and relaxed one day. We ran in to Kate several times and she was so friendly and did her best to make us feel at home, welcome, and just overall ...well...like family. We are going back again. I highly recommend this place. There are some great restaurants around the city of Asheville, and all sorts of different things to do in the city, as far as Art, Music, Entertainment, festivals...something is always going on in Asheville whenever we have visited, but now we feel like we have a second home, a place we can return to that feels away from the rest of the world.

Ditto, what he said!!
By daddysbeachgirl, 05/27/09
I was a part of the family reunion my brother wrote about previously. I wanted to add my 2 cents as we are coming from two different viewpoints. He was right on with saying it was the best reunion spot ever. He has a large family & it did seem perfect for their needs. My husband & I don't have children yet and we stayed in the Chickadee cabin. It is in the adult or couples section of the property. It was away from the big gathering and recreation area, so my husband and I got to enjoy a good bit of quiet time alone and away from the group. It was wonderful. The cabin was perfect. Romantic. We could see the fire at night from our bed. Coming all the way across the country from Eugene, OR it was great that we did not have a drop of rain while we were there. Big note. If you are flying into Asheville from our part of the world and are going to rent a car, we found flying into Greenville, SC (GSP) was so much cheaper than flying into Charlotte and then onto Asheville. It was only about an hour drive and we saved several hundred dollars. Was worth the drive. The cabins we in an idyllic setting, mountains, pastures, horses, not to mention being on a stream. I can't think of a thing I would change. The staff took care of everything. My husband and I wanted to have more time to explore the area and stayed a few days longer than the rest. We were set up with all kinds of choices for our extra days there. The We did the historic trolley and got an idea of how Asheville was laid out, what we would want to come back to see later, went hiking at some great waterfalls, antique shopping (though I could not buy anything big to take back) She sent us to places we never found in any of the 4 travel guides we purchased in preparation for our trip. If you want to try something tasty and a with a little "Asheville West Side" culture be sure and go to "Sunny Point Cafe"!! There were so many great places to eat in downtown Asheville that have outdoor seating, we could have just spent a week going from one place to the next. All very different, and wonderful. The Pisgah Inn up on the Blue Ridge Parkway, just over our heads was also a wonderful place to eat after we had had a good day of hiking. If you are there on a Friday night. Check out the drum circle. In fact, if you stay at Mountain Springs, you won't have to worry about missing a thing. Just tell Kate what you're interested in and she will take care of the rest. We did try to pre-plan our trip with the guidebooks, but have to say we didn't do a thing we had on our list. Kate kept us so busy with things; we will just have to add some days to our next trip to do what we outlined in our books. I think one could easily spend two weeks in Asheville and not run out of things to do. And with us being at the cabins, we took time each day to relax from our running about and just chill with a glass of wine in the hammock by the stream. I wonder if they would just rent me a hammock?? In a nutshell, this is the place to go. The spring was great as we did not see allot of travelers and the trails and restaurants were not that busy. Though busy enough for me to see that folks are not freaking out about the economy scare and still traveling. That did my heart good to see. I like the idea of getting free nights for referrals and for coming back. It makes us feel like we count and we like that spoiled feeling they gave us. Here we felt special. I think all of their guest does, as we stayed longer than the bulk of our group and got to meet a few other guests at the bonfire one night. They had all been coming there for some time and felt the same way we did. They even gave us some more good ideas on where to go. When you book you can tell them that the Bradley clan referred you (give me some free time!!!) and know that you are in for a great mountain holiday!

A Big Fan!!
By JBtravelinman, 05/27/09
Our family has a reunion in a different location every year. (10 different families in our group) This year it was my turn to have that tedious task of finding just the right place that everyone would love. Not something I looked forward to, as trying to please everyone is not easy. I know we had allot of complaints a few years ago when my sister had to find a place. Well, I found the place I wanted right off, but still took plenty of time and did all my homework, remember all the grief sis got. Mountain Springs was my choice. Hands down. And I am happy to report there was not a complaint in the bunch!! I was the man of the day!!! This quite little spot with just 13 or 14 cabins is tucked back in a little mountain cove just a few miles from Asheville. We found it easy (especially with the help of the staff) to get from out little hid-a-way to great restaurants, The Biltmore, Chimney Rock, The Smokies & even to places like Grandfather Mountain were just a short dive away. There were so many places we wanted to see, as a large group and then some places we went just as individual families. I don't think we could have found a more centrally located place to stay. Some cabins were small, which worked out well for the singles in our family. They had a few "romantic" adult only cabins where a few could feel like they were getting a second honeymoon when not with the group. I loved the larger cabins on the stream (where my clan stayed). We had a great recreation area to get in some football, volleyball and Frisbee. The kids had a fun playground and fort for playing. It was close enough that they were on their own and still we could keep an eye on them. The staff organized a "cocktail" hour for just the adults at the stream with a wonderful bonfire & set up a night hike for the children including a cookout so we could have some time to kick back & visit without having to worry about where the kids were or what they were in to. That was absolutely wonderful! & the kids talked about their outing for days!! Most of us are "city folk" so our kids thought this to be quite the adventure to go hiking at night and eat by fire light. The place was fantastic!!! We never met anyone who fit the description in one of the reviews. The property owner, Katie, made sure our every want or wish was met. From tickets to the Biltmore to organizing activities for the kids. She has a small (very) staff that were just as helpful and very friendly. our cabin was as clean as could be and very nicely furnished. A dishwasher would have been nice, but that was probably the only thing missing. We had well furnished kitchens, comfy beds, warm fires at night (and that oh so wonderful sound of the stream to lull us to sleep) and beautiful grounds to roam in the day. They were just putting in the flower gardens when we came, so any of you that go later in the season will get to enjoy that. On our last night, Katie had our cookout catered and it was the best "last night" we have ever had. We all discussed it and decided to come here again next year! Takes the burden off cousin Sam. LOL! We already know what we are getting and even with a 5 night stay this time, there is so much more we want to see in the area. Asheville is an amazing area. So there you have it. Our perfect family reunion! Hope this makes things a little easier for those of you who have the task of finding a place that the whole family will like. Tell them Jason B sent you. (They give free nights for referrals and guest who are returning!! Get us some free time for next reunion!!:)

MAKE YOU BRIDE HAPPY!!
By Jakes, 02/06/09
Great place for honeymoon even in winter!! We had the type of time we had hoped for, so we could return yearly and celebrate our anniversary … The grounds were well maintained and we had everything we needed to enjoy our weeklong stay. The beautiful stream simply awed us. We could sit on the porch with our coffee and listen to the water and birds, even at this time of year. We have friends who stayed other places (cabins) in the area and no one else had a stream near them. I could recommend this place for both honeymooner’s and families, because they keep them separated from each other. I can’t wait to share this little piece of mountain heaven with our kids. (when we have them)

Peace on Earth
By Carley, 01/05/08
We just happened upon this well hidden little secret just outside of Asheville, NC while take a spur of the moment “run away from home” trip. Mom kept the kids and we were just going to try and find a little romantic hideaway for ourselves after being over a year without time away from work and family. We stopped at the Chamber of Commerce in Asheville and they were nice enough to tell us all about this little hideaway, and even called and found they had just had a cancellation and could give is at least 3 of the 4 nights we were hoping to find. They had 50 or 60 acres of shear heaven on Earth! On 10 or 15 cabins. All different in size and design. Ours overlooked a beautiful mountain stream where we spent many hours laying in the hammock and just talking like we hadn’t had time to do in such a long time. There were flowers and bird feeders everywhere. And even though the place was booked, we never felt like we didn’t have our privacy. Katie, the woman in the office was so sweet and went out of her way to make everything right for us. Dinner reservations with a sunset terrace, great hiking trips and even arrange for us to have a streamside massage. I can’t say enough good things about it. If I had one thing I would complain about it would have to be we would like to have stayed longer and they just could not fit us in. You can be sure we will go back often. It was just what we needed. 2 of our friends have been since then and they also agreed that it was a wonderful couples retreat, though they plan to go back and take the children. Who knows? We may all just go back as a group. They offer babysitting there so we could still get some adult outings in. By all means, go find this little place!

Country Charm at its best
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/08/07
Recently, my husband and I stayed at Mountain Springs Cabins in Asheville, NC. I called the last minute on Sunday, and talked to the owner who rented me a cottage and told me to come in at 1:00 P.M. Even though she doesn't work on Sunday she went out of her way to leave the door unlocked for us. Having lived in a small town my whole life and used to this kind of trust, it was refreshing to find it elsewhere. The cottage reminded me of a dollhouse. It was furnished with antiques and small details that made me feel at home right from the start and was spic and span. As we rocked on the front porch in the rocking chairs, we forgot we'd ever had any worries. We enjoyed out stay so much, we are planning another one in a few weeks. Glenda & Adrian Barrett

What the doctor ordered!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/06/07
You can't help but to feel special here. An overall "escape" atmosphere. The brook behind you, and the quietness of the property allows you to feel relaxed. The special decor of the cabins gives you the feeling of a second home, or staying at a friends mountain cabin. It is obvious the owner cares about the property and the people who visit. You'll want to return often.

Beautiful setting - Horrible Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/04/07
We were two families of 4 that stayed in two cabins at Mountain Springs. We were a little put off prior to arrival by the 5 page instruction sheet we received via email, but were hoping that in person the staff would be curteous and helpful. Wrong Wrong Wrong! The instruction sheet was duplicated upon arrival in the "Welcome Packet". The whole thing is peppered with warnings and advisories of how much can and will be charged to your account if the rules are not followed precisely. I appreciate that they may have been burned in the past, but this assumption of guilt was too much! It was certainly not welcoming. One of our cabins was FULL of cobwebs and spider webs and smelled of dust, their reaction - the cabins are clean, the cobwebs must have occured overnight. The staff were neither curteous nor helpful and preferred to refer our verbal questions on check-in to the info sheets we had received. It is clear that they are not building on return visitors and just hoping others fall in for the first time. If you read these reviews - do yourself a favor and stay in a motel - it's cleaner, cheaper and the staff is actually helpful!

Sloppy, Unprofessional & Rude
By lesliem, 04/16/07
For bad customer service consider Mountain Springs Cabins & Chalets (Emma's Cove Rd, Asheville, NC). My family (with 2 young children) had a reservation for 5 days from 4/2/07 – 4/7/07, which I had changed from earlier dates of 3/31 – 4/5. Because of a computer glitch or human error, our change in reservation didn’t show up on their computer. Despite showing them their own written confirmation of the change, they refused to honor our reservation. Upon discovering the discrepancy, the proprietor was immediately foul-mouthed, without any consideration that the mistake might be hers. This despite the fact that her computer was down, so she had no way of checking. A half hour later she apologized and offered us an upgrade on the cabin we had reserved. Three days later, seemingly very distressed over losing money, she recanted her generosity and accused me of “doctoring” the reservation’s written confirmation! She demanded we leave or pay more money for the cabin we had already paid for. Both sides called a sheriff’s officer in, who told us that Mountain Springs Cabins is essentially a hotel, and therefore, despite evidence of it’s breach of contract, we had no landlord/tenant legal recourse. Thus the proprieter had a right to kick us off of her property, and my only recourse was a civil suit. Throughout our experience, Mountain Spring’s reservation system and check-in procedures were sloppy and unprofessional. For example, the proprietor claimed that they “never take reservation change requests over the phone”. However, they did in our case, and never told us of their policy when we were booking the cabin. Another example: When we arrived, despite introducing myself, the proprietor assumed we were a different family and sent us off down the road to the wrong cabin. When she realized her mistake, she was immediately rude to us, apparently because she had expected our arrival 2 days earlier due to her sloppy reservation system. Facilities: The creek on the property is nice and the cabins small but quaint, although poorly maintained. The gas fire place in our cabin never worked, and the toilet over-flowed. Asheville has dozens of cabin resorts – have a relaxing vacation and stay away from Mountain Springs!

a throw back to simpler times
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/20/05
The grounds were exquisite, decorated beautifully. Such charm everywhere you looked. If you needed it on the property, it was there. The only thing we would do next time is rent a cabin further into the resort (we were in Cabin #1) so that we couldn't hear the hwy traffic, which was faint but was still noticeable, and so we couldn't be awakened by the rooster in the farm next door at 4am, crowing every 7 seconds and when you're sleeping with your windows open that's LOUD! Plus the kitchen needs more cookware, service pieces, stocked in it. We needed, more than once while there, casserole dishes to bake in etc. and there were none.
