Outrigger On The Lagoon Fiji, Singatoka

I read the other reviews and feel bad for everyone that was dissatisfied. We arrived from Canada and were given a room to freshen up in while a Lagoon wing room was readied for us. They were very accomodating and the service was exceptional. We attended a coctail party at the Bebe salon and it was acknowleged that the resort had worked through some tough times and all criticisms were being taken to heart. That being said, the staff were second to none and I understand they are constantly training to keep service at that level. I'm a big guy and was posatively tickled that one of the porters (Alaijiah) offered to take me and my wife shopping in Sigatoka, on his day off! We had some special photocopying to do and the office staff looked after us, no problem. We stayed for 4 days so were able to try all the restaurants and the only problem we had was a missplaced appitizer at the Sundowner. We had our breakfasts included and the buffet was excellent! I was spoiled rotten with cappacinos and the staff had them coming as soon as we were seated. There was some repair work being done on one of the covered walkways but that was all. It is a resort geared to families but I was told an 'adults only' pool was in the works, which my wife and I would have preferred. I got a real kick out of the front gate's BULA, BULA and couldn't stop myself from saying it to my relatives in Adelaide. It really caught on and BULA was the last thing they said to us when we boarded the plane back to Canada. If it is too far to walk, the porters are more than happy to take you wherever you want in one of their golf carts. You can't get bored at this resort unless you sit on your hands and wait for everything to come to you. There are many websites that offer tips as to where to go and what to do, which is why I said we didn't stay long enough. Like any trip, do the research before you leave and you will get that much more out of it. Don't let a bad incident get to you and spoil the holiday. I have never been to Fiji and this stay definitely set me up for a return visit! I'll just make sure they don't have any construction in progress and the weather forecast is good. The rest is a cake walk in paradise!

Firstly I would like to say that I wrote this same opinion on this hotel on another travel site. The management response was totally abhorrent, claiming that I was being dishonest and mischievous which I find totally insulting! The whole point of reviews are to inform other traveller's of your own experience. To be called dishonest is downright rude! Accommodation : We had two and a half weeks in Fiji and after much debate, thought we would forego Denarau and spend 5 nights at the Outrigger. Our arrival was a mess, we had booked a king with pullout sofa and were taken to a room with two doubles. After traipsing back up to the reception area, where the person who booked us in (apparently the duty manager) took another hour to take us to our new room, which turned out to be already occupied! Another half hour later, our new room. For a five star hotel, the room is not as big as I expected and the flights of stairs to get to them a bit daunting - lucky we could use the lift, when it was working! The first night was a disaster, as we had the sound of water running down the middle of the wall, which kept me awake all night, and even though the next morning, we requested to be moved, this didn't happen until 7pm that night after repeated requests and finally the Talai stepping in to haste the process. This room was located right near the big air conditioning system which runs the resort, luckily we couldn't hear it inside our room. The room itself though smelt of very bad body odour after it was cleaned by the maid every day. I so sick of moving though that I put up with it for the remaining holiday even though the smell still lingers in my nostrils yuk ! Food: I found the food to be very ordinary and not much of a selection. I was craving for steak however despite three restaurants, none to be found on a dinner menu. One order for satay chicken which was so un-extraordinary you couldn't even tell it was so satay, was extremely disappointing! The breakfast buffet and evening theme buffet was well catered. I'm glad we didn't include meals with our stay. Resort: is very large and takes an amazing long time to get from hotel rooms to the main pool area. There was construction happening on a new bar & grill near the pool so our stay was an extremely frustrating experience when trying to relax by the pool to the sound of hammers and power tools - this was the last straw for me and complete with everything else, ensures that I would never recommend this resort to anyone. Extras: there's a laundry for guest but to buy washing powder, you have to buy a whole 500g packet just to do one load - nice one - NOT! How about separating the packet into usable sachets? Beach: mostly low tide so up to ankle depth, coral sand so not very enjoyable, combined with the noise of the construction, hmm going to the Whitsundays next time! The only positive was that my 11year old daughter enjoyed the kids club as there were lots to do and also the meals - in fact I would have preferred the kids menu to the adults any day.

We purchased our package for 4 adults through Costco Travel (which I would Highly recommend). Our 1st 3 nights were to be at Outrigger. The grounds of the resort were beautiful. The staff was nice, but it felt very "forced" if you will, but they were all wearing smiles. There was construction going on, unfortunately you could not escape it, next to pool and ocean, but we understand the need for renovations. There was just a lot of hammering and sawing while we were trying to enjoy a quiet relaxing beverage! This is also not the place to go if you aren't into having lots of children around. Very family oriented which is great for some, but not what we children-less individuals want. The worst thing that happened...$1000 American dollars was missing from one wallet and $40 American dollars was missing from another wallet both in the same room. While some say it is our fault because we did not lock up our wallets in the safe, we believed that we were in Fiji where everyone was believed to be so nice and welcoming, we were wrong. While we didn't leave our money just lying out, it was in our wallets, in our purses and upon our day to leave we counted the money and found it to be missing.....So word to the wise if you are going to this resort LOCK UP YOUR BELONGINGS! It really hurts to give 'cleanliness" 5 stars, when the maid was the only one to enter our room from the "key audit" and we have money missing.

This resort was nice and relaxing and the staff were all friendly. The day to day expenses (food, drink, etc.) were very expensive at the Outrigger. The spa located just up the hill from the hotel was wonderful and defintely worth the cost, if you truly enjoy a pampering! If you spend enough time combing the beach for shells, you might accidently see a cow as well! No joke, my cousin and I were walking along the beach just before dusk and this cow just strolls right on by. It was worth taking a picture of and I will always remember it!!

I loved everything about the Outrigger that is why I returned for a 2nd time. Moreen & her team are so obliging & helpful, the welcoming you receive is warm & friendly, they make you feel special as if you were family, for me being a returnee it was like coming home, most of the staff remembered me from last year which was lovely. The food & dining is exceptional, the buffet breakfast is unbelievable the choice of variety is amazing. The rooms are clean, tidy & spacious (we had interconnecting), maid service terrific, shopping wonderful, the pool is huge & beautifully clean and the champagne & canapes delivered to your room each evening by your Talai Butler was a special treat. We sang & danced the nights away at the Vakavanua Lounge Bar, had a couple of heavenly doses of pampering up on the hill at the Bebe Spa (this is a must), the view from this place is breathtaking. I would recommend Yvette & Romina as your beautician experts, then go up & visit the friendly staff at the Kalokalo Bar for a drink or high tea, you will not be disappointed. This resort is a must stay when visiting Fiji, it has a traditional feel about it, the lush tropical & tranquil surroundings truly depicts the beauty of this country & the Fijian people, who are out on their own!!!

First of all when we me and my baby first got there the view was absolutely magnificent... the staff were very friendly... massive pool and quite a few activities for a resort though i still found myself a bit bored after just 2 days. The best activity I thought was snorkelling when they allowed it or just swimming around out there seeing a million different types of fish and even one snake! Not sure if it was poisonous though... Prices were ridiculously marked up compared to outside and I found the hyped IVI restaurant to serve pretty mediocre fare... we ate down the beach most of the times and 'le cafe' i felt had the character that the bars inside lacked... the champagne and canapes in our deluxe ocean view rooms were complimentary but not that great... also worth mentioning is that it is a very touristy place... we wouldn't say we were harassed but we were certainly targeted by taxi drivers and other service providers once we were outside of the hotel. Also worth mentioning is that on my final night I was mauled by bed bugs!!!

I have been to Fiji many times, and have stayed at many differant hotels. This one hits then spot. The pool is huge, staff are friendly and the facilitys are great. The Fijian people are so nice and make your stay a good one. Sigatoka is a facinating place and well worth a visit. It's a must go.

This place was simply brilliant and a must go. Its service is out of the world and rooms are great, most have amazing views. Loved the pool and golf driving range + putting and chipping green. Sigatoka is a great Fijian experiance as well and I advise you to spend a day there.

Outrigger a great family resort run by very friendly fijian people.A fantastic location great pool for all the family the gardens are immaculate in my opinion a true 5 star resort.Best time to go would be out of australian school holidays as resort can get very busy only a 3hour flight from brisbane and just over an hour from nadi airport makes it great place to holiday.If you think prices of food etc..are to expensive walk down to beach and turn right walk along sand and will find some local restaurants/bars my favorite was Le Cafe great cheap food and beer a lot cheaper than outrigger but that is a personal choice.Summing up our family holiday at the outrigger was truely 5 star luxury P.S. I forgot to mention the kids club a great idea which we used daily and 4 year daughter loved it.BULA BULA

I reside in brisbane and regularly travel overseas for work. This time, travelling with my Fiance, had a magnificant week at the Outrigger. It is funny, reading some of the review, i guess majority of feedback on anything tends to be negative, so i just wanted to even it out. Holidays are what you make of it, the Outrigger on the Coral Coast was just perfect for a tropical getaway. We stayed in a Bure on the beach - the Ocean breeze fklowing through as the sun sets over the horizon, drinking the complimentary champas & canapes created a whole new meaning of Oasis. The food was really good, apparently a new exec chef was hired following feedback on the meals. The prices are what you would expect of a 5 star resort. Fijian people are just wonderful and will help in any way possible to make your stay..pleasant and enjoyable.
