Hotel review and tips on staying there
At the Airport in Cairo
Cairo Airport Shuttle Company when u clear baggage claim and enter the arrivals hall. A trip to the Cairo Sheraton will cost 60 Egyptian pounds plus 6 Egyptian pounds tax = 66EP. This is NOT per person, its for the van and driver so its really cheap (you will find that transport is very cheap when u explore Cairo).
At the Cairo Sheraton
Food:
If breakfast isnt included in you room rate, youll be advised to have breakfast at either Tea Garden or Arrous El Nile (restaurants within the hotel) these buffet breakfasts are overpriced so its better and cheaper to grab coffee and pastries at Caf Complet (another restaurant in the hotel) on the ground floor of the Nefertiti Tower. The food at the Al Adin restaurant is overpriced and you get tiny portions. Food at La Mamma isnt bad, but youd probably enjoy take-out more.
Laundry:
Room service laundry is overpriced. There is another laundry service at the ground floor entrance in the Nefertiti Tower (at the entrance where Caf Complet is). They do the hotel laundry anyway, but the prices are a third of what room service will charge.
Minibar:
Dont bother with the minibar - a 500ml bottle of water costs 6EP and a can of soda will cost the same. If you walk down the road, on the way to the Four Seasons First Mall, theres a side road with two small shops selling drinks, chips, etc. A 1.5 litre bottle of water over there will cost you 2EP and a can of soda will cost 1.75EP. These shops are one of the few places that will sell Mountain Dew and Crme Soda funnily enough - very few places in Egypt have heard of Mountain Dew and Crme Soda (unfortunately, the crme soda just aint the same as it is in SA, it tastes very vanilla). There are also more little shops close to McDonalds or Noura Bazaar with the same prices.
Concierge:
Very helpful, but if we wanted to tour Cairo then they wouldve directed us to the travel agency within the hotel where the tours were very expensive do NOT use the travel agency. If you want a tour guide, ask the Cairo Airport Shuttle Company to set you up with one.
Beauty salon:
Dont bother going there overpriced and extremely poor quality of service.
Restaurants and shops
Four Seasons First Mall:
It is down the road from the Sheraton, about 10-15 minutes walking distance (a taxi there will cost 10EP). You will be able to find shops selling genuine Nike shoes and clothing, Guess accessories and high-end watches at Time Trade at this mall (most other malls have a lot of fake products).
McDonalds:
Ask the doorman at the ground floor entrance of the Nefertiti Tower (outside caf complet) to direct you to McDonalds, its on the same road as the Faisal Islamic Bank of Cairo (back road, not the front one) and its a 10-15 minute walk.
Noura bazaar:
Its on the same road as the Faisal Islamic Bank of Cairo (front road, not the back one) and its a 5-10 minute walk. This shop sells perfumes and papyrus at reasonable prices, but the guy there tends to be a bit pushy.
KFC and Pizza Hut:
Steps away from the Four Seasons First Mall. Theres also another Pizza Hut near the McDonalds.
Radioshack:
Youll pass this electronics shops while walking to the Four Seasons First Mall. Prices arent too bad although I never actually bought anything there.
Other shopping centres
Youll have to take a taxi to Arkadia Mall, Ramses Hilton and Khan el Khalili.
