Golden Tulip Golden Bay Beach Hotel, Larnaca

Cyprus is a lovely country and generally has a high standard of hotels, however the Golden Bay is not at all of a high standard. Rooms are falling apart, towels has holes on them, there was absolutely nothing to differentiate it as a 5 star hotel. The staff were uncaring and unprofessional and the management non existent. Stay away from this hotel, the Sandy Beach hotel next door is much nicer and should be 5 stars!!!

I loved the grand suite-the jacuzzi was great! It was my husband's birthday and they brought us a cake and a champagne-for free! They were very friendly. We ordered food and it was delicious. Very good prices. I loved the breakfast. We had a wonderful sea view! Everything was very clean. Very good room service!

My husband and I have only just come back home from a wonderful holiday in Larnaca, Cyprus. As we both hate packages and group holidays, we had decided to book our own holiday through the Internet. That's where we found the Golden Tulip Golden Bay Hotel. We loved their website and so we thought we'd give it a try. What we actually experienced once there surpassed our expectations. Upon arrival, we proceeded to the reception for check in. It was terribly busy and we were prepared to queue but we were soon greeted by a friendly young lady who welcomed us and kindly showed us to the lobby area explaining us that she would do all the check in procedure for us while we were enjoying a welcome drink offered by the hotel. We chose to sit at the terrace and enjoyed our drinks and the splendind view to an amazingly blue sea. A few minutes later, Irini, the friendly young lady of the reception came back with our key cards. She said our rooms were ready and our luggage had already been carried there. I started to feel like a queen in a dream palace... Our room was spacious and very comfortable,elegantly decorated and equipped with all modern facilities, even private internet connection. We also loved the food atLes Etoils restaurant but we also enjoyed cool evenings at the Ouzeri where we had a first taste of the Greek cuisine and live Greek music. Last but not least, we were impressed by the friendly attitude of the staff in all departments and their willingness to make our stay even more pleasant. But most importantly, when we had a problem with the air conditioning in our room - it wasn't working- a technician was sent to our room immediately and fixed the problem. It's the best holiday we've had in years. A golden experience at a great classy hotel. We'll certainly come back to The Golden Bay Hotel !

Five stars hotel! Once we arrived this hotel, we asked the taxi if this is the golden bay beach hotel or not. The entrance looked like an elementary school entrance, the lobby was too small, The room was an old fashion and bad designed, which didn’t help the room servers to place the food in a suitable place, the bed was not comforting, the food was not well cooked, we couldn’t sleep because of the noise in the hotel’s wedding hall, lot of items were missing in the bathroom such as hair conditioners, and there were no free offers such as mineral water. Don’t dream of finding what you are looking for in a messy hotel like this.

I have been going to Larnaca for the past 15 years and have stayed in numerous hotels, but we have never stayed at the Golden Bay as we thought due to it being a 5* Hotel it would be out of our price range. This year we decided to give ourselves a treat and the pay the extra for staying in the Golden Bay. Once we reached the hotel the reception staff seemed helpful and had no problems there. As i had a quick look around while checking in, the hotel looked almost bland and had no character, their centrepiece was a bright orange sofa in the strangest shape I have ever seen!!! Eventually we got to our room, the air conditioning was leaking in the bathroom so we asked to be moved....they moved us to another room, once in me and my partner could not understand what made this room part of a 5* hotel it was small, dated decor, very old facilities, the ugliest bathroom suite and to top that all off the had given us 2 single beds rather than the double that was requested!!! I rushed downstairs to ask why there was 2 single beds rather than a double, the receptionist had no real reply and simply said I don’t know why and so we took it as it was. While in the room we decided to order room service, as we were both very hungry. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers with chips, the food came to the room after 20 minutes as we sat down to eat, being a 5* we would have expected freshly cooked food, the burger was cooked from frozen and was still uncooked in the middle and the chips were still frozen! We were both very disappointed but thought not to complain as we were both exhausted and thought tomorrow would be a better day. The following day we went down for breakfast, again I was expecting quality food but was disappointed, the food was not cooked well and tasted horrible, it was like this everyday. The staff would argue amongst themselves and have no respect for the guests. The room cleaners would not clean the room until 2pm and found it amusing to shout down the corridor to each other at 9am.!!!!!! The pool was dirty and the sun beds looked like tired old mats that i dreaded to lie on, the beach towels were covered in bleach and some had big holes in them.. The food at lunch was a mixture of breakfast left overs that was stuffed into the club sandwich and everything else that was on the menu also looked liked breakfast. Overall a very disappointing experience, this hotel is not fit to hold 5* and I ask for it to be revoked and dropped to a 3* which is still too high. Never again. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL!!!! AND IF YOU DO DONT EAT THE FOOD!!

We paid top dollar to stay at the Golden Bay Hotel through Cyprus airlines and quite frankly there are some Holiday Inns (Manila for example) that would put this hotel to shame. We had attempted to contact the Golden Bay by email several days before to ensure a smooth arrival. They did not bother responding. We were put on the fifth floor on one side of the hotel. The room décor (and the hotel) were barely recognizable from the beautiful Internet pictures. The room was to a very low standard, bluish, grubby, and well used. The carpet was badly stained, as was the yellowed ceiling and ants marched around the headboard. Despite booking a double room, we ended up with two single beds pushed together with single linen and no effort to make them double! One bed later collapsed, and was replaced with a base that was disgustingly stained, the air conditioning was inefficient and leaked in the bathroom, and the cable TV channels were rudimentary with no entertainment for our daughter except for the unhindered access to the pornography channels. The Hotel restaurants were pitifully understaffed which was typically apparent at breakfast and special nights. The hotel parking is not restricted to Hotel Guests only, and it is quite likely you will have to park your hire car on the street at the weekends or nightly events. Locals have unfettered access to the Hotel facilities and the narrow strip of private beach, and they make every use of this opportunity by bringing their own sandwiches (wise move) grabbing your reserved sun bed, and leaping into the hotel pool which becomes pretty murky and “busy” to put it mildly. I doubt the hotel derives little income from these “visitors”. The weekend’s entertainment of competing late night amplified car music systems parked on the beach directly beside the hotel should prove to be an “enjoyable” distraction when you get tired of watching CNN or BBC. The only thing this Hotel has going for it, is the staff and the food. But since Cypriots are renowned for their hospitality, you won’t have difficulty finding these at any other establishment. I would suggest you think very carefully before booking into this hotel. Five (5) Star it is not!

This is my sixth visit to Cyprus (I travel a lot, so I tried many hotels in many countries). I was very happy with Grecian Bay in Larnaca, quite happy in Pafos Coral Beach, but this time I stay in Larnaca, Golden Bay 5* hotel. That was the wrong move... On checkin they requested my credit card and told that they will block a "security deposit". Just in case. If I escape without paying my bills. I tried to argue (I fully prepaid my stay, there was no information on security deposit). Ok, I agreed to pay the deposit (they asked for CYP100 (US$220)). Later I found that they blocked twice more!! They blocked $450 on my credit card! This is a plain fraud! I WILL NEVER stay in this hotel, NEVER! Furthemore, airconditioning is really poor, it is too hot in the room. I contacted reception but they failed to do anything about it (they simply save electricity). The beach is also much worse than in Agia Napa. Even worse, Golden Bay is about 10 kilometers from Larnaca, so if you are looking for any night life you have to hire taxi... Try Grecian Bay - much better value for the same money!!!

This hotel is wonderful with plenty of things to do! Ive been coming here with family for the whole 18 yrs of my life! No i still dont find it boring. Theres a mini healthspa in the hotel that cater in beauty skincare hair excersise a sauner and a jacuzzi, (the gym and jacuzzi you could use for free) Also a little shop with nice people working there! selling magazines in english but quite pricey so you could read if u got bored, books, swimwear inflatable pooltoys so yea a good selection! After the buffet breakfast, it was straight down to the pool and beach the pool was large and excellently designed. There was always pool staff cleaning and hoovering the pool EVERY morning (indoor pool too)On the pool floor, there was a resteraunt with a lunch buffet and menu. The pool bar was excellent too and the staff where very sociable and happy people. A spacious room on the first floor that catered for a family upto 4 people. There were special suites aswell as standard and single rooms!Nice landscaping everywhere! Most nights the Les Etoile had entertainment *cypriot nights and greek nights Buffet style food of cyprus foods Excellent there are many other resteraunts in the hotel my favourite is the Ouzeri.Also an olde english pub below reception with sky.If you are celebrating your birthday there they can arrange suprise song of happy birthday where u get a bottle of bubbley and a cake(it can be embarissing for some people though i wasnt bothered) They also alternate each week a wine/cocktail tasting hourwhere u can sample ( ;) ) the drinks for free with cheese n cocktail bites also. Its excellent there and i reccomend it for families and luxury holidays!!
