Poor Service at Budget Host Bedford
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/22/09
We arrived in Bedford about 1:30 in the afternoon and found the motel with no problem. There were signs posted at the off ramp of the PA Turnpike showing what way to turn for the motels in the area. We checked in, after some confusion about the room rate that was stated in the Expedia Confirmation paperwork I presented. Having been given 1 room key, I asked for a second for my wife and they had to search for the second key for her. We were told where the room was and we went in and started to unpack. My wife went into the small bathroom, and came out and told me that the towels and the bathroom floor towel were wet, like they had been used and not changed from the last guest(s). I called the front desk and let them know about the towels and in a few minutes one of the housekeepers came up and brought clean dry towels, toilet paper, a box of tissues, and plastic cups, and basicaly serviced the room while we were in there unpacking.
Saturday morning we went down to the office for the free breakfast, what we found were two types of dry cereal, (both stale), no bowls, coffee, 2% milk, a small pitcher of some sort of fruit juice, a toaster, and plastic bin of sliced bread and bagles. We went accross the street to a fast food restaurant and had breakfast there. We returned to our room and saw one of the housekeepers outside, we said that we were going out for the day and that they could go in and do what they needed to do. We returned early in the evening with some friends that we had met up with during the day, we walked in and fount that the room had not been cleaned, bed not made, used towels had not replaced and the bathroom had not been cleaned, and the trash cans had not been emptied, and the mini fridge had the door standing wide open. I called the front desk and informed the clerk that the room had not been serviced, about 10 minutes later the same housekeeper we had seen in the morning was there and wanting to come in and clean, one of the ladies was in the bathroom, so I just took the clean towels from housekeeping and said I'd place the dirty towles outside the linen room door, I was just coming back in the room when I was handed the towles from inside the bathroom by my wife and I gave them to the staff who was in the linen room, next door to our room.
Sunday morning, we skipped the free motel breakfast as we had seen what it was Saturday morning, went to a Denny;s down the road and had a great breakfast, and had 10% deducted from our bill as we were dressed in Civil War uniforms for an event down the road we were doing at Old Bedford Village. We returned back to the motel, packed our bags and checked out. While going through the check out paperwork, I was asked by the desk clerk (a new one that we hadn't seen all weekend) if we had enjoyed our stay, I told him about the problems with the housekeeping and how we found the breakfast, and his only reply was "Oh, OK, thank you very much, and come back and see us again."
All in all, the room was ok, the bathroom is very small with no ventilation, no handicapped facilites other than a single handicapped parking space, poor housekeeping service. The next time we go up to Bedford, I will find another motel to stay at, as this one was a bit of a dissapointment.
