I'd Pass On It

I go for weekend trips a lot to the Wells area of Maine. In fact, I am there about 1/3 the weekends out of the year.
My preferred hotel was booked this particular weekend, so I made reservations here.
I booked the reservations a week in advance. I called the day of to confirm and they told me they were out of King Sized rooms like I had reserved. This was convenient for them since discounted rate I was quoted for the king room was now being asked for double bed rooms.
I complained even going so far as the corporate number for Super 8. Most any other hotel chain would have let me stay for free. They instead gave me a "discount". This actually came out to be what the rate was for the double room when I reserved. I'm not stupid.
I got inside the room, the toilet didn't work. The moldy bathroom was filthy. I was given two hand towels and one very old, splintering, brittle, piece of soap. No cups, no extras. Only one light in the room worked and the output from the A/C stunk like mold. I use the term A/C loosely as I had it on it's highest setting and it barely could keep the room at 85 degrees in August. It would turn off every 10 minutes or so with a bang then it would be dead silent. Except for the slamming of doors in the hallway. The A/C unit was covered in thick furry dust like the staff couldn't even be bothered to vaccum it off. There was sticky red stains all over the furniture, dressers, television, walls, etc like someone had sprayed soda or something all over the room.
Outside, the grounds were a mess with crumbling plastic latticework around some kind of above-ground septic system falling apart in the middle of the parking lot.
The staff didn't seem to care less, and for that matter, neither did Super 8 corporate. I wrote them an email and sent a letter to them, and I received a "oh, that's too bad. Keep staying at our motels" response.
An absolute sh!thole from top to bottom.
As a former preferred Super 8 cardholder, I can tell you I wouldn't bother with this chain again. Days Inn, Best Western, Holiday Inn, etc have guarantees.
