Exploring the Deep South

WELL WORTH IT..
I very much enjoyed my one night there in late 2002. I had a small room on the "girls wing" and found the tour very educational,
and fun. Definately different than other tours I did. A history worth learning.
Make sure you arrive early enough in the afternoon to settle in so you will have time to amble about the home at your leisure, in the evening with the other guests, and enjoy the complimentary sherry. In 2002 this Open House Time stopped at 10pm. I missed it since I arrived so late and did not realize this golden opportunity had limits.
I was startled by the starkness driving up to this Plantation but other antibellum homes either are much smaller to tour or do not accommodate overnight guests. After a hole day of touring these type homes I was very well pleased with my experience at Nottoway. I did my tour the next day.
The dining was excellant and the wait staff did not treat me at all like a "left over" when arriving as late as I had that evening.
Altho it is isolated from other amenities it is only about a 1/2 hr drive to New Orleans and I find this tolerable. The uniqueness was well worth it.
